Nugget699 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I'm looking at creating a Hanger for my TIE Fighters but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to do it. As you can see from this picture TIE Fighters are held in place by two "clamps" on the neck part of the fighter. Someone has done a great MOC over at mocpages but I can't seem to find the technic brick that he is using as a clamp on bricklink. Has anyone tried something like this before? Quote
Nugget699 Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 Surely not. The one in the MOC has many more studs, and plus its more like an upside-down "U" in the MOC where as the brick you are referring to wouldn't attach around the Fighter's neck. Appreciate the help though :-) Quote

Appreciate the help though :-) Oh, I see what you mean now. Can't really get a good look at it. Personally, I'd just go and build something out of what you have instead of trying to use what someone else did. There's got to be a more elegant solution than that hunk o' Technic. Quote
Nugget699 Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 I've been trying but I always fall back to the same problem which is attaching the gantries (that hold the clamp) to the underside of the walkway up the top. The weight of the TIE Fighter is just to great for two measly supports to hold. I'm obviously trying to replicate the movies as much as possible, and don't want too many supports or gantries in the way to obscure the view of the Fighter which is what everyone will want to see. I have come up with an idea of resting the Fighter on two supports rather than clamps (excuse the colours and poor choice of supports, it was a rush job): It holds up quite well but after a while the supports give way to the base plate up the top. As you can probably tell I'm perhaps not the best bricker around, I much prefer to collect. But this has me irritated and interested all at the same time! Quote

I don't think it's a single piece. Looking at this image, to me it's one of these... ... and something similar at the back. It's hardly a stunning MOC though; I recommend working out you're own solution. While obviously too small, what TLG did with the Death Star was far smarter. I'd try to make something similar to that if you want something to work from. Quote
Henchmen4Hire Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 You could, you know, ask the guy what part he used worst thing that could happen is you don't get a response. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Do the gantry in Technic. There's no way the studs of two clamps will hold up the fighter. If the whole thing is Technic, it shouldn't have any problem holding up the TIE. Quote
