Anio Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Pete, it looks great ! You use a very good mix between plates, tiles and slopes. Well, I would really appreciate to see how the model is built inside (structure). Cause I think it is the hardest part to build. Quote
cavegod Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Pete, it looks great ! You use a very good mix between plates, tiles and slopes. Well, I would really appreciate to see how the model is built inside (structure). Cause I think it is the hardest part to build. The structure is just bricks and plates, the wings are held with technic lift arms as can be seen in the photo's, the sloped middle sections uses car roof hinge plates. The outer sloped surfaces are held on top by 1x2 hinge brick with 2x2 hinge top plate, and on the bottom by technic connectors and plate modified 2x2 with holes. the angle of the cockpit is made with techinc click hinge. what made this hard is that nearly all of it is built on stud offset, as you can see that the top is 5 studs wide and the bottom is 7 studs wide, plus with the studs built in a lot of directions! Also to get an idea, the 3 sloped areas either side, the bottom of the 65 x 2x2x2 slopes sit on a plated section the full width of the ship, so that would be the starting point. Quote
prateek Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Great update! I love the front of the fuselage, right behind the cockpit Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Nice. The shaping looks good, and the plates are looking better than I expected. Quote

Masked Builder Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Amazing progress! It's definitely looking better! I'm assuming now that you've got one wing done the other will be easy right? Quote
KimT Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Wow this is coming along pretty well cavegod. blogged (again ) Quote

Cpt. Dan Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Wow this keeps getting better and better. I would shell out a lot of money to get one of these if it was on sale. Looks great keep up the great work! Quote

Cpt. Dan Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 or you could spend a lot less and build one youyrself? Yeah, probably a better idea Quote
BrickPerfection Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Looking good! The few studs on the plates don't bother me at all even though I'm more of a tiles fan. I'll keep that in mind. The structure inside will certainly be interesting, but I can understand if you want to keep it for yourself. Are you planning to add an interior too? Should be doable at this size. Also it would look quite interesting! Quote
cavegod Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 i will post a few internal structure shots tomorrow as that will be the last chance for it before it's button'd up so to speak. theres no secret connections it's all simple to be honest. Quote
cavegod Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Ok These are the only internal pictures i will be taking as it's not pretty! Quote
Mr Man Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Looking great so far cavegod, looking very good. I cant see propely but can you fit figs in the back? Quote
cavegod Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 nope no interior, my mocs are for display only. Quote
Masked Builder Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 That's good looking! Now I want one. I wish I had the parts to build one. Quote
cavegod Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 That's good looking! Now I want one. I wish I had the parts to build one. just bricklink them if you need them it's the only way i can build the mocs. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Doesn't look bad. It's all black too, that helps hide the innards. You can fit 'figs in the cockpit, though, right? Quote
cavegod Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 I was not happy with the connection for the sloped sides so i stripped the entire model down and rebuilt it! but now the sides are stronger and i've only gained 1/2 plate width either side, i also rebuilt the internal structure so it's a bit lighter now. just waiting on a bricklink order from the USA and i can get the body wrapped up and finished! Quote
Stardusty Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Improvments you have made are unbelieveable. I can't wait to see finished version. Quote
cavegod Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 yet more rebuilds!! i have now narrowed the sloped sides by 2 studs in total and also changed the connection of the 1x3 brick arches to give a clean look, rebuilt the internal structure and also changed how the wings are hinged (still can't find a way to hold them in the folded position). Brickdoctor Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (still can't find a way to hold them in the folded position). Have you tried gears on the wings connected to screws in the body? Quote
