ApophisV Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Hi all, I'll post all pictures of the 2005 Designer sets and such stuff here... I'l let this topic open, BUT I will take care for it, please NO OFF TOPIC POSTING HERE!!!!! If we guys can't stay on topic, I'll open a second thread for just discussing and lock this one... So consider this as a test... Here we go: 4774
Vader Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 I really like the scorpion it looks like a nicely put together set :) , however i dont care for the blizzard blaster it looks like its just been thrown together. :(
ApophisV Posted December 3, 2004 Author Posted December 3, 2004 Yes, I thought the same.... The mecha looks like it was made from a VERY restricted amount of parts instead of using the whole potential of Lego.... :/ BUT it got some cool parts, like 4 trans orange bars (from the Pod Racer sets) and these other dark bars, are they trans grey???? Or dark blue?? AND it comes with the new flags we've already seen at Anakin's new Fighter, this time in black I'd say (look at the left "arm" thing...)
Vader Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Yes i like the new color parts but i dont think ill be getting the blaster unless of course i find it on sale ;)
Orlego Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 I have no idea where Lego is going with Alpha Team. This theme has changed so much, it is almost a new theme. :/
Vader Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Its changed alot since the first sets and IMO not for the better :(
sam89 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 The Scorpion one looks quite cool (here's some new pics of it). I do think the Blizzard Blaster looks quite cool, although it looks like a MOC made out of the other Alpha Team sets. I do like the transformed mode though. I doubt I'll get either of them (too much other stuff to get) but they're quite cool :)
Vader Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Thanks for the new pics sam, I like the new drone fig much better than the old ones.
David85 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 I was just about to look for the newer pictures, but then I noticed that someone deleted the topic for no reason. Where did this person buy the sets?
jonfett Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 Most of you have mentioned change in the Alpha team sets, I agree. Before they were minifig sets with small viechles and based around secret operations and such, now they are more like transformers and large.. well, Mecha things. Change is good, but these seemed to have changed too much, IMO. Jon.
Vader Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 What i liked about the first alpha sets was the fact that they looked like a bomb squad/ special crimes unit etc and they fitted into a city. But then they took them under the sea which wasnt to bad but all this transforming business is just too much IMO.
David85 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 I loved the fact that they were a spy/cop thing with Sci-Fi added, but the underwater sets were too kiddie, and these have just lost their way.
Vader Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 It makes me wonder what theyll do with them next. :(
David85 Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Space is next for sure. Star Wars runs out in 2007, so they are probaly going to do ICE for as long as they can, then take 2007 off to get ready for Space Alpha Team in 2008.
Vader Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Its possible, but i hope they dont and it would mean stretching the ice line out way too long.
Vader Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 I loved the first sets like i said before, when they first came out the were different and yet still had a place IMO in a regular city as a special crime unit. But now they are taking them too sci fi, dont get me wrong i like the sets but i wish they would return to doing more like the first sets.
David85 Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 The sets are onsale on Amazon.com in the States. I wonder if they would ship to other places.
Vader Posted December 4, 2004 Posted December 4, 2004 Really?? i think that they do ship overseas thanks for the heads up :)
ApophisV Posted December 4, 2004 Author Posted December 4, 2004 Okay, I have updated the thread with the more clear pictures of the boxes of this Brickshelf gallery... It looks like the mecha comes with DarkBlue bars, not TransGrey how I thought first...The flags seem to be DarkBlue, too. And if you look closely to the hinges that connect the "feet" to the lower legs you will notice those new (okay, at least for me, I haven't any... :P) hinges, that come with the Bionicle knights and the latest Designer sets... There are at least 8 included... (You can see it on this image) The rest of this set is just slopes and other (at least for me) useless pieces... But lets talk about the scorpion: The legs and arms are just bionicle'ish, much ball joints, and that's it.... But the body and the tail are looking (as already mentioned by Vader) well made, some fine parts, like a 1x4 slope in DarkRed (I've never seen a 1x4 slope before!) The Head / Cockpit looks fine, though it isn't air tight.... The rubber band at the tip of the tail is just ugly.... Last thing I'd like to say is, that the glider that comes with the set is just ugly, better modify a Ewok Attack glider... ;) (Though it got trans 1x2 grilles, white skis (sp??) and sandblue droid arms....
Vader Posted December 5, 2004 Posted December 5, 2004 What i like about the scorpion it is that lego have given us a set that can be easly modified to become say a space ship or a sub etc. Their is also alot of good parts and new coloured parts in the mecca set , but i believe that most people will buy the mecca as a parts set. Gotta say again i really like the new color scheme for the drone, the dark red hands in particular.
Orlego Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 These new sets would be cool if they were not Alpha Team theme. Lego should have just came out with a new name for the new alpha sets. The Alpha Team line is almost dead anyway, why not start fresh with a new theme if you are going to take it in a different direction? There is a following for Alpha Team, but it is the worst selling theme Lego has, including Belville. :P
Vader Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 That dosent surprise me, all the shops that sell lego have nearly always got them on the shelfs. I agree they should of given the line a new name and characters.
Orlego Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Yeah, we are out of almost everything. The entire designer section of our store is filled with advent calendars, but we still have Alpha Team. |-/
