Vader Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Ive never understood why lego dosent get their sets out to the whole world in time for xmas, after all we all spend more and other toy lines bring out new products for this time of year.
mahjqa Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Question: do the 4-wide cars (8644 - Street Maniac, 8643 - Power Cruiser, 8642 - Monsters Crusher, 8641 - Flaming Glider ) have *any* kind of functionality and/or extra play value, or are they 'just' cars on 4 wheels and that's it? I have not had the chance to open one yet but to the best of my knowledge, they are just matchbox like cars with no pull-back engine or shooting mechanism. I will check it out tonight. This page already answered the question, but if you don't mind, I've got another one: (getting tired yet? :D ) The wheels on 8643 and 8644, do they work with the pull-back engines?
Orlego Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 Ive never understood why lego dosent get their sets out to the whole world in time for xmas, after all we all spend more and other toy lines bring out new products for this time of year. At this point, I don't think Lego knows what the hell they are doing. Two weeks ago corp. told us that we would not receive the new sets until Jan 8, then last Friday we were told a pallet of new items would arrive on Monday. Then on Monday we were told that the 05 sets were available to Lego owned retail stores for Christmas promo and they were all exclusive to the Lego owned stores until Jan 8 05. And now Toys R. Us has them? Hmmm |-/

Vader Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Yeah it sounds like the left hand dosent know what the right hands doing >:( what a way to run a company :|
Orlego Posted December 9, 2004 Author Posted December 9, 2004 Yeah, you should see how the retail operations work. We can't order anything. Corp. sends us what they think we should have. We can't even do special orders for customers. The only thing we can do is put in a request. We are also not allowed (legally) to tell customers about Shop At Home. We can be fired for it. Both divisions sued each other (reasons unknown). I just don't see how this helps the company. Also if the store manager had the power to order the store and the same inventory to pick from that S@H has, Lego would make a ton of money. A good example... last week at our store we were just about out of everything. We did not get product in until this Monday and it was all new 05 sets. We didn't get regular product in until Tuesday. Why run a business this way? The store manager is responsible for all sales but how can he meet budget when there is no product to sell?? All that the big shots need to do is work a week at the store to see how things need to be changed. It is much easier to see what is wrong by going to the source, not by sitting in an office. And I'm still waiting for the BNSF locomotive to come it :'(
theoryzero Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Orlego, I was at the MoA store last night and saw one of the employees packing up lots of "older" sets in large boxes (i.e. old Star Wars MINIs, etc.). I was wondering if he was packing them to send them back to Corp.? As far as I know there is rarely a sale at these stores, so I wondered if they send them back to S@H to get clearanced? TZ
ApophisV Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 I saw many boxes (as far as i remember approx. 30cm x 30cm x70cm) with first wave minis at my local toy store... They're selling them for 2 Euro (instead of 6)....

TZ They may have been told to send them back to corp. We have been phasing them out by giving away a free mini with a $100 purchase. I have not been into work yet today so I will check it out. You are right about the sales, there are not many at the Lego stores. Our store does accept coupons from Toys R Us and others but we do not advertise our policy anywhere in the store, you just have to know about it.

sam89 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 A few more new sets on S@H America: Speedboat Robo Platoon Speed Wings
David85 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 106 pices for a $30 boat. I don't care if it does float and have a motor, it's not worth it.
Vader Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 Shhheeshh $30 for the boat, the price over here well be sky high. Guess ill wait to get this one on sale.
David85 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 It's because it has a motor in it. I thought it would move because there was this funny piece in the back of it, but I thought there would be more than 106 pieces, the motor must cost like $10 to make or something. I will most likely buy one when Target puts it for like $16.78 or something like that, just to have it float around my pool. :D

And I believe that. So I'd be suprised if that motor would cost more than 1 dollar. 4669 costs $20 and contains the same motor. If the seller gets cca 40%, it's 12 dollars which should go to TLC (and generate some profit).
David85 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 I never even knew the police boat has a motor in it, they also changed the picture to show it. I rather buy the Police boat through, at least it looks like a boat. I also find it funny the other boat, the Police Boat, has "Really Floats" and "Needs Batteries", when the new speeder boat just says "Needs Batteries", does that mean it doesn't really float?

But the Police Boat is 4+, and that's no-no for most of the people I know :^D They were also selling the special edition of Capt. Redbeard Pirate Ship in Germany with the same motor. That ship is 4+ also, but my son is going to get it this Christmas anyways, althought he's still 4- :-D But I believe the speeder floats, those red parts must float.
David85 Posted December 11, 2004 Posted December 11, 2004 I know, if it doesn't then it's not a boat but a sub. :) Just find it funny they didn't put "Floats" on the page. The Police Boat is better, All I'm going to do is find it for cheap, through out those guys and replace the front.

The back of the box shows it floating in a bath tub and it has a real motor. This set is expensive because of the large molded one piece bottom. This set is also much larger than you think. It is not a small boat.
