C-sections arn't that bad, but still, nothings better the having a natural birth, with that I hope everything goes well, and My prayers will be with you tonight, I'll also ask my Gia Gia (greek for grandma) to pray for you at the church tomorrow. I wouldn't worry to much, I think everything will turn out okay.

oh, and have you thought of any names yet?

My mum had to have a cesarean too. I always did cause trouble.

I hope everything goes well!

My Mum had to have 3 caesareans, me as the second. :classic: Two weren't even completely necessary.

I swear most people who have replied here had birth problems. :look:

I was a breech baby, too. C-section! It's not too bad. I do hope that your wife doesn't have to do it and can have a natural birth, though. Good luck!

First off, congrats on your new baby! Secondly, good luck with the C-section. Anyways it's not a problem, just a slight inconvenience. I was born with a C-section too. It seems people born through a C-section have a higher chance of being a FOL!

So here's an update. We had an appointment today and the baby is still pointed the wrong way. We're going to the hospital early tomorrow morning and they're going to try turning the baby around from the outside. If that is successful (and it's supposed to be 50% of the time), they will probably induce then. If it isn't and no immediate danger crops up, they will schedule a c-section later in the week.

My wife's really hoping that tomorrow will be it. Her stretch marks have stretch marks and she's reached the point where she just wants him out.

I'm sort of glad we know for sure we're going to the hospital tomorrow. For the past week, I've been stressed out worrying that her water will break and I won't get her to the hospital on time. The nearest hospital that does deliveries is about 30 min away and with all the snow we've been getting, I've been going a little nuts. To top it off, when we went to the car to go to the appointment today, I found we had a flat tire.

Good luck, I hear that isn't a pleasant procedure. Either way your wife is going to need a lot of support. Both of our children were born by emergency C-Section, and while everything turned out fine both experiences were stressful (the first even gave me Post-traumatic stress for a few weeks). Women put a lot of pressure on themselves to plan out what to them would be the perfect birth experience, and put a lot of blame on themselves when things don't go according to plan. This can also lead to an increased risk of post-partum depression, so you'll want to keep an eye on that, talking about things definitely helps.

If it is going to be a C-Section, you can write a birth plan for that too, but double-check with the doctor and hospital on what is or isn't allowed. For example, for my first child only I was allowed in the OR with my wife, and no video only still photos. Also, I couldn't photograph anything on the other side of the surgical drape. The second birth was a different doctor and hospital, and the anesthesiologist, who also happened to be an amateur photographer, volunteered to take photos for me. So very different situations.

Edit: By the way, my second was born three years ago today, so it's a good day to have a baby! Good luck again! :classic:

Inducing labor sounds scary, but it's a heck of a lot less stressful on the lady. It can cut the labor period to 1/3 its normal time. In Japan, doctors seem to often recommend it (based on a few anecdotal stories I've heard)

You're bringing back some memories, my wife screaming 'itai!' (it hurts!), me holding her hand, and making an incredibly useless expression on my face. My child's birth was one of the most useless feelings I've ever had in my life.

I was going to stay out of this as I haven't has any experience with C-Sections, but I must say I did laugh lots at the last few posts. I had not even thought for one second during my pregnancy about the possibility of the baby being breech. Not until I read the first post here did it occur to me that, it could have happened to me. I think I would have freaked out completely.

I can totally understand why you would be so stressed at the moment CM. But just make sure you have the bags packed, driveway clear and car ready. And be prepared to be yelled and sworn  at and the rest is up to your wife. Try to get enough sleep now as that will not be an option in a week or so.

I was going to say how high Caesarian section rates are, and that it's very much an everyday operation these days, but that doesn't matter much if it's happening to you, and it's understandably worrying.

There's already been some good advice, and I would just add - go with the flow.

It sounds flippant, but it's not. The more you expect or hope for one outcome or another, the more stressful it becomes for you both if something different happens.

Again, all our best wishes for a happy and healthy Mum and baby, however it happens, and for a happy and relieved Daddy too.

Fingers and toes crossed.

Just checking in while I'm home to shower and pick up a few things.

They tried turning the baby and failed. We decided the C-section was the way to go. So my son. Simon Alan Conley was born yesterday morning 11:27 EST. He's 9 pounds 4 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long. No wonder we couldn't get him to turn! Both mother and baby are doing great and we hope to bring them both home in a couple of days.

His big sister came to visit already and she kept saying, "He's cute!' and "Look, baby Simon popped out of Mommy's belly!". We'll see how she is once she realizes he's gonna come home to stay with us.

Gotta get going again. Thanks again to everyone for all your support. I hope to post some pics in a couple of days so stay tuned.
