Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) My newest MOC: Story: And so the local Alchemist guild decided to finally turn something into gold; they realized that it was entertainment. All they needed was superstition and a few professionals. They hired craftsmen to build props, actors to play the role of wizards, builders to erect a temple and numerous other skilled entertainers to put on the greatest show in the Kingdom! The scheme works like this: 1) Craftsmen create the "magic items" and special effects 2) Actors put on a show with the help of Concealed puppeteers and wranglers 3) Citizens pay for the "magic elixir" brewed at the temple in gold and are entertained and wooed by the display of magic. They believe it's magic power can solve all problems, big and small. 4) The gold is then melted down and cast into bars which are shipped off to fund the dragon knight's campaign. But enough talk, here's the pictures: Temple/workshop "Wizards": Gold Smith: Alchemy Lab: Magic Props: The building: Guard dog: Also more there: MOC Pages This one is a bit elaborate and a lot of thought went into each section. thomassio Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) that's a very nice moc! I like the cheeseslope roof. I actually like everything of it. Edited January 30, 2011 by thomassio Quote
Gregorovich Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 That's amazing! The alchemy lab looks spectacular with all the tubes and pipes, and the building itself is beautiful. I love everything about it. Well done, and thanks for sharing! Quote
RoryoCox Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Excellent. This is a really well thought out MOC with some lovely little features. The front facade of the building looks great and I like the cut-away effect at the side. Also, I like the minifigure choice. Thanks for Sharing Quote
Plissken Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Very impressive, so many lovely details. I really like the roof. The new 2011 parts (dog, bone) are very useful. Good work. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I love the idea, and you pulled it off perfectly as an MOC. All the little details are great. Quote
iamded Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Great MOC, and awesome back story and idea behind it! I like the stained glass windows, and that guard dog with his kennel is an awesome little addition. Good stuff. Quote
Hartfan Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Nice story and amazing details. Love this MOC ! Quote
mcfarlandman Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Looks so fun and lively! Great idea and perfectly executed. Just add the mad scientist's flask when series 4 hits. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Excellent MOC Sirens-Of-Titan! Like the others, I love the checkered cheese-sloped roof finish, and the plethora of details throughout the build is simply outstanding. Truly an impressive work! Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Thank you all, I appreciate the comments! As far as I am aware that roof design is my own invention although that could be a really big statement to make if it isn't so I will say I haven't seen it before and it's new to me. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 AWESOME creation 'Sirens-Of-Titan'......the birth of chemistry.....gee, what made kings feel they could have gold made from anything else eh ? Excellent lab and the exterior is fantastic - I'm a conformist! 'Sirens-Of-Titan' ! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 A very vibrant bustling scene. Lovely action and accesories for the characters help to lift the run-down nature of the building. My only gripe is the thickness of the stone wall, it kind of feels stuck between too thick for a wall and not thick enough for two walls and an interior. The cheese roof is quite nice as well. Quote
Hemish Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Thats superb, the little details in there are amazing Quote
The Undo Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Very, very, very beautiful MOC, and the backstory is a nice touch to bring extra life to this creation, as well one's imagination. I also love the roof red & white pattern since I'm croatian. Quote

Thank you ISC! I appreciate the feedback! It's a bit funny how my buildings don't adhere to normal dimensions; I'm getting better at it, and will have a normal thickness wall in the next one. Thank you omerai! I'm glad you like the story; some MOC's are self explanatory but this one has so much going on people would think everyone's nuts without one. I like writing backgrounds, it adds to the world and scene and I intend to keep doing it whenever I build a MOC. I did not know that I was paying homage to Croatian Architecture, it makes me proud that i did, I will call that "Croatian Roof design" from now Quote

So if you ever see a men wearing a red & white square pattern t-shirt, you'll know he's Croatian. Quote
Athos Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I like the cheese slope roof. Can you explain/show how you did it? Steve Quote
Sirens-of-Titan Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) I like the cheese slope roof. Can you explain/show how you did it? Steve Hello Steve, The technique is quite simple but looks impressive: You take plates of whatever length you want your roof to be and 2 studs wide (this is very important as other widths don't layer up so nicely). You build them in a stepwise pattern ( one stud overlapped lengthwise) until you have what looks like rally short steps. The highest step is a row of (Plate Modified 1 x 2 with Door Rail) facing out to give the appearance of a gutter and to cover the seam between the roof and wall. You then cover the whole thing with cheese slopes in whatever pattern you like. That's the nice part it's literally a mosaic of slopes and it looks like shingles! (Beware this eats up parts like you wouldn't believe it! (Just for that little bit of roof I need over a hundred and for my previous build I used close to 500) The final part is to put a hinge underneath it and find a place to anchor it, but this is pretty self explanatory. The reason I overlap them like steps is because the slopes don't look natural on the same plane, and one plate difference between each row gives just the right amount of overhang for them to look right. I hope this helps, PM me if you still have questions. Edited February 3, 2011 by Sirens-Of-Titan Quote

KristofBD Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Excellent MOC! I like the story and the multiple 'stages'. The dog is also very nice. Good job! Quote
SirSven7 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Fantastic Moc I love the way the front of the building is all grand and opulent, but the back and sides look a little negliected, (because the front is where they make there money) Also the dog is cool. Quote
