Posted January 29, 201114 yr Hello, today I want to present you my tank truck. It features the same color scheme as my snowplough truck and has other similar details. I build it shortly after it. I like the 3180 Tank Truck LEGO released last year, but it is too large to reach all arears in a town. So this one will deliver heating oil to my town citizen and is much smaller. One problem I have with the official set are the holes in the large curved slope bricks that are used to build the tank. It just looks a bit odd. I tried to hide them in my model, but didn't succeeded completely. Anyway, let pictures speak ;-) Edit: If you like it, you can build your own one using the pictures in this Brickshelf folder. Enjoy! January 30, 201114 yr Great Just Like your snow truck design in some ways! I really like the Brake Lights
January 30, 201114 yr I really like the idea of this smaller version of the tank truck intended to reach the small town streets. You did well shortening the truck but still maintaining a realistic delivery capacity for the tank. It's also nice to see the consistent Octan color scheme. Great model once again Sleepie!
January 30, 201114 yr That is a nice looking tank truck with a lot of details and a great color scheme. I especially like the mirrors.
January 30, 201114 yr Nice LDD job there 'Sleepie', now that one I want to see brick-built ! I also like the tail lights and mudflap idea.......keep on creating and Brick On 'Sleepie' !
January 30, 201114 yr Very nice truck you have made there Its small but very nice looking and full of details. Very well done. You didnt use LDD for this one didnt you? Because the truck looks more better than the LDD version. Captain Becker EDIT: You have any instructions how to make this? Edited January 30, 201114 yr by Captain Becker
January 30, 201114 yr Author @all: Thank you very much for your kind comments. You didnt use LDD for this one didnt you? Because the truck looks more better than the LDD version. Yes, I don't use LDD at all ;-) My toolset for digital building is LDraw + MLCad + LDView + POV-Ray. EDIT: You have any instructions how to make this? Do you mean the model or how I created the render? Regards, Sleepie
February 2, 201114 yr Great MOC! It looks realistic and is detailed. I too like like the idea of having a smaller tank truck, instead of a large one like 3180. Very well done. ~buddy~
February 2, 201114 yr Do you mean the model or how I created the render? Both ctually, but mainly the model. I think at i might make this truck also in real bricks but i need the instructions of course Captain Becker
February 18, 201114 yr Author Both ctually, but mainly the model. I think at i might make this truck also in real bricks but i need the instructions of course Captain Becker Hi Captain, sorry for the late reply, but real life occupied all my time lately. I'll add some instruction pictures to my brickshelf folder soon, maybe on the upcoming weekend if time permits. Possibly I can than also take some pictures of the brick-built model. I'll post an update when the pictures are online, so please be patient and check back in few days. The rendered pictures are created with POV-ray. So the first step is to build the model with MLCad and than use LDView to export it to a pov-file. LDView is imho a must-have tool for everyone who uses CAD-Tools that are using the LDraw parts library. It has many neat functions for fast rendering LDraw models, creating part lists, screenshots and exporting to various formats. It can also automatically search and download updates of unofficial parts used in a model and many other things. If you have any further questions, just let me know. Cheers, Sleepie

The folder isn't moderated yet, but should be public within the next 24 hours normally. Happy building! Sleepie Edited March 2, 201113 yr by Sleepie
March 1, 201113 yr I tried to get my models into POV Ray on the weekend, but the only instructions I could find were from 2006 and the software I needed wasn't available or didn't work :( I also made a smaller version of that truck using the model as a base point and extra parts from two of the Toy Story Army Man jeeps! I want to tear it down and start over after seeing this though :/
March 1, 201113 yr Very nice design Sleepie! I wonder how the truck could be with yellow, red and white colours ...and maybe a Shell logo

I'm using LDView to generate the *.pov files from my LDraw models. It works like a charm, just play a bit with it, you'll like it. Another good resource with lots of tips & tricks around the LDraw tools is http://www.holly-wood.it/. Good luck! Very nice design Sleepie! I wonder how the truck could be with yellow, red and white colours ...and maybe a Shell logo Thank you. I have already something like that in mind, but the Shell version will have a brick-built tank and other tweaks. Cheers, Sleepie Edited March 2, 201113 yr by Sleepie

I will have to find time to have another go at it! I worked on my truck again tonight and it looks much better now! Originally I had the hose/storage are on the top area between the cab and the tank., and had 2 wheels at the back instead of the one. I re-worked it tonight and it looks much cuter this way! Oh, my camera also make it look dark green too!! March 2, 201113 yr Well this is not a revolutionary, but this very good! Simple but good! Thanks! Good job
