Stank Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) NO!... Well a little bit... But i don't care. I can't even translate what "nerdy" means in my language. And i, as everyone else here don't care at all! EDIT: The hmpf bad symbol didn't show up. Edited January 27, 2011 by Stank Quote
Legoman Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Very intresting topic. I find many answers very ammusing too. I personally would like to clarify the two words: Nerd, and Nerdy. In all honesty, Playing with Lego over 15 is nerdy - No doubt about it. But I don't believe this makes anybody a Nerd in itself. I'm 16, and would most definately not call myself a nerd, But I openly admit my love for Lego is nerdy. I personally think being a Nerd is more a over-intellectual brain combined with very limited social skills, Which isn't at all related to playing with Lego or not Playing a bit Sport/Music, having friends and being able to have a good time makes whatever other nerdy activity you have as a hobby irrelevant, You don't need fear being a Nerd And I'd go so far as to say some of the better MOCers aren't even being nerdy, they're truely talented artists. BrickPerfection Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Honestly, I don't think Lego should be considered nerdy if model building or stamp collecting isn't. I mean, there are a lot of interesting and exotic hobbies but the only distinction I see is popular vs exotic hobbies. If somebody is a nerd however is a completely different question. Of course AFOLs could be nerds and I'm sure some are, but that doesn't mean we are all nerds (at least I hope so ). And even if, Lego is fun, so who cares. I'm still wondering why would noone consider a guy who only plays football in his free time, has no real friends and no other skills or interests, a nerd? Quote
Aanchir Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I think LEGO may or may not be nerdy depending on how you express your interest in it. For instance, buying sets for display purposes? Not particularly nerdy. Building sets with your kids, or taking them to LEGO-related events and locations? Definitely not nerdy-- LEGO being a quality toy, that's some responsible parenting! But writing up Microsoft Excel spreadsheets of the official LEGO color names and numbers? Unquestionably nerdy. Needless to say, I'm definitely on the nerdier side of the LEGO fandom. Quote
fenrir Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) Lego nerdy? Absolutely not People appriciate it if you say as an adult, I still like Lego. Most people don't dare to say what they realy think, feel or like. I typed nerd in the google images bar. guess what, no bricks in the first hits.... so Lego isn't nerdy enough.
