As of now the most likely explanation is it's a S17 figure. It's been discussed on the S17 topic. Plus we already know the only themed CMFs in 2017 will be Ninjago and Batman.

Don't read too much into the Dutchman failing under Lego Ideas. We know that Lego had prototyped and developed a Dutchman, and took it fairly far into development. There were some fuzzy pictures of a prototype way way in the back of that picture of the developers room from a few years back. Plus the minifig selection for the Black Pearl kinda clearly had the Dutchman in mind. But the fact that the Ideas set failed could simply be that they had prior development work into the subject already completed under the license. 

I think we will either see a new Black Pearl or a ship from the new movie.

Counterpoint: they've never done a teaser like this for a licensed series, either. It may just be something they've decided to start doing in the manuals from now on, now that they no longer have LEGO Minifigures Online to promote.

The tease has been confirmed for Series 17. Also there won't be POTC CMF, we know all of the Series coming out for a while I believe. I hope that it is a new ship though, I don't want another Black Pearl unless it's really, really, really, really nice.

First they made it in to a robot and now a zombi :hmpf_bad: Why can't they give us the normal version of the shark :sadnew:

If that is in a pirate set I will most likely not buy it :sceptic: Hopefully it is in a ninjago set or similar :grin:

It could still be the BP, just with characters/creatures relevant for the new movie.

There has been a few exceptions, like the snake head mold in the Simpson's line. However, I'm sure they'll find another way to use that shark mold in other themes.

Well I think we can rule out the Flying Dutchman for sure then! Is it the new ship, Queen Ann's or the Black Pearl I wonder.  Exiting times?

With this info its hard to say which ship is guaranteed. It could still be the black pearl because the shark could act as a side animal for kids to play with. But however the shark might be the figurehead of the new ghost ship

Criminally under-utilized, that big shark mold, and fairly expensive on the secondary market. I think the zombie variant is pretty neat, but I don't think it's gonna be the hook that gets me to buy an expensive PoC set. Ah, well. Maybe they'll find a way to work the original UA version into the Summer '17 jungle-themed sets.
