January 7, 201213 yr Sad news indeed... I don't get it though, what about that Flying Dutchman set picture a few people claimed to have seen? Did TLG spontaneously decide to scrap that idea?
January 7, 201213 yr *weeps bitterly* *weeps bitterly some more* *weeps bitterly for hours* *sucks in snot from runny nose* Farewell, PotC. How I loved that theme. I hope they'll still make pirates in 2012. This is scary.
January 7, 201213 yr To tell the truth I'm actually really excited POTC's over. I haven't bought a single set from that line. Hopefully this means the hiatus of classic pirates is over. Pirates 2013 anyone? Edited January 7, 201213 yr by Skipper
January 7, 201213 yr snik as well (how does it comes that suddenly that emoticon is in the top 7 together with this: ? ) oh well, on the other hand, my monthly legomoney can go entirely to historica (bricklink and LOTR)
January 7, 201213 yr Dang it. I planned to get more sets from POTC. Whitecap Bay looks great on my bookshelf, and QAR is dominating a marble countertop.
January 7, 201213 yr Pirates 2013 anyone? Yes please! Im not sad either that POTC line ends, i did like the theme, but i couldnt have taken another wave anymore. Now i only hope that Lego brings Pirates back soon as possible, and hopefully whit new small ships and minifigs and new parts! Im very excited. Captain Becker
January 7, 201213 yr I would be excited too, but only if there was evidence of a return to classic pirates... We might go at least another year without pirate sets. And, I don't need to or want to mention the horrible Ten Year Wait.
January 7, 201213 yr So is it certain that there will not be anymore POTC for 2012 because we heard a lot of reports from toy store vendors and other resources that stated we were getting more POTC for 2012. If this is true I for one will be very disappointed since I was really wanting a pentel and regetti. That being said I do hope that the news is not true and that POTC will return or if it is I really hope that we don't have to wait another ten years.
January 7, 201213 yr Sad it is, Lego let down an awesome line I don't understand that the didn't make the Flying Dutchman and al those other characters that were so important in the movies What I also don't understand is why they made a Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: the video game if only 9 sets were to be made with only 25 (with female statue on the black pearl 26) characters while the video game had over 50 characters???? I still hope that the news is not true. does this mean the will never make any more PotC sets, or just not till the next movie is coming? Edited January 7, 201213 yr by Lord Cutler Beckett
January 7, 201213 yr My OPINION is that PotC will be back, maybe with just one big set. We've heard a lot more rumors about the line continuing than we have of it being cancelled, and people have actually SEEN this set. It could be that it's a D2C set and that there will not be a complete wave....
January 8, 201213 yr Totally agree with you punkkid364, we' ll wait to Macoco to pronounce himself and bring some light this topic and I must to say that I believe in the information from Macoco that Lego will launch a +2000pcs Flying Dutchman... :) Pd: Sorry for the grammar :D
January 8, 201213 yr I never purchase a POTC set until now. Today, I got the Captain's Quarters. Neat little eleven dollar set. I love the hair on the Jack Sparrow figure.
January 8, 201213 yr This is terrible news, if it's true that PotC is done with. Looking at all 9 sets released so far, to me they don't represent what Lego is capable of doing with this line... So many important/major characters that we'll never see... Edited January 8, 201213 yr by The_Chosen_1
January 8, 201213 yr Perhaps PotC will be like Harry Potter, and when the next movie comes out, TLG will make more sets. We can hope.
January 8, 201213 yr Um, no offense LightningTiger, or anyone else, but I wouldn't get to caught up in this 'news'. Until we get OFFICIAL word from Lego I wouldn't get my hopes up about a Flying Dutchman set or get too bummed about it being discontinued. Just saying....
January 9, 201213 yr Finally after always wanting Lego pirate themed ship as a kid, my Queen Anne was shipped today I can't wait! Always wanted a Lego pirate ship finally was able to get one. As for if the POTC theme will end or not I honestly don't mind it but I am holding onto that last thread of hope that Lego will release the Flying dutchman... but being late to the party I did miss out on the Imperial Flagship as well but next ship I will get will be the Black Pearl once funds build up again. I tell the wife its for our daughter (she's only 2 but really its for me I did also pick up Captain's Quarters set today (after reading reviews of it here) not bad for $11cdn with the mini figures and all and with the doubles (except for Jack) they can become additional crew members to QAR! Be careful with that. She might make you keep your word when she is older and then you'll be out a ship that will be costly on the aftermarket... better buy another one to be safe
January 10, 201213 yr Sorry, to bring sad news, but I check with one of my source's today....the Lego rep told him when he asked about any more POTC....the answer was NO MORE POTC, it's finished. Again, sorry to pass on the sad news. not to discredit you or your source but I don't believe it. Not confirmed or denied until an announcement from TLG themselves. #1 the OP quote I gave is a LEGO employee who has access to the catalog and knew of LOTR when everyone didn't believe it. Everything else he provided us has proven to be true #2 Derfdel also knows or has seen the catalog for 2012 POTC. It is being kept tight until the toy fairs. "search your feelings you know it be true" Edited January 10, 201213 yr by Macoco
January 10, 201213 yr Hallelujah! This has made me optimistic, at least. Still, it's bizarre that all the other themes, including Disney Cars, have been leaked and PotC/Pirates have not. Wait, didn't Lego say there "would always be pirate sets on the shelves" earlier?
January 10, 201213 yr Wait, didn't Lego say there "would always be pirate sets on the shelves" earlier? No, I don't believe they said that. There was an official communication in writing (read it on the internet) that said something like classic Pirates isn't going away forever, it's just on hiatus. That was in regards to the announcement of PotC.
January 10, 201213 yr #1 the OP quote I gave is a LEGO employee who has access to the catalog and knew of LOTR when everyone didn't believe it. Everything else he provided us has proven to be true This one (just checking)? Macoco, have you guys seen/heard of any 2012 POTC sets besides the Flying Dutchman? Because the POTC line can be nominally over next year even if the Flying Dutchman set is released, just as the Pirates line ended in 2009 even with the subsequent release of the IFS in 2010.
January 10, 201213 yr Because the POTC line can be nominally over next year even if the Flying Dutchman set is released, just as the Pirates line ended in 2009 even with the subsequent release of the IFS in 2010. This. I concur.
January 10, 201213 yr What I'd really love to see would be the Endeavor, Lord Cutler Beckett's ship. That would be amazing if LEGO got it right, with its three story cabin, triple gun decks, deep color scheme with yellow accents. That would be the most impressive ship. And they would have to give us AT LEAST twnety cannon
