Look at this post by LEGO employee Swiftone over on BZP.
I've gotten a couple of PMs about this set, so I'll address the question here.

The set is real. It was designed as a LEGO Legends remake of a Classic Castle item, though, so it is not part of the 2006 Knights' Kingdom story (though I'll bet you guys could come up with a good explanation for how it'd fit). I believe the KK logo was included on the packaging so that it could be sold on the shelves with other Knights items in Japan; my understanding is that elsewhere it'll be a web/LEGO Store exclusive.

That's about all I can tell you about it right now!

I was about to post that. I take what I said back :-D

Wow, so TLC does take a leap forward on violence with this torture chamber *y*

But next time do torture something else than a skellie :-| !!

*yoda*

It could be a prisoner that was so deprived of food that it looks like a skelliton.

He he !! Fun explanation but I really doubt it ;-)

I think its a weird explenation that can be paralleled to the Bat Guns: torturing a skellie is not "violence" per se because the skellie is already dead ;-) Its like the bat guns in a way, its not "violence" because its Batman (comic book hero, imaginary town...).

*yoda*

Okay, so it is real. It doesn't look like a bad set--I'd actually pick one up as quick as I could! But I sincerely hope that what we see isn't really the remake of a classic set. "Legends" aren't "redesigns."

He's not torturing anyone! That's really just a sculpter, who's making a sculpture of a skelton! Yeah... that's it. See, no violence.

:-P

the torture bench for a minifig will be significantly different from the current one for a skeleton. this is because a minifig's arms cannot rotate to the position of the current design.

let's be honest here. the torture bench looks like a good mock up of one that may have exist during that era. but torture benches are no longer relevant in today's modern society (when was the last time you saw a working one?). so in that sense, i think TLG didnt really "violate" its own socio-doctrine.

Who cares about a torture chamber when you're about to meet this set?

Guau, it's Megablocking awesome that this set is real!!!!

Finally a set that can stand back over the KKII fans!!

And, well, maybe KK is mean to be the prescedent of the Classic Castles?? Maybe there's a connection between the new and "old" ones, just like a kind of Presequel....Dunno, but, oh I'm so happy!! :'-)

Where is gonna be available and how much is it gonna cost? X-D

Yep, thats totally true.

This set is no where near the level of a Legend.

The design looks chaotic in my opinion.

It is better than Morcia but thats about it.

It has way too many pre-fab parts and not enough bricks.

On a positive note, the skeleton being tortured is cool and the red armor looks awesome.

I probably won't be buying this though unless it's on sale for under $50.

This castle is great IMO, it is obviously LEGO's attempt at appeasing the Classic Castle fans.

It has a good minifig count, not many <insert that tiresome argument> peices and a lot of random specialty bits (wagon wheels and I think that 'dog' could be a PONY?!)

Obviously this offering from Lego won't please all CC fans- sometimes it seems only a castle made entirely of 2x1 bricks would - I think this is a BIG step in the right direction. I would much prefer new sets in the older style to straight remakes of old sets.

One happy camper *sweet*

Sorry not a pony (just had a closer look) it does look like a brown dog.

Blast, I'd have prefered a pony... I really really want one... almost had one too, but stupid seller sent it to the wrong address... :-(

I wonder if, maybe, it is a prototype, which would explain all the oddities...

It does seem to have a lot of random 'strange bits' that lego would usually trim from thier sets.

The torture chamber and the furnace/anvil seem to be located in exactly the same spot too. I wonder if it is an alternate or if they havn't decided on the final layout?

Posted
Maybe there are both on each side of an area of those crappy and useless baseplates (the narrower area) ;-)

*yoda*

Yes but note the gate behind in both shots and the anvil in the foreground of the 'torture' shot. Unless they just flipped one of the shots? Can't wait to have a good look at this set

Not to be a kill joy, but torture is alive and well in many parts of the world, most of this board's contributers just happen to inhabit the more free western world.

On a completely different note, I wonder if Lego will start a series of 'themed' spring cleans like this? It still doesn't solve the bley issue, but some people might be glad to have them...

God Bless,

What would please me the most is a well designed set that looks "castle-ish."

It seems like some of these newer sets are thrown together without much thought for the overall design or appearance.

One exception would be Vladek's Dark Fortress which was a pretty good design.

I'll be buying one of those along with Batman's Arkham Asylum sometime soon.

But this set is definitely a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other KK2 sets.

Lego is at least on the right track.

Come on people, when was the last time a picture was posted that actually WAS fake? NEVER! So why would this be.

While I am fairly sure this is a real set now, there have been fake pics out there. I have seen quite a number of fake box art pics. Granted, the vast majority of them aren't trying to pass them off as the real thing, but they could. Here is one example, made up for the Wayne Manor contest.

It would make sense, if that is what it is. Still seems like a strange set to me...I am going to withhold judgement until it is avaliable to buy. It is screaming "prototype pics" to me. But, hey, I've been wrong before.

That's true, however, the difference between these box pictures and the Wayne Manor is that these are fully three dimensional, with everything on the sides that should be there, while the Wayne Manor picture is a flat cover. That is much, much more difficult to do in a photoshop program, and I doubt anyone would waste their time making that just so they can trick a bunch of LEGO fans.

Not saying it applies in this case but it has been done... check some of the old Lugnet april 1st postings, the old grey castle tub was one of my faviourites...

Hey Nathan, thanks for the backup...I'd forgotten about the tub. :-)

I only picked the Wayne Manor one because it is the most recent. Sure the 3D effect is more difficult but its not impossible. In fact, it isn't really that hard, just takes time.

Back on topic, if this set really ends up looking like this, I will definitely buy it...it just seems strange.

This set seems pretty nice, reminds me of King Leo's castle. I like the black smith/torturer thing, haven't seen that in an official Lego castle before. Can't wait to see more of this set. :-)

I've noticed a funny trend. Back in the good old times of classic Castle, Pirates etc. good sets were part of everyday's life, they were in the shops, they were nothing "special" in a sense of availability. Today a set better than average, like this one, is often an exclusive limited issue, sold only online, not everywhere (AFAIK there are a lot of countries to which S@H doesn't deliver stuff, mine included) and so on.
