Pet-Lego Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Now we've got the pictures... can anyone point me in the direction of which North American train this is likely to be based upon? I have no idea for train codes or names (and am not a geek) but want to start planning a couple of B units if it fits. Check post #32 Post #32 on top Quote
roamingstop Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 (edited) Check post #32 Post #32 on top My bad.. Some B units... but not in Maersk colours... so I can start designing this weekend... ;-) and in case anyone else is interested. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2373720 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BNSF_SD40-2B.jpg http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoList.aspx?mid=194 And how long until people do this? http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locopicture.aspx?id=16903 Edited February 11, 2011 by roamingstudio Quote
Toastie Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 New Pictures! as of 2/3/2011 Folks, folks. folks, now, it is a beautiful train. But hey, the GP38 was around before, major design challenges have been mastered, what is the BIG deal? I agree, that train is beautiful. But come on, where is your spirit? Let's go over this: TLC did outsmart us again by just making a new piece, we haven't had before: That gigantic carefully studded tile. You know what? It seems rather easy to make such a train when you can orchestrate the molding guys to make what you need! Has anyone tried to make a decent copy? Take the stickers apart. Hey. Come on. There are BR01 out there. LEGO is about making our own creations ... All the best, Thorsten Quote
jonwil Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 The side panels on the engine are likely one of these: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6178 then one of these turned vertically http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=6180 Quote
pinioncorp Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) To me it looks like one of these then one of these these. You are correct Jonwil, its attached at the top, and there's a white tile running along the bottom. Edited February 12, 2011 by pinioncorp Quote

Thanks for getting that clarified! Well then, I take the molding issue back. But how about making our own Maersk train then? All the pieces seem to be at hand ... stickers don't count. All the best, Thorsten Quote
hoeij Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 But how about making our own Maersk train then? All the pieces seem to be at hand ... stickers don't count. All the best, Thorsten In red it should be no problem if you have the hobby train set. But it's the color scheme that makes this train exciting. It might be not so easy to get these pieces in the right colors. I'll simply wait until this train becomes available, that's probably the most economical way to do it. Quote

All the best, Thorsten As I just started with Lego Trains last year, and missed all the great 9V stuff around the '00s, it'll be convenient to be able to buy this, also is Maersk more justified than BNSF or Santa Fe on a European layout. supersympa Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Unconfirmed report. Set now at Copenhagen Lego store. Can anyone local check it out? i will ask a friend that works close by if he can confirm on monday Quote
peterab Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 As I just started with Lego Trains last year, and missed all the great 9V stuff around the '00s, it'll be convenient to be able to buy this, also is Maersk more justified than BNSF or Santa Fe on a European layout. As far as I know the only Maersk loco's belong to US railroads and are painted under co-branding promotional agreements, so apart from Maersk being a European company there isn't much more justification. The containers themselves would be justified all over the world. I hope to buy a couple, use the containers as is, strip out the Maersk blue from the flat cars, and convert them to something justifiable on my German layout (probably by including more black or reddish brown) and use the rest as spare parts. Though they will probably be run on my clubs layout in their set form for a while first. Peter Quote
