Scarilian Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 On 07/02/2017 at 9:00 AM, Maxim I said: I only hope that by combining two Silent Mary's (ghost version), one could create the original imperial war ship (which is appealing way more than the ghost version)... On 05/02/2017 at 9:26 PM, David Thomsen said: If they released a 'broken' ship and included instructions on how to build a 'complete' ship out of two sets, that would be the most diabolically clever way to entice me to buy two copies of the ship because I'm not interested in incomplete ghost ships.... Even without the instructions, i'm fairly sure most 'broken' builds that Lego makes can be repaired by buying a duplicate or so. Quote

It's about context. Potc sets was in 2011. In 2012, lego got both the dc and the marvel license as well as LOTR and hobbit. So there wasn't room for potc to continue back then. This year is full, mostly due to the 2 lego movies. 5 superhero movies Kids will be busy buying all those sets, So it made sense for lego to make a d2c for the adults more interested in POTC. Quote
gedren_y Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Depp's box office appeal has faltered in recent years, so toy marketing will likely be less. I'd have to recheck, but I think the deal with him was for six POTC movies. Does he need to join the MCU to get people to go see him again? Then maybe TLG will think to invest in more than one set if/when POTC comes around again. Quote

Quite possibly after the release of this movie they'll be a lot of hype surrounding him again, and myabe, just maybe lego will release one more D2C before the long wait for this 6th movie. Quote

I don't think he signed up for multiple films at once since 2 and 3. that's why his salary is so insane. Whatever appeal depp has or not doesn't matter for this movie I don't think. Also the people who watch(ed) a movie cause it had Depp i wouldn't think would be the same people buying toys primarily. And disney seem interested in making a potc film without Jack. Which would be great imo. Just now, Legoman123 said: Six movies?! That'll be good to see him in one more. Lego seemed to give simpsons 2 d2c sets based on nothing but their plan alone. So I think there's a lot of reasons for hope. 2018 has jurassic world sequel, but not much else seemingly for lego. There is a lot of superheroes movies next year though, Avengers, The Flash, Deadpool 2 (but we defiantly won't get sets based on that ), Gambit, Ant-Man 2, The Batman & Sinister Six. Quote

No sinister six, no Flash, and very likely no Batman. Aquaman, Avengers, ant man and black panther is the ones we're likely to get sets from. They 'have to' retire some current d2c sets eventually making room for some new ones to hang around a while. Quote

Anyway, I hope this is like the Simpsons. Maybe if the movie does well and the set sells well they'll do another 2 BrickHeadz and another D2C! Quote

Capn Frank Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 @deskp, @GoldenNinja3000, @Legoman123 Lets stay on topic for POTC please and not discuss our thoughts on other themes. Quote
gedren_y Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 There was some 'Depp fever' when the first POTC movie was initially promoted. That wasn't my point, though. Recent movies with Depp in the principle role have had smaller returns, with less new audience draw. TLG's model for movie licensing seems to fit a certain pattern. The amount of set development seems to be linked (at least somewhat) to the projections of the potential for customers coming from those interested in the movie. The over-estimated projections for The Lone Ranger seem to bear this out. My point was that I see no real probability of a full POTC line of sets being produced anytime soon. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Despite Depp's recent films, I have a feeling this POTC film is going to be pretty big. Bigger than 4 was for sure, probably the biggest since 2. So IMO, if the film does as good as I think it will, a whole line would do well. I agree with what others have said, look at the abomination that was Ghostbusters 2016, Lego gave that film only 1 set because they were unsure of how Well the film would do. Which that was a smart move by lego, a whole line based on THAT film would have flopped with the movie. Lego gave POTC a whole line in 2011 with the 4th film and it did ok, but not great. So only releasing 1 set with films they are unsure of is a smart move. Having said that, if the trailer for the new film is any indication, I think this film SHOULD have a whole line, at least 1 more ship. Watch Lego miss this opportunity though, and then do a whole line with POTC 6, and watch that film not do well... Missed opprotunity, lol. Quote
TalonCard Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I'm loving the Sparrow Brickhead, but Salazar isn't doing much for me--there's not much in his design that says "I'm from a pirate movie." Put him next to the Sparrow head, and it looks more like an attempt at Edward Scissorhands than anything else. :D TC Quote

But also they didn't give him his medals. Gave him a saber tho, to show hes from a pirate film :P Quote

eldiano Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 (edited) i sold my black pearl and QAR, but have you guys seen the prices on the those sets? both total more than an UCS even the imperial frigate is fetching prices more than 450 bucks, frankly i welcome any new sets they throw out at us, but even then i have been obsessed with pirates even assembling the pirate sets i have from 2015, hopefully we get enough sets even if potc related. The movie comes out in May, if they finally release the D2C pirates set from the movie will they release smaller sets? I know with Disney they keep them tight because of the embargo on movie spoilers but one can only hope I guess. Edited February 11, 2017 by eldiano Quote
Scarilian Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 I believe Lego are going with 'The Villain' approach for the ships of the POTC theme; POTC 1 - Black Pearl (Released in 2011) primarily commanded by Captain Jack or Hector Barbossa POTC 2 - Flying Dutchman, commanded by Davy Jones and later by Will Turner POTC 3 - The Endeavour, commanded by Lord Cutler Beckett POTC 4 - Queen Anne's Revenge (Released in 2011), commanded by Blackbeard and later by Hector Barbossa POTC 5 - The Silent Mary (Expected to be released in 2017), commanded by Salazar On 09/02/2017 at 4:15 PM, Captain Pirate Man said: I think this film SHOULD have a whole line, at least 1 more ship. Noteably 'The Flying Dutchman' could be given a set at some stage given we clearly see it return in the extended TV spot previously shown in this topic - meaning it'll appear in POTC 5 and potentially POTC 6 with new characters including Will Turner and others that could justify a set. If they go for '1 more ship' then 'The Flying Dutchman' with Will Turner is the way to go. If they do that then we'll have four of the five main villain ships for the movies. The Endeavour being destroyed and having limited screentime is unlikely to get a set. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 I would love to get The Endeavour, but I agree it is HIGHLY doubtful. The Flying Dutchman remains a possibility. Quote
GoldenNinja3000 Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Whew! Just finished the QAR and will be starting the BP soon. I honestly don't know how they're going to make such a huge pirate ship for this movie! I'm kind of afraid it'll dwarf the other ones and they'll look outmatched, but who knows. Hopefully pics will come next weekend! Quote

We should definitely see it this month, normally VIP early access sets are revealed just before the end of the month preceeding release (E.g. March VIP Early access implies a February reveal) In the case of this set, NYTF seems likely. Though they may wait till after the NYTF ends and then just release official images showing the figures and the build - similar to the UCS Helicarrier, sometimes they want the first images shown to be official ones. Hopefully the build of the ship is good and 'haunted' looking. Quote
cullmancreations Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I never built my QAR and I regret not getting the Black Pearl hopefully this set will make up for that Quote
