Cinderbike Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 So me and my girlfriend went garage sale hunting this morning. A lot of JUNK. However, one of the places had a bin of legos and some other junk toys. Anyway, bought it and took it home, cleaned it off, threw away the non-LEGO toys (mostly hot wheels, but they were really beat up and rusted). I got about 200 pieces for a dollar, and to my surprise found one of the brimmed hats (from Indiana Jones and Adventurers) but in RED. I'd never seen a red one, so a quick BrickLink search showed that it appears to be a prototype piece, worth about $20. Talk about a needle in a LEGO stack! Thought I'd share my story. Quote
Big Cam Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Congrats on the find, it makes me wonder how the garage sale owner came into possession of it? Quote
buddy Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 That is a great find indeed , but I too wonder how that piece came into their possession? ~buddy~ Quote
Cinderbike Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 Yeah, I have no idea. I would think it snuck it's way into a retail box unknowingly, but you would think such a highly automated factory would prevent something like that from happening. Quote
Siegfried Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I got about 200 pieces for a dollar, and to my surprise found one of the brimmed hats (from Indiana Jones and Adventurers) but in RED. But they're not the same hat.... Which one was it? (I'm assuming the older type.) In any case great deal! Quote
Cinderbike Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 But they're not the same hat.... Which one was it? (I'm assuming the older type.) In any case great deal! That's my fault - the Indy theme was from my dark ages and I'd just assumed they were the same hat. But yes, it's the older one, on the right. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 It's actually not a prototype piece. The hat came in red in a Coca-Cola promotional, this one: It is rare, but it was supposed to be released. Also, in the future, stuff like this goes in the Lucky LEGO Finds over in Buy/Sell/Trade. We don't want too many single-story topics popping up in Community. Quote
