Jacob C. Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Sometime in the near future when I build my pirate ship, I'll also make my own custom flag for it. For inspiration, I found a buncha flag designs and bunched em together in one pic: Pirate Flags The first 16 flags were used by actual pirates, I'm not sure about the last 4. I'll probably just print out my own custom sticker to place over one of my lego flags. Though I would actually prefer to make it out of cloth but I don't know how. Have any of you made custom pirate flags or know of anyone who has? And if someone could post a good link about making sails too, that'd be a real help! Quote
eNiGMa Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I don't really have any advice to give, but let me just say that those flags look pretty scary. I'd hate to be their victim--or a sailor serving under them, for that matter! Great work, and I look forward to seeing your ship! Quote
Deinonychus Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 :-D I was always amused that all the LEGO Pirates (except the 4+ ones that is ) seemed to fly under the flag of Edward England Quote
Jacob C. Posted May 30, 2006 Author Posted May 30, 2006 I was always amused that all the LEGO Pirates (except the 4+ ones that is ) seemed to fly under the flag of Edward England I suppose they chose Edward England's flag because England was known to use restraint when it came to violence and usually didn't kill unless it was necessary. Well, and his flag is the stereotypical pirate flag people think of nowadays. It would have been pretty funny if Lego had chosen Edward Low's flag instead. I would have prefered Calico Jack Rackham's flag myself. Quote
Deinonychus Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 It would have been pretty funny if Lego had chosen Edward Low's flag instead. If you want funny/creepy, what if they had used Blackbeard's flag...that's one scary banner X-O Quote
The Hordesman Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Skipper, thar are great! The only ones I feel is missing is these: Simple Crossed Bones Simple Crossed Cutlasses Hourglass (A pirate flag that existed in real life, symbolized the end, aka pirates) The hourglass is a part of four of the flags, but what about a lone one? ;) Awesome work yar matey! I actually have wanted to make a custom pirate faction (hourglass above) but I never could make the hourglass look good. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 30, 2006 Governor Posted May 30, 2006 Are these not the 16 flags used in Sid Meier's Pirates! ? Quote

Scnicker Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Those are flags from Sid Meier's Pirates! Phes, but those were actual flags of the real life pirates. Henry Morgan all the way! Quote
Jacob C. Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 Those are flags from Sid Meier's Pirates! Phes, but those were actual flags of the real life pirates.Yep.I found most of the flags at this site: Jolly Rogers Henry Morgan all the way! Anyone know what Morgan's flag looked like? Evil Willy's Making sails tutorial, Pictures included Oh cool! That's an interesting way to make sails! I never imagined it would involve incense and coffee, lol! I might give that a shot or I might just buy some cloth similar to the lego sails, use a hole-puncher to make the holes, etc. Anyone know what material Lego uses for their sails? Quote
Berry Syedow Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Anyone know what Morgan's flag looked like? Because he was a privateer wouldn't he fly his country's flag? I'm not savvy with my pirate history so feel free to correct me. :-P Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 31, 2006 Governor Posted May 31, 2006 Those are flags from Sid Meier's Pirates! Phes, but those were actual flags of the real life pirates. Henry Morgan all the way! Yes Mr Scnicker, I'm well aware they are actual flags of pirates but the reason I was asking is because they are the exact same 16 flags featured in the 1993 Pirates! Gold for Windows 3.11. I was wondering whether that was coincidence or whether they were from the game. Anyone know what Morgan's flag looked like? There doesn't seem to be much information, but here's something... Morgan flew under papers from King Charles of England, hence he flew one of the most dreaded jacks of piracy known to the Spanish Main. It is quite possible that his crew would have used a buccaneers joli rouge as well because most of Morgan's men were buccaneers and freebooters from Jamaica and other Caribbean islands. Source Quote
Captain Ironhook Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 :-D I was always amused that all the LEGO Pirates (except the 4+ ones that is ) seemed to fly under the flag of Edward England what about when they introduced the new material flags? Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 31, 2006 Governor Posted May 31, 2006 You mean this flag? Technically its still Edward England's flag, just not in a tradional square shape... Quote
Scnicker Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 I think Henry Morgan used a different flag instead of the UK flag. If anyone of you still have pirates! installed, could you check it out please? Thanks. Quote
vahkimetru Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 Are these not the 16 flags used in Sid Meier's Pirates! ? I LOVE SID MIERS! Anyways, good flags, I'll look for them on the game. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 21, 2006 Governor Posted June 21, 2006 I think Henry Morgan used a different flag instead of the UK flag. If anyone of you still have pirates! installed, could you check it out please? Thanks. The 16 flags used in Pirates! Gold for Windows 3.11 are exactly the same ones linked to this thread. Henry Morgan just isn't in the game. Here is a link to all the pirate/privateer flags in the game. As for Pirates! 2004... I'd have to play the game but I don't have time right now.... Quote
Jipay Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Have you ever tried Port Royal ? It's a neat pirate game ! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 21, 2006 Governor Posted June 21, 2006 I went and bought Port Royal 2 off eBay but it won't install. I really need to wipe the hard disk and reinstall everything because I've got a few problems that I suppose can only be resolved by the reinstallation of Windows. I was going to buy a 300GB hard disk the other day so I didn't have worry about buring everything to DVD but the place I wasn't getting it from didn't have any in stock. Hopefully tomorrow they'll have some and I can do a nice clean install of everything. But anyway... Back to the topic... Which Pirates and flags were featured in the Port Royale games? Quote
Jipay Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 well the game doesn't feature a lot of pirate flags ! I'm not sure about the pirate aspect of it because I haven't played the game to become a pirate (I'm only one of those over rich merchand so far...). You have first to chose a nation to belong to and it gives you automatically one flag. It chanegs when you switch to the dark side ! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted June 21, 2006 Governor Posted June 21, 2006 The dark side? By this do you mean you begin to commit acts of piracy? Quote
Jacob C. Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 The 16 flags used in Pirates! Gold for Windows 3.11 are exactly the same ones linked to this thread. That's odd. They used many of the real pirate flags in the game but had fictional pirate names to go along with them. Why didn't they just use the real names of the pirates? Quote
