I tend to disagree about the barque and galleons being the same thing. By the 17th century galleons were significantly bigger than barques, which I'd classify as a medium size vessel. The other difference being galleons were more commonly used by the Spanish while the barques were used by the French.

I think we really need to have a proper Eldorado Fortress debate too...

Here are some brick built hulls both of junks. You can't tell from the pics but I'm not quite happy with the brown junk's bow (too much empty space). I designed the sails before the release of the orient ship or else I might have used that sail instead.

My MOCs:

This is titled "Imperial barrack"...If i would be a Lego set designer I'd put only 2 pirates in that set...but i decided to put 4 because i thought make a photo of a lego battle in that pirates are killing imperial guards will be really cool:

Greetings all,

I posted a little bit on piratebricks, before it went down, sadly :-(

Anyway, a few years ago, just as I was comming out of my dark ages, my collection of lego got stolen. So, I began picking up KK2 sets(groan, but at least its lego) and finally found out about bricklink and eBay! I got a Imperial trading post, and fell in love with it, but I wasn't that big of a fan of the cutter. It was too small for my liking.

Long story short, I combined the cutter with one of the KK2 sets. It was a toysrus special, the big stone WWII esque beach lander. I think it looks pretty good, but sadly right now don't have a digital camera. Hopefully I'll be able to post pics soon.

Sorry for talking so much without an actual pic.

We don't mind Mr Texas_jack_can! We're pleased to know that you've been dabbling in ship MOC building and your detailed response is appreciated much more than a small message like "I'm building a ship MOC, but no digital camera so you'll have to wait". This way we know exactly what's going on and it creates anticipation to see what you're upto.

So when you have the pictures by all means create a new thread and we'll have a good old discussion about your ship!

Welcome to Eurobricks Texas Jack Can, I'm sure you will like it here and that's the saddest story I've ever heard :'-(

How did your collection get stolen? And what's this "big stone WWII esque beach lander", is it LEGO? Please explain.

The stone WWII lander is set number 8801. I basically built her from the box, then put it up in my windowsill and ignored it, as I do with much of the KK2 line. Anywho I was over in the castle board, and they mentioned how they hated it because it was 1)made of stone and 2) had no sails or oars, hence no way to move it, aside from the two flags. Since I got the ITP, that little cutter has been the only Imperial ship in the lego waters, so I thought I should beef her up a bit.

I tore apart the castle boat, took down the front tower and the ramp in the front, so that it was reduced to just the flat bottom hull. It's nice and wide, which is much better than the narrow cutter. I then tore the hull off the cutter, and basically put the top of it onto the hull of the castle ship, with a little work around the edges to make it look nice. The biggest problem I ran into, and hopefully you all will be able to see soon, was the very front of the cutter was a bit too narrow for the rest of the hull. Lacking enough pieces to really get it to fit, I just tossed it on there and told myself it looked mighty fine. The nice thing is the wider hull means I can fit a cannon with a swivle on it, and the below deck cargo hold is now much larger. She is a bit front heavy though, even with the cannon removed and both crewmen at the stern. Just means more tinkering I guess :)

As to how the lego got stolen, it was mostly my fault. I had moved down to Lethbridge, and it was raining so my lego container got wet during the trip. I left it out on the lawn to dry off, and accidently left it out too long I guess. I sucks, but if I had it, I doubt very much I would have found out about bricklink, ebay, and these forums. Besides, I got a BSB(My first ever large lego set. I got my first one when I was 8), and had a blast rebuilding it. The ITP was something that I had always wanted, but never got, so that was a natural second selection. Now its a matter of concentrating on the pirates line, with a few side trips to TRU for vikings(their ship was great to build, with the old pirate hull pieces in the center) and the few KK2 sets that look good.

If/when I get access to a digital camera, I'll also upload pics of a pirate hideout/secert society temple that the captian belongs too. More KK2 shifted into the Pirates realm, I'm afraid.

Isn't it great that now you're older you can afford the larger and more expensive pirate sets? I remember when I was a younger laddie I wanted an Eldorado Fortress and Rock Island Refuge but they were waaaay out of my price range. But these days, thanks to a combination of having a higher income and a resource like eBay where I can find good deals, I have both these sets.

Your other MOCs sounds very interesting Mr Texas_jack_can, so when you get the pictures be sure to create a thread each for them so they can each get the discussion they deserve.

I think we're going off topic in Mr SuvieD's Ship Challenge Thread so I can move these posts over to a new thread if you'd like to expand upon your introductory discussion.

Here be my ship its a 20 gun light frigate with only 14 cannons :-$

Thats a sweet frigate.

Everyone's ships look great so far!

Texas Jack, that stinks that you lost your whole collection. Man I would have hunted that bastard down LOL!

I want to post pics of some of my ships but I am currently at college housing... where I do not have access to many of my bricks... (i should really do some sort of inventory, my fleet is mighty large...) i have some ships made, but they are not color coordinated very well due to lack of pieces... So i am fearing putting them up here... they are pretty laughable! :P

However seeing many of your ships makes me want to find time to actually build again. (So much work with my two masters programs that I am in. ) I think I am going to have to build something new soon.

Is this "challenge" still running??

Well, here are 2 of my other ships, the Red Peril and the Acheron(latest part)..

Mr. Tiber that Red Peril of yours looks good. I love the sail configuration. It looks a lot diff. from the standard sqr rigging and still looks authentic. You should edit that post and post pics or somethin.

Let me join in and post my modified Imperial Flagship.

The fotographs show two stages: one with the original hull, and one with th extended one

It is basically the Imperial Flagship with four instead of three hull-pieces, a second mast and a captainscabin with interior.

Off course I had to remove the beautiful steering system in favour of the cabin interior.

I do apologize for the black lantern-tops on the back of the ship, I just needed the blue ones (only ones I have got in blue!) for my Ford Thunderbird....

By clicking the link you will go to my brickshelf site. I recently bought a second large sail off Bricklink and I already put it on the second mast, but I haven't found the time yet to take pictures of it...

enjoy!
