Dreamweb Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I was quite a big MK fan back in the old days (a freak would be a better word perhaps). I spent quite a lot of time playing all parts up to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. During those years, being a Lego fan as well, I tried to approach the subject in Lego form on numerous occasions. However the quality of those experiments was never satisfactory. Only recently I decided to give it one more try, for old times' sake. I mean I still play MK from time to time, but I'm nowhere near my past skills. So here are the results, in the form of a made-up video game called "Mortal Kombat - Brickality". I've had a really great time making these MOCs. They are generally inspired by 2D parts of the game, up to MK Trilogy, but remember that they are also kind of my free interpratation of the MK series. The gallery will perhaps be updated with new moves, new fatalites, perhaps even character bios and stuff like that, and perhaps it won't - it all depends on the amount of my free time, my future interest in the project and the feedback it will get. Oh, and just in case let's write it: Warning! This gallery contains strong graphic violence presented using Lego bricks! Brickshelf folder Fight! Quote
Starwars4J Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Very well done! I like the background, I look forward to seeing you make more backgrounds and characters 8- Quote
bigfatslob Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Great work, as a past MK fan myself, I can really appreciate this. Your creativity and attention to detail are appreciated, a warm smile has been brought to my labored brow *sweet* . bfs Quote
Piglet Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I admire it. The scenes and the additional graphics like health bars, player selection etc. are great. I wasn't a fan of MK but I remember it and it's contribution to the computer games world. Why don't you show it on Lugpol? ; o) Did you damage the Scorpion's black cs helmet on a purpose or you just had it in such condition already? : o) What's the material of that yellow outfit? Some kind of tape? Quote
Vader Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Looks great, i like how youve done the figs. Do you plan on doing a goro one? Quote
Dreamweb Posted June 16, 2006 Author Posted June 16, 2006 (edited) Why should I, there already is one: Goro Vs Nightwolf Liu Kang Vs Goro Goro wins! Edited June 27, 2007 by Dreamweb Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Oh, the joy that was leaving work at 3pm... going to the mall amidst dozens of strangers to play Mortal Kombat 2 until the arcade manager turned off the lights. Too bad the series kinda' went into the crapper after that. Even without the health bars and all that jazz, there's no mistaking who the characters here are. Scorpion's "GET OVER HERE!" move would've looked better with string and a silver harpoon point than a spear, but would've taken some tricky, suspended in midair photography. LOL at your attention to accuracy, what with the red discs on the floor emulating the ever-present blood spatter. The only thing that could make this any more nostalgic is adding the tormented trees background done in system, along with the pit stage. (spears a'plenty!) :-D Quote
Dreamweb Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 I was considering making The Pit stage, perhaps one day I will... Or maybe someone else :-D ... "Tormented trees"? You mean the Living Forest stage? That would be hard for me as I have very little brown bricks :-( As I said maybe I'll continue the project one day... I was quite surprised to see how little MK MOCs there are... Actually I've only managed to find this logo and a few custom minifigs from newer games on MOCpages. About my minifigs - Johnny Cage is inspired by what he looked like in the first game (back in the times when his hair was black, not brown), and so are Kano, Liu Kang and Sonya Blade (her hair was rather brown than light blonde like in the 3rd and later parts). Rayden and Kitana are inspired by MK2. Quote
Dreamweb Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 I wonder if many of you have noticed a little reference to the first MK game I've made - MK1 had Reptile as a hidden character, so I've made a "hidden" Reptile as well - the actual minifig can't be seen anywhere, but here you can see Reptile being burnt during Sonya's fatality (the picture suggests that he can be found somewhere in the "game", just like in MK1). Governor Mister Phes Posted June 25, 2006 Governor Posted June 25, 2006 Congratulations Mr Dreamweb you've made an entire Mortal Kombat theme! Now invent a time machine and go back in time 14 years, and pitch the idea to The LEGO Company (insisting that licencing is the way of the future). They'll probably be apprehensive due to the violent nature of Mortal Kombat but just use the following example to gain exceptance: Imagine Anakin Skywalker burnt to crisp with all his limbs removed during a sequence in which his Darth Vader armour is applied - in its LEGO form it could be completed toned down so there would be no problems. Dreamweb Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 (edited) I'm happy to announce that, almost exactly a year after its premiere, the Mortal Kombat theme has been updated! I've made four new regular characters (Sub-Zero, Jax, Baraka, Jade), two bosses (Motaro, Shao Kahn), one kombat zone (The Subway), and added a few fight scenes showing all this new stuff. The "Fatalities" subfolder is the last one to be updated, which will happen in a day or so. Meanwhile, the kombat kontinues! (the Brickshelf folder is still HERE) Edited June 27, 2007 by Dreamweb Quote

Maybe the next update will be in a year, just like the last time ;-) Noob Saibot is already there! I tried to make the robots but the results didn't satisfy me. Another time perhaps...
