Long time ago, when I introduced myself here I said that I'm thinking (well, dreaming could be a better word) about making large minifig scale lattice-tower mobile crane. It took me a lot of time to gather specialized parts for it, especially lattice modules used only in 7632 set.

Of course, it couldn't be possbile to make that type of crane before gaining some experience by making smaller cranes. My first crane was small, six axle crane loosely based on Liebherr LTM 1200. It all started with it, because its steered/suspended axles were used succesfully in all my mobile cranes.

Of course I couldn't make a lattice crane without required quantity of lattice parts :)

I proudly present my biggest crane so far, Liebherr LG 1750 lattice-tower mobile crane built in minifig scale.

As you can see, the carrier looks like massive outriggers with attached wheels. It looks that because slewing crane platform, boom and jib systems are shared with the LR 1750 crawler crane and the only way to provide similiar stability to crawler chassis was to make "four extremely rigid, folding arms".

It has eight axles suspended pendulary, six of them are steered.

The real machine.

The recipe for a crane:

Take a carrier, add slewing platform, that is fitted with three motorized winches.

Those winches are powered from single rechargeable battery box and steered by three PF switches.

Main counterweight trays:

Suspended ballast tray:

We add all available ballast and mount it on the carrrier:

Main boom:

Back mast:

Luffing jib:

The last step requires adding some links and dozen meters of rope:

The result is almost 2 meters tall crane:

This configuration is based on the first image from LG 1750 PDF file.

Motorized winches:

Back winch, responsible for moving all three lattice modules:

Front winch, responsible for moving the jib:

Middle winch, responsible for raising and lowering the hoock block:

In this configuration is also used one manual winch, responsible for moving the main boom:

Very cool crane M_Longer  Great detail and awesome job on the steering mechanism! How manny crawler crane sets did this take? Keep up the great work! :classic:

It took a lot of... Bricklink ordering ;)

Another excellent creation M_longer, and by far the best among your crane builds! What's really outstanding about your MOCs is that not only are they very well designed on the exterior but the actual functioning elements really elevates your builds on a whole new level. I could just imagine how much time and effort you make in designing this fully-functional and visually-pleasing cranes. Impressive work as always!

Awesome work. You've taken your crane building to new heights. It's great to see all the functionality. Have you ever considered doing a large Terex Demag or Mammoet PTC? You do seem to like Liebherr. :classic:

Absolutely incredible! I love how you have pendular suspension on all of the axles. In fact, I'm using your design on one of my trucks. My only question is how you are able to keep the axles balanced.

Thank you for comments :)

It's quite simple - steered axles are transverse pendular modules, and axles that are not steered are placed lengthwise.

For example, undercarriage of my LTM 1300:

Stunning work. How are you going to top this one?

Good question. Maybe with something like this?

Ring crane that will be using Lego RC tracks as turntable. Some time ago I have seen a crane that was turned by a diesel locomotive, so it could be a good start ;)

I am not a Technic fan at all. But I can not keep away from looking at marvelous designs.

This is definatley one of those jaw dropping creations!

Congratulations on making this insanley awesome Liebherr crane. It simply looks fantastic.

Three words: Amazing, awesome, massive...

I always enjoy watching your cleverly designed MOCs, Can't wait to see that Ring crane

You should ask Liebherr to sponsor your MOCing

Like Lego has its Maersk-line, you have your Liebherr-Line

It is very nice and looks good. The working steering is nicely done but suffers from the problem I had a few years back when putting rear-controlled multi-axle steering in a vehicle. The rear wheels turn fractionally before the front ones which is no problem for display but creates a weird effect when "driving" around corners. I never found a really neat solution as this is caused by the slack in LEGO UJs and other parts. My solution was to run the steering column direct to the front steering rack and have a second column from the front rack to the one at the back.

But maybe I'm a bit fussy? Nice job!

Cheers
