Not to mention most Spraypaint Oranges don't even come close to matching the orange LEGO uses. Mike Quote
Blakbird Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Wow, this thread rocks. So let's say I'm a Lego noob - just getting into it again after 30 years of exploring hobbies, what's the best way of accumulating the needed parts to build all the five models? Our local LUG is doing a LUGBRICK order soon, maybe I'll have to see about getting a number of these parts. I'd hate to have to take apart my Silver Champ and BMW F1 cars though. I'd recommend starting my downloading and learning the Ldraw system of tools. I've made CAD files of all of these models, so you can see how the model goes to together, what some building steps are, and what parts it uses. You can download all of the CAD files. You can import those files into Brickstore which will tell you what parts you need. You can then export a wanted list to Bricklink and order the parts. I already have Brickstore files for all of these models which I'd be happy to share. LUGBULK won't do you any good because they never order Technic parts and you need a very wide variety of parts, some of which are rare. Bricklink is the way to go. You can actually download full instructions for the Gallardo, the Little Devil, and NK's supercar. I don't have time to post all the links right now, but I bet someone will! Quote

Thanks David. That's actually not the Supercar instructions I was thinking of. Those instructions are by NK but they are only for the chassis. After he and I finished the CAD file, someone else posted PDF instructions of the whole thing. I never remember where that link is, but I have the file. Quote
AndroTech Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Blakbird, did you ment these instructions. Quote
Blakbird Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Blakbird, did you ment these instructions. No. That's the "Silver Sportscar", this simplest of Nathanael Kuipers' 3 alternate models of 8457. The next more complicated is the "GT Car". The most complicated (which is what we are discussing) is the "Supercar" which also requires the parts from 8466. NK never did full instructions for this, but somebody did, and they were posted in a thread here on Eurobricks. Quote

TechnicJuan Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 The Murcielago model really does look amazing Blakbird. That is probably my favorite pure technic car yet. I haven't finished mine yet because I am missing many parts. Do you know if Paul has seen yours yet? Quote
Taiphun Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Thanks Blakbird! Here's the link to the Supercar: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CHVVWTZR Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I'd like to build every model that you displayed (together with the others in the background ), but my wallet doesn't agree . Quote
Jurgen Krooshoop Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Building it in red would be quite easy, but why do that? I don't think you will see anyone selling copies of this on eBay in yellow. Much too hard to make. That's too bad because yellow is perfect. You're so right: Yellow is perfect. But I had to chose between building it in red and not building it al all, cause of the rare yellow parts. So I chose to build it in red. At least now I know that it's a really good model. I don't know why color is so important to a supercar, since they should be mostly about function, but somehow I'm sick of red. The new red 8070 is a great model, but I wish it was any other color. Yellow would be cool, blue would be fantastic, I'd even take black. And let's not forget orange. To see what the color can do, compare these pictures of Skyliner's Lambo Countach in both black and orange. You can't build the orange one, but which do you like better? Most definately Orange !! To bad there are no instructions for the Countach. I consider it a great honour if other people build my models. Makes me smile to see pictures of them. Wouldn't it be great if we would all be able to build this model ? Quote

buddy Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Excellent car collection, they all look great. Very well done. ~buddy~ Edited February 5, 2011 by buddy Quote
DLuders Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) @ Jurgen Krooshoop: You can get Skyliner's Building Instructions for his Lego Technic Lamborghini Countach on this eBay listing. I bought mine for GBP 12.99 (~ US $20.86), and the CD came from the UK to the Pacific Northwest of the USA quickly. The PDF instructions are well done, and he provides a Parts List. I am still accumulating the needed parts for this, and have not built it with real bricks yet. Here is the "wallpaper" rendering on shlomi-gondabi's Brickshelf folder: Edited February 6, 2011 by DLuders Quote
Plastic Nurak Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) My positive feelings about this model are confirmed by the picture above . But I noticed that I still don't have got some of the parts required . I'll wait . Edited February 6, 2011 by Plastic Nurak Quote
skyliner Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) Top collection Blakbird, where do you find the time??? for all this building and CAD! The countach is also in my brickshelf folder skyliners brickshelf folder countach instructions can be emailed, if you contact me. Not a CAD file but sequential photos of how to build in pdf, with parts list. I have revised the pdfs so they are now printable. Edited February 6, 2011 by skyliner Quote

I don't want to seem harsh, but how can anyone warrant selling instructions for this? I mean it's ok, but also very flawed because it appears that most of the parts are forced together and do not fit properly. I would think if you spend that much money for instructions, the model should be properly constructed. Quote

I do not force people to buy them. Perhaps you should build the model? confirm if it is as flawed as your expert eye predicts? skyliner Quote
MarcusB Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I think the model is ok Skyliner, I am just saying that you can clearly see where the parts are forced together in places and pulling apart in other places and have slack between them. I just don't see how you could feel comfortable charging someone for instructions for a model that is not really at true specs. Quote
legolijntje Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) As I said before, the cars are great, but the background looks also very cool Can you make photos of your "normal set" collection too? Edited February 6, 2011 by legolijntje Quote

It fits together well. However you need to build it to see that. Quote

I just don't see how you could feel comfortable charging someone for instructions for a model that is not really at true specs. I'm not sure where you get the idea that anything is forced together. I built a CAD file of the whole thing and it all fits together in a perfectly normal fashion except for two liftarms on the rear window which are stressed. That's two out of 1300 parts. As for charging, no one has to buy it if they don't like it. Personally, I like it or I would not have spent so much time on it. Quote
