Demag TC2800

Hello!

I wanted to introduce You my first MOC - minifig scale lattice boom mobile crane: Terex-Demag TC2800. My inspiration to build this model were phenomenal telescopic cranes built by M-Longer. I have been building it for 5 months with some breaks when I was waiting for my Bricklink orders.

Carrier is 56 x 9 x 10 studs. As original crane, my TC has 7 axles with Ackermann steering geometry. Also it have pendular suspension on all 8 axles. This solution is „borrowed” from M_Longer, but trust me it’s nearly impossible to find another way to build it functionally and strong in 6 studs width. You can easily steer it by the spare wheel at the back.

Telescopic outriggers are transported assembly. They make a square 40 x 40 studs. In fact crane isn’t only based on them, the stability is assured by four prolonged gudgeon pins witch are linking base with outriggers.

The photo of all Demag parts and building scene with smaller City crane.

Unfortunately those yellow boom elements are very tricky. Axles 2 have to much space and boom curved when i wanted to pull down it. So I tied main boom with fishing line. Ties are made of yellow string- in my opinion they look much better than made of bricks, what’s more they are much cheaper. There is about 50 meters of string in this model!

As real one it can be modified to every boom combination, I’ve decided to build this most spectacular one (My crane is 278 cm tall!). Of course you can set up every boom and jib by the black knobs in the left side of superstructure. Also it can rotate 360 degree. Unfortunately there aren’t any PF motors, so everything you have to do by yourself.

Demag is extremely vulnerable to side collapse. During the construction of it, my model have fallen for about 10 times, so I’ve destroyed a lot of axles 2;)

There are all superstructure, central and additional counterweights made of bricks and coins. It allows to lower the boom to about 40 degrees. I really don’t know what the maximum load is, but you can see that it can easily rise 211 grams city bridge and 350 grams tower. Coins, nails and strong are only non lego elements used in my model.

At the end I wanted to mention, that building this monster was a great fun, but I had a few moments when I wanted to quit. However I’m absolutely sure it was worth it.

Last but not last,Big Blue scene.

Hope You enjoyed my model.

Welcome to Eurobrick. That's an impressive Terex-Demag crane. I've seen it on Brickshelf a few days ago. It is nice to have its creator here. :classic:

Nice, does it still exist, or was it taken apart for pieces?
