The Yellow Brick Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) So, This is my first modular building I've built in LDD and I tried to make it just like the real sets. It has 2470 peices alltogether similar to the real sets, and I think it's abit to tall Anyway I don't know what the bottom floor is at the moment, but the 2nd and 3rd floor are just a appartments. So here it is a Modular building Just like any other MOC, C & C welcome Oh and almost forgot, the price is..... £331.72 Edited January 30, 2011 by The Red Brick Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Really Cool! Thats a lot of Euros Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 That is a great building. The color scheme works well. I especially like the choice of color for the awning on the ground level; it compliments the warm colors of the building quite nicely. The use of green horns is a a unique touch. Not to worry about the size: It fits well in line with the three floor standard. Its height is only slightly taller than the GG. The only thing that looks a bit off is the clock on top. I think a bigger, brick-built clock might work better with the scale. Some ideas for the first floor can be a furnished lobby if the apartments are intended to be higher end and more luxurious. There can perhaps be a mail room, a security/check in desk, and lounge area. [inspiration: http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=luxury+apartment+lobby&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1680&bih=949]... Be sure to catalog your progress as it comes along. It looks very promising already! And be sure to post a LDD file (if you have one) in the LDD user MOC topic for everyone's enjoyment. Thats a lot of Euros You mean a lot of pounds? Yes, it's quite expensive (= $526 USD; €387 euros). Even so, the prospect entices me to ask: any chance you will build this with real bricks in the future? Quote
LegoFan03 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I like it a lot! Great job, Red Brick! Quote
Hinckley Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Great job, The Red Brick. I love the front facade, especially the curved columns. It's really stunning. I think the clock tower is a bit out of place and under-whelming. Perhaps consider making it more of a feature of the building. I think a clock would fit well, but it's so tiny, it looks like an after thought. I really love the building overall. It's very creative and fits in so well with the LEGO Modular sets. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing. Quote
AussieJimbo Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Top job, TRB. Cool design. :classic: Quote
streifen Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 everything about this MOC is real great & cool! except the price. i like the colour scheme!! Quote
the-bricking-builder Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Maybe on the first floor a flower shop or a post office Can you please make some interior pictures? Quote

Thank you for your kind words Hinckley and Mr.Lego-Builder, I do agree with you about the clock, I will be replacing it with somthing else soon. Maybe a sign or a bigger brick build clock as you suggested. Oh and I have turned the ground floor into a small flower shop the-bricking-builder, which makes the number of peices 2680 and the price £352.80 . And some new pictures of the interior will be up soon. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Maybe on the first floor a flower shop or a post office Can you please make some interior pictures? Yeah, a post office on the ground floor......a post office now where have I seen that similar curved brick work ? Yeah, a small post office but where ? Very nice indeed 'The Red Brick', the ground floor is my favorite.......so are you going to brick build it ? In any case, keep on LDDing ! Quote

Thank you Lightningtiger, I wont be brick building it yet. Might do sometime in the future when I have the money to buy the bricks Now here are the pictures- I decided to turn it into a flower shop, Don't know why but it suits the building more. (IMO) The second floor with a small kitchen, Sofa and dinning table. The top floor, Which has a double bed, a TV and a small toilet (no shower or bath though, Couldn't fit one in) So there are the interior shot's. C & C welcome Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Well, I'm even more impressed with your interior work 'The Red Brick' ! The pieces that impresses me the most the bed and the flower shop area ! Keep on LDDing still 'The Red Brick' ! Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 This is an excellent LDD Modular Building MOC The Red Brick, very impressive digital designing! The external architecture is regal-looking and the details are just wonderful both inside and out. It's also interesting to point out how the advanced LDD graphics make the intricate details of the building stand out more. I'm certainly looking forward seeing this realized in real brickbuild in the near future. Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Thank you Lightningtiger and KielDaMan for your kind words. The new graphics really do look great. Quote
Tabris Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Very nice. If you ever build it, please share it with us. Quote
L@go Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I design my MOCs with MLCad, but I've never managed to grow comfortable with LDD. I have to say, though, that creations made with LDD do look stunning with those lighting effects. Of course the MOC still needs to be good - and this one is. The details are great, and as others have already pointed out, the colours work really well. I would also love to see this brick-built - but I know how that can hurt a wallet :) Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) Very nice. If you ever build it, please share it with us. Yes I will share it someday if it ever gets built in real bricks. I design my MOCs with MLCad, but I've never managed to grow comfortable with LDD. I'll have to try it someday . Edited January 31, 2011 by The Red Brick Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) As some of you pointed out, the small clock ontop looked abit out of place. So I have decided to remove the clock and replace it with a sign. A close up of the sign The back of the sign Oh and here is an extra shot showing the back of the shop Edited February 6, 2011 by The Red Brick Quote
MightySlickPancake Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 What a superb job you did Red Brick . The whole feal of the building is awesome and the interior is great. I do also love the advanced graphics. I do hope you make it for real . Thanks, CB Quote
Vincent Kessels Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 That is a good looking building. My only comment would be that the ground floor should be higher. The ground floor of my buildings are always 1 or 2 bricks higher then the other floors. That makes it much more realistic. Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) Beautiful work. Can you give any instructions to install MLCad? Regards Edited January 31, 2011 by The Player Nº1 Quote

The ground floor of my buildings are always 1 or 2 bricks higher then the other floors. That makes it much more realistic. Thank you for your comments everybody. I would make the bottom floor anit higher but it might make the whole building too tall. Beautiful work. Can you give any instructions to install MLCad? Regards You may want to check the LDD forum, Because I have no idea on how to install it. Quote
L@go Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Can you give any instructions to install MLCad? Just to avoid any misunderstandings: The Red Brick didn't use MLCad to create this - it's designed in LDD. MLCad is an entirely different Lego building program, which is based on the LDraw parts catalog. That's what I use to make my MOCs. You can find the LDraw website here, and a link to installing MLCad can be found on the bottom of this page. Notice that MLCad won't work unless you've first installed LDraw - and the parts catalog - on your computer. MLCad is just a program designed to facilitate the use of LDraw. For further information, try the 'Get Started' menu on the left of any LDraw page. I won't be of much more help, I'm afraid, as it's been so long since I installed the programs on my own computer that I don't remember much of the process anymore. Hope this helps you. Quote
alois Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I like the overall design of this building very much, and you should put it into bricks, but I agree with Vincent Kessels that the ground floor should be a little bit higher, not only for realism but also to give the building taller looks. It now looks a little bit as if the upper floors are weighing too heavy on the poor little ground floor. Quote
Gregorovich Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Beautiful building, The Red Brick! Both the interior and the exterior look amazing. It would be excellent if this was made into a real set, it would fit right in with the others. I particularly like the big flower sign, the windows and the bed. Very, very good work, and thanks for sharing it with us! Quote
