Bricks by the Bay Call For Presentations

Bricks By The Bay 2011 is looking for any talks, roundtables, and special activities you would like to see at the Con this year. Going to and putting on sessions are one of the things that makes a Lego convention fun.

Past talks have included publishing LEGO-related books, Using RCX bricks to control motorized models, using LEGO Mindstorms in the classroom, among many others.

Roundtables, or moderated discussions, have included Planning for the NMRA convention, discussions about publishing BrickJournal, and creating LEGO sculptures.

Possible ideas include:

• Steampunk LEGO Creations

• An Introduction to LDraw and related programs

• An Introduction to Lego Digital Designer

• Packing models for shipping without breaking

• De-yellowing Bricks

• Lego Plans on eReaders and the iPad

• LEGO at Burning Man

• Building Big – skyscrapers and other large buildings

• Bricklink — An Average Seller’s Perspective

• FIRST LEGO League

• Collecting Rare Elements

• LEGO Pirates Roundtable

• Steam Locomotive Design Techniques

• SNOT techniques

• Half-Plate offsets

• LEGO Universe Roundtable

• Brickwiki – what is it and how you can participate

• NMRA / NTS 2011 Roundtable

• Microscale building

• Sorting & Storing Roundtable

All we need for more talks, roundtables, and activities are ideas and

people to run with them. Projectors and a computer will be available (although bringing your own laptop ensures compatibility).

Anyone who would like to run a presentation or activity should e-mail proposals or questions to Paul Sinasohn (singlow AT gmail DOT com---please mention Bricks By The Bay in the subject).

If possible, please include a possible title, brief description for the event program, and any time constraints or facility requirements. Events are typically scheduled to run up to sixty minutes but can be scheduled for more or less time.

I need proposals by February 6 to have time to prepare the schedule and the program. Earlier is better.

All presenters must register for the full convention.

Bricks by the Bay is an annual Lego hobbyist convention and exposition in the Dan Francisco Bay Area. Bricks by the Bay 2011 will take place March 25 – 27, 2011, in the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara. For more information or to register visit www .bricksbythebay .com

Cool, I live in San Jose and I'd like to go to this.

I would be interested in a "storing and sorting" talk, but make sure it doesn't go on for terribly long or people might get bored :). I would also be interested in the Bricklink one and maybe collecting rare elements.

Perhaps I can suggest a more local talk? Just an idea, but it would be cool to go over local Lego resources, like which stores sell Lego because maybe there are some I don't know about.

Oh and getting local stores to give away exclusive coupons would be a big bonus, if you can swing that.

Other than that, I would just go to see some stuff that other people have made.

I went to the 2010 event. Waited over 45 mins just to buy tickets. Once I got in my daughter and I were very impressed with what we saw. Looks like your webpage states some changes will be made for this year, glad to hear it. So if I wanted to display something at the convention, how would I go abut getting signed up? Would I just need to register for the event and pay the event fee?

We've got a new venue with more than double the spaceof last year's show.

To exhibit, you must register for the full convention - the reg system is now open at www. bricksbythebay .com /wordpress/convention/registration

Hope to see you there!

Well I made it, did anyone else? Just curious as to which model won the fan vote?

I showed up at 11:00. All I can say is WOW, huge crowds, and really long line to get in. Forgot to buy tickets online and I didn't want to wait. Luckily I had brought along my Great America tickets, which was one block away. Spent a few hours at the theme park, then headed over to Bricks by the Bay.

No line at all by 2:00 or so when I got there. I took a few pics, and spent a few bucks at your vendor area. Overall my daughter and I had a great time, thanks to all who helped put this thing on. The bigger room was nice, but as always there was room for more exhibits and more vendors. I plan on going back next year. Maybe my kid and I will have something to show?

Lego builders show off their skills at Bricks by the Bay 2011 Convention. Check out some of the photos here: http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/lego-builders-show-off-their-skills-at-bricks-by-the-bay-photos/6207146

There were more than 4300 visitors on the public day, Mar-27. And guess what: Pre-paid line (people how had purchased tickets in advance via http://www.bricksbythebay.com/ ) was longer than cash only line. It went around two long corridors and then out of the building. The gigantic exhibition hall was jam packed within minutes the doors were opened for public. I can bet these were all those people who had to wait in mile long cash only for Bricks by the Bay 2010. And thankfully, it didn't rain on Sunday.

Actually, the preliminary number of paid visitors on Sunday's Public Exhibit Day was 3723.

This thread is worthless without pictures!

OK, so here is a few I took.

Super detailed micro scale diorama. My vote for best in show.

Not mine, but I got this set as a kid, my all time favorite birthday or Christmas gift.
