March 24, 201113 yr I'm sure there will be portal axel in the model. The description of the text mentions "higher ground clearence" . From wikipedia: Portal axles (or portal gear) are an offroad technology where the axle tube is above the center of the wheel hub.[1] Compared to normal layout, this enables the vehicle to gain a higher ground clearance, as both the axle tube and differential casing are tucked up higher under the vehicle. March 27, 201113 yr Image from Brickset: I think this image looks so well,The claw is also impressive with the rubber grippers too. Edited March 27, 201113 yr by davidmull
March 27, 201113 yr so for the three differentials will the center one be an old kind? I was wondering this myself... I have been working with different center differential set-ups myself for all-wheel-drive cars with the new style one.... However according to Lego direct, the old style differentials are currently still being produced...
March 27, 201113 yr if you recall the new differentials have 4 tabs on one side like the old ones, it was rumored on tbs that it could mean a new driving ring for locking it so could this be a possibility?
March 28, 201113 yr HERE is the Unimog (not yet ) buyable, and the price is... 160,99 EURO It has also a little bigger picture than Brickset: Edited March 28, 201113 yr by legolijntje
March 28, 201113 yr But under this price is stated, that recommended retail price is 189,99 € !!! So Lego S@H price will be 189,99 !
March 28, 201113 yr 200 dollars U.S. thats pretty steep, how does this compare to the 8043 price? still is there any info on parts count?? Edited March 28, 201113 yr by garson
March 28, 201113 yr €160 euro seems to be the price in Europe so,if so it's the same price as 8043 which was 159.99 here in Ireland,
March 30, 201113 yr Thought this might be relevant! I was interested as to how the mechanism in the grab on the crane on the upcoming lego technic 8110 set functioned, so i reversed engineered a copy of it to see! i had to substitute the Technic axle joiner double flexible in the original for the grey double axle 1/2wide lift arms as i didn't have any but other than a few colour changes the rest is accurate.... works nicely! reverse engineered grab from 8110 by sam2442, on Flickr reverse engineered grab from 8110 by sam2442, on Flickr reverse engineered grab from 8110 by sam2442, on Flickr
March 30, 201113 yr I wonder is having the pneumatic cylinder horizontal rather than vertical much of an advantage over 8868.

April 1, 201113 yr I wonder is having the pneumatic cylinder horizontal rather than vertical much of an advantage over 8868. Hydraulic (and pneumatic) cylinders have less force when working in tension, than working in compression (better explanation found at http://www.technicopedia.com/8868.html). With Lego, it's easier to make the cylinder's power stroke work in compression when it's installed horizontally, as opposed to installing it vertically. One technic piece that has the cylinder in the claw installed horizontally is the 8443 Log Loader. The 8868's claw is pretty weak, because the power stroke works in tension rather than in compression.
April 5, 201113 yr Only 4 months to wait for this set guys, bring it on I can't wait any longer I'm about to explode ha.
April 5, 201113 yr YEEEEEEEEEEY! I'd say ur really excited about this big turn of pneumatics allenp,it's really the new air tech claw 8868 which I have just bought too,I usually wait till Christmas for big sets but I'll have to get this as soon as it's out :)

April 6, 201113 yr You could say that. It's not JUST the return of pneumatics in a flagship set, it's a number of other things as well. It's the first to combine pneumatics (with motorised compressor) with the complexities of a gearbox. It's got new large wheels and a new "gearbox for higher ground clearance". I'm really excited about that new part. I hope it also provides a low friction, heavy duty way of gearing down at the wheel (for more power at the wheel without breaking bevel gears in the diff) and steering driven axles. Of course we can build somthing similar, I already have many times for big motorised trucks. But they are never really perfect. This is gonna be sweeeeeet!
April 8, 201113 yr This set looks amazing and I'm probably going to buy it. Well, how could I resist with it combining pneumatics and power functions. I especially like the apparent modularity of it, and the angled pneumatic switches in the back.

I especially like the apparent modularity of it, and the angled pneumatic switches in the back. I agree and the switchs are all easy to get too and is going to make this model lots off fun, what size do people expect this model to compare too? Also I can't wait to see do they use a new different type compressor too! Edited April 13, 201113 yr by davidmull
April 15, 201113 yr Set will be available in Holland on July 30 at €161,50 (according to their website) check here Not much info, it only says: 'motor included'
April 15, 201113 yr Anyone knows if the piece count indicated by Brickpedia (2049) is reliable? This set seems to have so much less pieces than for example 8421, 8285 or 8258, which have less than 1900 pieces.
