having grown out of nu metal and emometal, i listened and went out to lots of gig in my dark ages and i think i must of grown out of them as i cant enjoy half the bands that i used to enjoy.

i am happy listening to sick of it all and terror (whom i seen twice and are both amazing bands) bane, the chariot, death before dishonour, h20, mastodon, paint it black, minus the bear and these arms are snakes . i also find myself enjoying isis and cult of luna. the only band i can say that without doubt that i still enjoy from nu metal years was RATM, when they got number one at christmas over here a couple years back it made my day.

to be honest i would say that i listen to hip hop more than i listen to metal. sorry!.

I never knew any of these threads existed! Well ive been listening to metal since the age of 6, so for 22 years now. Theres no question of THE best when it comes to metal, Metallica all the way, ive been lucky enough to see them nearly every time they play the UK, and even though they are getting on a bit their live performances still destroy any other metal band! Also I have to mention Megadeth as I think they are actually more musically talented then Metallica and in some ways they are like Metallicas dark side due to the history between the 2 bands.

My top 10 list, and the only bands I listen to:

Metallica

Megadeth

Led Zeppelin

Faith No More

Iron Maiden

Helloween(classic line-up)

Black Sabbeth

Motorhead

Slayer

Alestorm

Rage Against The Machine

So who hear listens to metal, rock and other similar genres? and Who are your favourite groups?

Long time metalhead here. Though I listen to a wide range of music, from classical to thrash metal, my 'love' is metal, through and through.

Fave bands include (but are not limited to): Testament, Overkill, Accept, Metal Church, Megadeth, (old) Metallica, Pantera, Motorhead, Anthrax, Armoured Saint, (old) Exodus, Death Angel, Forbidden, Warlock, White Zombie/Rob Zombie, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Dio, Manowar, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, (old) Queensryche, Crimson Glory, AC/DC...

I could go on and on but, I'm sure you get the idea.

1. They were great for their time, but IMHO they're a bit outdated now. I'm sorry, but I don't think they stood the test of time very well. I do however love the insanity known as "I am the Walrus"

2. I <3 Pink Floyd. 'Nuff said.

3. Never heard of them, I might have to google 'em.

4. Never heard of them, I might have to google 'em.

5. Meh, not bad. Not my favorite, though.

6. I. Love. Led. Zeppelin. They're one of my favorite groups. Good taste .

7. Never heard of them, I might have to google 'em.

8. The name sounds familiar, but it doesn't ring a bell.

Didn't stand the test of time very well?!?!?!?!

Dear Lord, I certainly hope you're kidding.

I'll list some more bands and musicians I like.

Neil Young, especially Hey Hey, My My.

Manfred Mann's Earth band. Well, I only like their song

but the song is so epic it makes the band awesome!

Weezer

The Beach Boys

Jimi Hendrix

Rush

You've definitely got your finger on the pulse of the classics.

(well, okay, so I wouldn't call 'Weezer' "classic" but, the others...)

Listening to Tankard right now.

Holy heck! Haven't heard that name since...geez, the late '80s, or early '90s! *huh*

def leppard is one of my favorite bands, they have a lot of great music. ac/dc, kiss, bon jovi, and Cinderella are great too.

I'm a huge fan of 1970's rock, hard rock and progressive rock, mostly of the British variety. I generally dislike metal for the reason that I find it almost impossible to enjoy, and Led Zeppelin is the furthest down that route that I'm willing to go.

If I had to decide on a top 10 artists to classify as my favourite, it'd probably look like this:

  1. David Bowie
  2. Pink Floyd
  3. Led Zeppelin
  4. Queen
  5. The Rolling Stones
  6. The Who
  7. The Kinks
  8. The Clash
  9. Fleetwood Mac
  10. T. Rex

In no particular order, as I couldn't really draw much between these. I do listen to some of the artists more often than others however, for example I would be willing to listen to Bowie any hour of the day, but only T. Rex if I'm in the mood for some shallow, trashy light rock music.

I've always like metal, but liked very few of the vocalists. I'm not into the screaming/growling, etc stuff. Lately I've been listening to mostly instrumental metal like Bob Katsionis and the instrumental versions of tracks from Nightwish and Within Temptation. I also enjoy the instrumentals from Dream Theater, like The Count Of Tuscany.

I usually do Sythpop and electronica, but I'll occasionally listen to Breaking Benjamin, and of course, Sabaton.

If that's not bad-a**, I don't know what is.

In the immortal words of Beavis & Butthead, "YES! ROCK!" :sweet: Let's see.

Stabbing Westward

Metallica

Fear Factory

Judas Priest

Well, I guess that's a decent start. 'Til next time!

Edited by TheOrcKing

Well, I love rock, it's a fundamental part of my life  About the bands, making a classification is simply impossible because I have a lot of them and I listed to them depending on the mood and the time :classic:

I say:

-Deep Purple

-Pink Floyd

-Nightwish

-Linkin Park

-Depeche Mode

-Within Temptation

-Sirenia (I started recently listening them)

-Avantasia (The Scarecrow and The Wicked Simphony)

-Bon Jovi

-Bruce Springsteen

-Lacuna Coil (I started recently listening them)

-Dream Theater (Image and Words)

-Muse

-Toto

-Evanescence

-Scorpions (only a few songs)

However I don't dislike listening other rock songs on the radio :classic:
