Jargo Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 For me, The reason I entered a dark age was lack of money. Mostly. I'd reached an age and found myself living in horrible little bedsits and apartments with barely enough room to turn around let alone house a Lego collection. However, I decided to have one last little splurge and bought 6559: Deep Sea Bounty. Oh I thought it rocked. Aside from the rubbish fish stickers it had everything you could want of an ocean adventure. I'll admit I now covet 6441: Deep Sea Refuge and wish I'd bought that too, but I didn't and went into my dark age in a mini sub facing fearsome marine creatures... So, what was the last set you bought/had bought for you before darkness and cobwebs took control of your Lego love? Quote
alois Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 When I entered my dark ages, I was still at an age that I didn't have the means to buy Legos, but was dependent on what parents and other family members gave me. The last set of Legos I got, was set 5510 4x4 off road, and this is today the only set that has survived my dark ages assembled, all be it with a thick and sticky layer of dust and with a lot of bleaching on the yellow Legos. Only the little shovel got lost. Quote

Only the little shovel got lost. Same here. I never bought any LEGO myself until I was an adult, so the last set I received as a gift was 6950 - Mobile Rocket Transport. I still have all of my LEGO from my youth. I did experience a mini-dark age around the time my son was born, thanks to a lack of funds. The last set before that era was 4493 - MINI Sith Infiltrator. Fortunately it only lasted a year and a half, but I missed some really nice Star Wars sets in that time frame. Quote
-zenn Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 UFO 6999 Cybersaucer... And I just can't wait for that new alien theme btw. Quote
dr_spock Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 The 6361 crane on the right. 4 wide sweetness. Quote
Fugazi Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Interesting topic. I wonder if for some people there is a relation between the last set they bought and the dark age happening in the first place! For me, the last set was certainly not a very exciting one: 1867 (400 piece Basic Bucket) ! I wanted basic bricks as I was planning to bulk up my last pre-dark age 'MOC' (see here) but it never happened. Sex, drugs and rock'n roll took over! Quote
richthelegodude Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 My last set was the barcode truck It really did nothing for me as a technic fan, compared to some of the previous flag ships it was a bit lacklustre IMO . Plus I was at the self conscious age where I thought LEGO was no longer cool (complete nonsense lol). Quote
peterab Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 My last set before my dark age was 375 the yellow castle, and it was a Christmas present. I got distracted by high school and computers, and it took me till 1995 to get back into LEGO. I'm glad I still have my old stuff but I missed a lot of nice sets while I was away. Quote
Zorbas Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Interesting. The year was 1991 or 1992, I was 12-13 years old and my brother brought me this as a gift from a trip of his: Still have it, still love it and still one of my all time favorite LEGO sets. That was the last set I got only months before entering dark ages. At least I went down in style. Quote
sci-fi Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) this was the last set i brought, before i stopped in order to try other hobbies/pastimes, which included PC Gaming, warhammer and paintball. Although i am still a paintballer, i only got my old lego out by chance, being the paintball off season and needing something to do over xmas. Now im back to building plus as i have said to myself on many occasions i have the means to buy any lego set when i want it (means being i have my own money and not asking my 'rents) wish i could go back and buy more of them clones <3 Edited January 29, 2011 by sci-fi Quote
eti Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I remember buying the Fabuland bunny when I was 11 (I was into Fabuland, big time. I didn't have much sense of what was supposed to be cool). Not sure if I got or bought anything after that until a few years ago. Quote
BasOne Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Last set before the dark age.... It`s still complete, sitting atop of my closet, never been taken apart since being put together, which was.. 15-16 years ago... I do think i should check if the batteries are ok though.... (going to do that right now...) Quote
Sahi Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Well, not bought, but bought for me Loved this set to bits, still have it assembled in the garage with bits and pieces broken off over time. Quote
NickRad Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 The Prince of Persia army builder set, but I'm still in a dark age now Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) The #6878 ( http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=6878-1 ) with the money who I had as Befana's gift in January 1993. In my teens I was still insterested in Model Team & Technic lines sets, but what I wanted (#8880, to do an example) was so expensive ... Edited February 4, 2011 by Plastic Nurak Quote
iElkie Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I don't think I actually bought it though. It probably was a gift because, as a kid, I rarely bought toys myself. Yet my parents have always been very 'pro-Lego' so I got it for birthdays, Christmas,... I really liked this little set. It was a nice addition to the Emergency Treatment Center that I already had. Quote
LAKAbricks Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 The last major set, I bought for a period of five to seven years was the 6597 Century Skyway . It must have been 1994 or 95. I just had to have that airport, even though I didn't play that much with LEGO anymore. But after that, I still didn't put my LEGO totally away. And I still collected the catalogues. So I won't call it a dark age per se. Quote
streifen Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 i had 2 dark ages! the 1st was in 1980. at that time was still a small boy so depended on gifts for lego. i remembered that set was a space vehicle witha yellow suited spaceman and a vehicle on many wheels and a front digger and a back "mouthpiece". after that and many years later, i got the western series back in 1996-97. it was going for a good price at the dept stores here. bought most of them except for Gold City Junction (now still hunting). the revival was in 2006 (or was it 2007?) when i saw the Modular houses. and started getting the 3 of them within 1-2 weeks( that was lucky considering the price now). and so it continued... Quote
Quarryman Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 That would have to be 8485 Control Center II, awesome set I think I bought it in 1995, as my Dark Ages started in 1996, and I spent quite a lot of time on that set before the computer-driven Dark Ages took over. Quote
MarcoB Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) This task is really hard to solve (but interesting), I'm quite sure it had something to with trains. It seems I stopped building Lego quite early (?), when I was 12 or 13. I sold everything and began to play with computers :) So my best guess is this set: Edited March 2, 2011 by MarcoB Quote
Woodland Observer Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 The last set I was bought was 8660 Arctic Rescue Unit when I was 11. It was my first and only Technic set, as even at that age I was beginning to feel the pressure of being 'too old for LEGO.' Technic was considered to be the more mature end of the LEGO spectrum, but this one had figures! I really enjoyed playing with it, but that was the (temporary) end for me and LEGO for around 15 years. Quote
Miss Kyle Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) I'll have to make a vague guess... it must have been the only set I found assembled in my parents' basement, the 1993 Technic Multi Control Set 8082: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=8082-1 Fantastic set. When I collected it the other day, I couldn't open the battery box of the "remote" anymore. I suppose liquid must have gotten into it and made the batteries rusty. Such a shame. Like Woodland, I was mostly into Technic when I grew up (to the old age of 11...). I still find it very appealing, especially considering all the wonderful gear wheels... perfect for steampunk MOCs! I guess I'll have to stock up on Technic stuff soon :D Edited March 9, 2011 by Miss Kyle Quote
Piratedave84 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Like many of you have said, mu dark ages began in a time when I could not buy Lego due to lack of funds and hence depended on gifts!!!! The last set I remember getting is the 6761 - Bandit's secret hideout I know I continued playing with Lego afterwards for a year maybe but did not receive any Lego until I emerged from my dark ages and went all out and got all the new Pirates sets. Squeezeplay Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The last one was this: http://christophermiles.com.au/images/posts/space-lego-6929.jpeg It was a gift from my mom on my 12th Birthday. I was disappointed she didn't get me the one I really wanted, which was this: http://www.hame.ca/blog2/pictures/497-1.1105158266.jpg I'm 38 now. Hindsight being what it is, I can get any set I want now, and I wouldn't have been disappointed if I knew then what I know now. Quote
Dazmundo Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I'm not sure what the exact set would have been but going by my Brickset list, it was probably one of these 6534 - Beach bandit 6646 - Screaming Patriot 6669 - Diesel Daredevil Scarely that would have been 20ish years ago!! although I have bought odd sets since then, I only ever had a Twilight it was never a Dark age D Quote
