Posted February 3, 201114 yr I currently have the King Leo's Castle that's about 11 years old. I kinda want a REAL castle. Something that has like a few thousand parts but I know there's no castle available in the market that fits the description. So what do you guys think is the best castle?

Vlad's Castle from Brickmania Or his new castle from Brickmania That will keep you buzy for a few days
February 3, 201114 yr Author Nice but I was actually referring to castles released by TLG :P. Nice creations are welcomed though! :D

February 3, 201114 yr 6080 King's Castle and 6086 Black Knight's Castle, for sure. 6090 is cool, too, although I never liked the Royal Knights. 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress is the quintessential castle/fortress, I guess. I really like the new 7946 King's Castle. If I had to pick one, I guess I'd get 6080. And 6086. And 6074... ;) I have a brief analysis in this thread. Edited February 3, 201114 yr by Artifex
February 3, 201114 yr If you want a really big officially released castle you can combine a few sets to make a really big one. Combining http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6073-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6061-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6074-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6062-1 And maybe http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6040-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6041-1 http://brickset.com/detail/?Set=6067-1 That should make one quite impressive castle, but it is definitely not an easy or a cheap option. February 3, 201114 yr Like most of the people here, my favorites are 6086 Black Knight's Castle & 6090 Royal Knight's Castle. Really beautifully designed castles with lots of great features, figures and accessories. For the fan made castles, I've seen many great designs on brickshelf (lots of them have topic here on eurobricks), and I can't say which would be the best, 'cuz they're all breathtaking and unique.
February 3, 201114 yr 6074 - for big castle MOCs the corner panel is much more interesting than the flat window panel and 12 in one castle is top The fact that grey is more comfortable than black is obvious to me. And final the black double convex 75° slope + top ... perfect.
February 3, 201114 yr It's interesting to see that everyone is recommending the Castles from the 80's, there have been lots since but the 80's are still the best. If you want a really big officially released castle you can combine a few sets to make a really big one. Easy for me I have just reclaimed my childhood Lego from my parents and I have all of those sets apart from 6074 I never was a fan of that one! D
February 4, 201114 yr I think 7094 is the best of the modern era castles, along with 10176, which might be hard to find. You can't go wrong with the newest castle (7946) or any of the old ones, especially the ones listed above
February 4, 201114 yr I happen to agree with everyone of the above statements. 7946 is a great one that I can also vouch for.
February 4, 201114 yr It might just be nostalgia talking, but my favourite castle is for sure Royal Knight's Castle. My very first Lego castle. So many great things about that set, so much playability, great minifigs, great parts.
February 6, 201114 yr 6086 and 6090 have always been two of my favorites. if I could find both and could afford it I would have them, I always wanted them but I never could get my hands on them. One day, I'll have them.
February 6, 201114 yr It might just be nostalgia talking, but my favourite castle is for sure Royal Knight's Castle. My very first Lego castle. So many great things about that set, so much playability, great minifigs, great parts. This was also my first castle. I ended up buying 13 copies of it. Initially, I was a bit turned off by the goofy lion head, especially since there were still Crusader/Black Falcon sets sometimes still on the shelves at the time. The castle itself was great and I felt the need to populate it will a lot of minifigs. Thus began my compulsion. :)
February 7, 201114 yr 6074!!! /No doubt about it!!!! I always found it great. Small, with few pieces, yet, a real castle. A statement of how you don't need 10 thousand pieces to make a beautiful castle. I really wished TLG gave us this kind of small castles instead of the current crappy towers!!! (this set has about the same number of pieces as the current Dragon Knights tower, yet, it's a closed castle!!!)

I totally agree! one of the reasons I'm tempted to buy nanoblocks! their big sets are "real" buildings. The only problem is their selection of colors. Lego looks way more vibrant.
February 7, 201114 yr holy shit. 13 copies?!?!? did you mod it into a big castle by any chance? Now THAT is an interesting question! If you didn't, now you HAVE to, for your Eurobrick friends out here! (if by any chance you need help, let us know and we'll drop by... )
February 8, 201114 yr It might just be nostalgia talking, but my favourite castle is for sure Royal Knight's Castle. My very first Lego castle. So many great things about that set, so much playability, great minifigs, great parts. That base plate is to die for! Does anyone know where I could get that base plate, along with some other interesting ones?
February 8, 201114 yr That base plate is to die for! Does anyone know where I could get that base plate, along with some other interesting ones? Ebay or Bricklink for, like, a GAZILLION bucks, whatever currency they are selling it... I've been looking for it for some time now...
February 9, 201114 yr I only have the Fantasy Castle era and Kingdoms casltes and I have to say I prefer the Fantasy-era version - I like the dragon as siege weapon (the poor Dragon knights in the new castle have no chance lacking even a catapult), the fact that the king is looking out over his domain rather than facing the rear and it was a much less repetitious build - the only interesting thing about building the new castle was the gatehouse! I really wanted the original yellow castle as a kid but my allowance only went as far as the pitiful Knight's Procession... Edited February 9, 201114 yr by TeufelHund
February 13, 201114 yr After looking at the suggestions here, I have to say I really like the Black Knight's Castle and Royal Knight's Castle. Wow. I don't know if I've ever seen those before. Now I want them too As for modern castles, I really like the fantasy era castle. It looks way, way better than King Leo's Castle, which I think was a big flop (I mean, honestly, there's holes in the walls at the side...). I also like the fantasy era in general. I've been considering taking LDD and building myself a custom castle and then ordering the parts on Bricklink (too expensive to order from LEGO directly). Would probably be cheaper than buying any of the aforementioned sets...hmm...

So many great things about that set, so much playability, great minifigs, great parts. Yes, yes, yes! That still is the best castle. I'm not a fan of the big baseplate, though. The 'Fantasy-Era-castle-style' of not having a baseplate would have been better, in my opinion.
