Nike2032 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Sahmad's Tale chapter 7 is up on bioniclestory.com Wait, so is it finished? Quote
Phantoka Kopaka Nuva Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Sahmad's Tale chapter 7 is up on bioniclestory.com Finally, thought it would never show up. So Telluris died. Not that it's unexpected, but it could've been better. Although, if Sahmad dreamt a world of no dreams, and Goldie made it happen, how would he be able to dream again??? Quote
TheRedGuy Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Some story. I kind of liked Telluris tough. But he's idiotic-er than I thought. I mean, how can you kill ANYTHING with a branch? Anyways, good tale, as always, and I look forward to seeing more. Quote
Brickthing Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Don't bother with the spoiler tags peeps; the first post lets people know whether they've read the latest story or not. Finally, thought it would never show up. So Telluris died. Not that it's unexpected, but it could've been better. Although, if Sahmad dreamt a world of no dreams, and Goldie made it happen, how would he be able to dream again??? I'm not entirely sure of the logic/morals behind the Gold Being's dream power either. Your plot hole aside, warping reality (and creating others) over a planet-wide distance seems like a ridiculously strong power, even if someone needs to imagine it first. The Legendary mask of Creation didn't do that presumably because it was too powerful of an ability. When Sahmad returns the dreaming power to the world, it seems as if he dreamed that no-one but him could dream, but he was feeling the effects of having no dreams himself... I'm really pleased that Greg uploaded this chapter to conclude the serial, however I wonder what made him decide to do so. Discussion of BIONICLE storyline has just about ground to a halt without BZP forums being up, and it's been such a long time since the previous update. The background noise to this chapter was quite different to chapter 6 (which I used to remind myself of the tale so far), so maybe he's just finished resettling into a new workspace? Quote
Refia Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 I'm surprised anybody still cares about a more-than-dead franchise's story. It was alright, and another one kicked the bucket. In the past, maybe it would have bothered me how easily Greg gets rid of people, but Bionicle is so dead by now that I just can't be bothered. One can't afford any interest in the story, since updates take forever. Any excitement you might feel disappears over the next two months (at best) it takes for the next chapter to surface. Sad, but true. On to the next character to be scrapped off the list of the living. Quote

This makes me wonder how people are still interested in Star Wars, even after the movies are finished A LONG TIME AGO. And it's kinda disappointing to see more deaths. But hey, it's not Greg's fault the set designers make so much sets. I mean, even the guy that drives the Thornatus (what was his name again?) hasn't appeared in story yet. Now that he has the story to himself, he can kill off any minor/unneeded characters. So yeah, Telluris's death is reasonable. No comments on Karzahni and Tren Krom's deaths though. Then again, he did say The Powers That Be will have a lot of deaths. Mostly powerful beings. Quote

So yeah, Telluris's death is reasonable. Minor characters don't need to be killed off when there are lots of them; they're usually put aside until there's an appropriate use for them in the future. They're good for dying if needed to create effect, but I don't think Telluris' death improved the chapter or properly concluded his own story. Quote

But it helps Greg avoid questions like "When are you bringing [insert character name here] back in story?". Although, it's kinda fun imagining a deranged dude running with a branch while screaming like an idiot. A little bit of humor always makes it interesting. Quote
Zarkan Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Well, I liked the conclusion, and honestly, I don't care that Telluris died. With how little room Greg has to continue the Bionicle storyline, the chance that Telluris would be featured again in any sigficant role was next to nothing. Was it necessary? Perhaps not, but I'm not shedding any tears over it either. Now, if Sahmad had died, I would have been mad, but that wasn't the case. I doubt we'll hear from him again either, but at least he was given a pretty good sendoff, what with him finally getting revenge upon the being who killed his people. When Sahmad returns the dreaming power to the world, it seems as if he dreamed that no-one but him could dream, but he was feeling the effects of having no dreams himself It's rather simple, actually. Sahmad only dreamed that the dreams beings had at night disappeared, as those were the kind Annona fed on. I don't believe he ever dreamed away the kind that beings had in their heart, as there was no reason to. Quote
Mesonak Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 (edited) Coincidentally, today's the 10th anniversary of BIONICLE's release (at least in the USA); and the fan community at large has done absolutely nothing to commemorate it (except for this chapter, but it doesn't count). Good chapter, though I don't like how they killed Telluris off. Sure, he may not have been a major character, but you can tell his death was only to get rid of one more useless character, that shouldn't have been introduced in the first place; one of the major things I disliked about 2009 was that they introduced all these random throw-away characters that wound up serving little-to-no purpose. Sad, but true. On to the next character to be scrapped off the list of the living. This is awfully harsh. I actually am glad some people still appreciate BIONICLE. Some of my best friends online still frequently do BIONICLE-inspired artwork, and I consider it a failing of mine that I can't even draw inspiration from the BIONICLE story now that it's mostly finished. And no, this isn't coming from an adoring fan. This is coming from someone who, like you, doesn't have the patience for the story serials, and who doesn't particularly care about what has happened in them so far. I keep promising myself that I'll go back and read all of them one day, and then I never do. It's not because I'm all mopey about Greg killing off characters-- after all, the fact that a select few deaths like Matoro or Lhikan are huge, heartbreaking affairs doesn't mean every death that isn't is "cheapened" somehow-- nor is it because I think the story should be cancelled and forgotten when there are still people interested in it. I just can't work up the interest myself. What I dread most of all is that in fact my interest in the BIONICLE storyline so far has been shallow since the beginning. Since the Hero Factory story came out I have been extremely interested in the theme, and not because the Hero Factory story has huge mysteries that I'm waiting to see get revealed, but rather just because it's a fun good-versus-evil story with cool characters and plenty of room for imagination. Did BIONICLE have that same thing going for it ever? And if so, why doesn't it anymore? I try not to think about these things too deeply. The last thing I need is things I've lost keeping me up at night. And there are enough of those in my life as it is. Quote

It's kind of hard to when the only significant Bionicle forum on the internet has been down for repairs for months. Although, it is curious that BZP hasn't mentioned this, since the staff has still been doing regular news updates. Quote

That's my only concern, BZP; I wouldn't expect Eurobricks or similar sites to make a big deal over it, since BIONICLE isn't the primary focus. I wonder what the reasoning is behind the lack of mention. Regarding the chapter and deaths being cheapened; Not to say that when a character dies it has no effect, but usually in the BIONICLE storyline, to feel something other than annoyance when a character dies you have to be heavily invested in them and their story. In TPTB, so far none of the deaths have struck a chord with me in any way expect regret (that Tren Krom never got to become a set). Few deaths besides Matoro (not even Lhikan) have made an impact with me, actually. The last time I can remember feeling sad for a character's passing was Krika's when he and the other Makuta were obliterated in Karda Nui, considering I enjoyed his character and thought of him as a refreshing break from the entirely-evil Makuta archetype. Most of the story serial deaths, on the other hand, have done nothing but frustrate me. Edited July 3, 2011 by Mesonak Quote
