Izzy Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Cutlass Iz: You stole my head Just kidding! I like the look of both your character and the vig, the only thing that bugs me is his blonde hair, but that's just me! I am a sucker for a blonde man, . I wanted him to have that surfy/backpacker/tanned/sunbleached hair/well worn/always in the sun look, and that hair works perfectly for that. Dontcha think? Quote
kevin1990 Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 kevin1990: I rather enjoy your entry, and the technique for those sunflowers are amazing. Your character's backstory is pretty good too, though I dont know how I feel about the use of nearly all of McGonnagall. First of all, Thanks :D, and wow you are right, a few months ago I got a few harry potter figures from a from, but now that I searched it you are right it is almost all the parts of Mcgonnagall. I didn't even know :O Sorry Quote

Gregorovich Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 I'm sorry, but I don't know what's happened to my pictures. I can't see them either, but it shows a box with a question mark, but that happens a of since I'm on an iPod. So can no one see my pictures? Quote

Tazmaniac Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Does the minifig and accesory count as peices? yes! Quote
JaseTJ Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 As AdmiralRon said a page or so back, this is what I meant to ask: Can I have mulitple shots of my fig, with different hats/hair, and different clothing, etc. as long as the character stays the same? Quote
Tazmaniac Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) As AdmiralRon said a page or so back, this is what I meant to ask: Can I have mulitple shots of my fig, with different hats/hair, and different clothing, etc. as long as the character stays the same? As only one shot will go into the voting thread I don't see the point of having different clothes/headgear, if the vig contained a wardrobe full of clothes then I suppose it would be alright, but they would have to be part of the "part count". Hinckley is the only one that can answer your question. @ Cutlass Iz: I'm not sure if it's ok to ask, but what's your brick count? Don't take this the wrong way but it looks over 100 pieces to me . I hope I'm wrong as you nailed that first photo. Edited January 20, 2011 by TazManiac Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I know the rules say no gratuitous violence or gore, and I hope the slight gore that I depict in my entry isn't too horrible. Please let me know if you think it doesn't meet the rules so that I can change the color of the stream. I did not create it without purpose; I wished to symbolically illustrate the background of my Wizard. Quote
Sisco Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Oh, Cloney... I'm loving your entry. The backstory is one of the best so far, and that vignette is perfect. I love the "Stream of Blood" effect. The figure is very good looking, as well. Probably my favorite so far. Quote

I hope I'm wrong as you nailed that first photo. I just did a rough count and got over 100, not by much, maybe 10 or something. I hadn't thought to count it at all. Just built in a frenzy. I will see what I can do. Quote

I hope I'm wrong as you nailed that first photo. No offense, but who made you the rule police? I've noticed you doing this, but I don't really know why. There's really no need for this. I don't care that Izy's entry is just ten pieces over the limit; it doesn't really matter. Ten pieces won't make or break you. Quote
Matn Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I don't mind it either, it's a great entry. I just think the rule is there so no one will exaggerate with their entry. And all the entries look great already! I'm noticing these rule policemen a lot during the LEGO Harry Potter Month(s). All I can say: chill out and mind your own creation. Quote
Tazmaniac Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 "All entries not living up to the rules on the end date will be disqualified " I'm not trying to police anything! just trying to let people know if they've fallen out side the "rules" not mine the comps. I too think that all these entries are great and it would be a shame if some didn't make the voting thread over a couple of bricks or a overhanging leaf. Hinckley made it pretty clear that a rule is a rule, I'm not an inforcer of these rules just informing you of them. I wont do this again and will leave it up to the individual to read the rules and stick to them........I was trying to be a good sport!! Quote
Izzy Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 @ CorneliusMurdock's Entry After flying all over Upper Flagley, he almost fell of the broom. He tried desperately to remount it but ended up backwards before plummeting into a nearby park. Somehow he managed to survive with only minor injuries. It would be so awesome if one of the minor injuries that this poor little fellow got was a lightning shaped scar on his forehead. Quote

TazManiac (now talking to others) attended the person very gentily on it's (possible) rule-break. And he even turned out to be right! When the rules don't allow us to have overlap outside of the vignette, even if it's very little, (something with which I agree by the way) I think it's not less than reasonable that TazManiac doesn't get 'treated' the way he's now... Anyway, back to building now, I think! EDIT: To not doublepost: I absolutely love Skalldyr's and Ingrimm's entries! They're amazing, but the others definitely too! Matns techniques for the Seeker are pretty original! (the legs, arms, perspective, etc.!) And so on! :) Edited January 23, 2011 by Mr.Brick Quote
Tazmaniac Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 wow this is turning out to be a great little comp with some really original ideas and a lot of thought going into these characters! Quote
Ingrimm Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I absolutely love Skalldyr's and Ingrimm's entries! They're amazing, but the others definitely too! Matns techniques for the Seeker are pretty original! (the legs, arms, perspective, etc.!) And so on! :) Oh, thank you very much, Mr. Brick. Your short picture story is a brilliant idea. I especially love the picture where Prof. Scamander tries to get the dog back on the ground by pulling on its tail, it looks really hilarious. And you are right, there are so many excellent entries! It is very hard to choose a favorite. Up to now I think I would give my vote (if I had one) to Skalldyr, because I think his entry is an amazing combination of parts, it looks very unique. The "only 100 parts"-rule is really cruel! It broke my heart to remove some details after building my entry... Quote

I really enjoy all the entries so far, there are some really well constructed storys and new piece usages....like the maraka Ingrimm used! Quote
kciR Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Found out about this competition a week ago and build a small piece this weekend. This is a nice competition, nice uploads already! My vig is now up, I hope you like it! Good luck everyone! Quote
Ceroknight Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hello! I'm almost done my entry, but before I post it, can I ask everyone about hogwarts? It will really help with my back story Anyways, was hogwarts built by Gryfindor and his gang or just founded by them? Harry Potter wikia says it was only founded by them but just in case.. Quote
Oky Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Like Hermione would say: "Haven't you been paying attention in History of Magic?" "You all know, of course, that Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago - the precise date is uncertain - by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. They built this castle together, far from prying Muggle eyes, for it was an age when magic was feared by common people, and witches and wizards suffered much persecution." -- Professor Binns (CS) So, the answer is yes. Quote
Mr.Brick Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Like Hermione would say: "Haven't you been paying attention in History of Magic?" Lol! Or "You still haven't read Hogwarts: A History?!" By the way, Harry Potter Wiki uses the movies and games as canon sources. In the movie there is a statue of the 'architect of Hogwarts'. However, no mention of such person is made in the books. Okay, back to topic. Quote
Bricknave Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 There have been a lot of great entries so far! My favorite ones so far are: Jade Rip-Snorter by TazManiac -- I really like the fireplace and Jade Rip-Snorter himself. Cecil Saneworth by cralegoboy -- I like the smoothness of the vignette, as well as Cecil Saneworth and his backstory. Katharine Zoeker by Matn -- I like the combination of the clear bar and the microscale town to make the high-flying effect. Veneten by the Lantern Rogue -- Excellent use of the black frying pans for the front thighs, and the 1x2 curved slopes for the hind legs. Russki Westnik by Skalldyr -- I really like the broom and Russki himself. Clever use of the PoP sword holster. Sir Hyperion Fairfax by tin7_creations -- Excellently built dragon and clever microscale scenery. Quote
