Clone OPatra Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I believe what he means is that there are no Chinese element factories for regular-line sets. Only for extended line products such as the collectible minifigures or magnet sets and the like. Although, some accessories that debuted in the collectible minifigures are now in regular sets, but it's possible that they remolded the elements in one of the regular molding factories (still, this raises some doubt). It's absolutely not proven, though, that the elements that come in the separate baggies are from a Chinese factory, since there has been at least one set with those baggies that did not list China as a place of manufacturing. What does that amount to? Not much. It's still totally possible for the captain to have the genie leg element. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I'm not trying to be a total party-pooper here, but there's no way that 30 dollars can translate into a large, amazing ship. In SpongeBob Squarepants, the "Flying Dutchman" is not the ship's name, it is the character that is known by that name. So his ship (which doesn't have a name if I remember correctly) doesn't even have to be in the set as there are plenty of scenes in several episodes where the FD is seen without his vessel Quote
Oky Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 That's a good point, I suppose. I remember an episode where Spongebob and Patrick run around Bikini Bottom, trying to help the FD to scare people, so it's definitely a possibility that the set could just be a random little BB scene with fish people for them to scare. But on the other hand, would TLG really name a set after the character it includes? Quote

President of Brick Town Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 As seen from Brickipedia, which is sometimes unreliable, states 2 upcoming SBSP sets scheduled for 2012. Underwater Party in Bikini Bottom, sounds like a big set and The Flying Dutchman, is LEGO trying to recreate the ship? No pictures and other info. Looks weird because 2011 was the last time we are gonna see Spongebob in 3815 and 3816? Is this real? Or fake? For the mods and admins I will change the title once more info has been leaked, change title to Spongebob 2012. Quote

I hope it's real, I've always loved Spongebob - so I love the sets, even though the later ones are slightly tacky OH and FYI - Brickipedia got the info from this German Toy Shop, so it may prove legit: http://www.spielwaren-lippe.de/index.php?&redirected=1 Quote

Bricksan Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I have just got the full list of confirmed sets for 2012, including this one: LEGO 3817 The Flying Dutchman Full list here: http://bricksandbooks.co.uk/2011/2012-lego-sets/ Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 According to the set number, you can see it's exactly next to the one from the SpongeBob series, which was already rumored around a while ago and has nothing to do with Pirates nor Pirates of the Carribean theme. There is a Flying Dutchman in that series as well though I don't watch it and don't know who or what it is ... Quote
Bricksan Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Yep I got my hopes up and found out it is a spongebob set, although I had no idea as never watched it. So it is confirmed POTC lasted one year. Quote

Don't be hasty. We may have another wave yet. True, most one-off Licenses go this way, but there usually hasn't been an exclusive at the end of the road. Perhaps there's hope yet. Quote

Bricksan Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Indeed, but in any case this is old news and in the wrong forum too, so... Well I posted it in the Pirate section as I thought it was a POTC set Quote
Cammo Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 So, no Flying Dutchman for the PotC series. I guess I'll have to start collecting the Batman series Quote
Lyichir Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I'd speculated about a set like this since the Spongebob theme first showed up. In Spongebob, the Flying Dutchman refers to a ghost pirate, rather than a ghost ship (although he does have one of his own). A minifigure alone would hardly be a set, though, so perhaps the ship would be included as well, if not some other scene. Both he and the ship are a ghostly green color, so I'm not sure how they'd be best depicted in Lego. Ideally, he'd some sort of glow-in-the-dark color, although no Lego color both glows and has that rich green color. And trans-green is a no-no, seeing as Lego has confirmed that they can't make minifigs in transparent colors. I'm fairly sure he WILL be a regular minifig; they'd be wasting an opportunity if they didn't use the tail from the upcoming collectible minifig genie. I haven't gotten any Spongebob sets since the first wave, but this piques my interest and I can't wait to see pictures. Bummer for the Pirates of the Caribbean fans, though: there's no way Lego would release two differently-themed sets with the same name in the same year. Quote
Omicron Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Yep I got my hopes up and found out it is a spongebob set, Spongebob or not, I'm sure it will be a cool set. :) -Omi Quote
strangely Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I'd assume they'll base it off of his first episode appearance, meaning we'll get a Spongebob and Patrick in a scared variation, and a redesigned Mr. Krab's with scared face and the claws from the Davy Jones figure (People have complained about not having proper claws long enough, it only seems reasonable that Lego would fix it). The Flying Dutchman will be standard minifigure, I'd guess they'd use glow in the dark for the head, tail piece (I agree, they will use that genie tail) and hands. Based on price they'll probably give us a small boat of some kind, either the Dutchman's or the tiny boat Mr. Krab's was using in that particular episode. Generally each set is based loosely on a particular episode, so this is what I expect. But you can never tell for sure which direction TLG will go. Either way I'm excited! Quote

Aanchir Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 While that would be great, we all know Lego would make it in lime instead. :P -Omi Or Bright Green, a not-too-new color but one that's been used prominently in some recent sets (like the Heroica set Waldurk Forest, or the collectible Lizard Suit Guy minifigure). I think Bright Green is a much closer match to the Flying Dutchman in the episodes where he appears, so here's hoping they end up going with something like that. If the set does include his ship, then it might have glow-in-the-dark details of some sort. TLG has done glow-in-the-dark detail pieces quite recently in the Diagon Alley set, and while this would have to use the color a lot more prominently there's probably no reason they'd outright avoid including the color in a set when it's a gimmick that never gets old. 22kane Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Thanks for the info. I can't wait to see this new police/ fire forest line. Good work. Quote
strangely Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 I don't know about lime green, he is a ghost and lime green is too obnoxious for a restless spirit. Plus they've really stepped up the quality over the years so I'm sure the end result will be perfectly acceptable. Quote

Cammo Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 hehe, yes poor me. I justed started collecting Lego again and what do they do. They cancel my first collected theme after just one wave. Ah well, I'm sure they continue the Potc theme when the 5th movie is out. To stay on topic. Will the Flying Dutchman guy glow in the dark? Quote
badboytje88 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 They could use the genie tail from the collectable minifigs serie 6 for the ghost of the flying dutchman. Quote
