Conversely I remember some of the mid-size PotC sets from 2011 hanging around on shelves for years. They've obviously done the maths and decided the best way they can profit from the next film is by releasing a single UCS set. I think as an AFOL it's easy to forget that TLG exist to make a profit and that their main audience is kids and their parents rather than AFOLs. I doubt this set is kid focused when its $199.95, but you have a good point with your remarks on why the ship was likely chosen. Quote

There are several sets in other themes at this price point that were kid focused. Hoth and the upcoming technic RC set come to my mind here. I guess the Ewok Village also counts. Well, I'm certainly hoping that images can get released soon... Quote
Capn Frank Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 I am dividing the discussion for the POTC theme differently than other Rumor and Discussion Topics. The divide is according to when images for the sets are released, see below. On 7/22/2010 at 11:18 PM, Oswald the Rabbit said: The following discussion should be in this topic: The previous 2011 wave of POTC sets. Upcoming sets with no official images, potential sets or wishlists. Discussion solely about the story, character, and other movie related information belong in the relevant movie topic in the Culture & Media Forum. Quote

I meant that they tried releasing PotC sets aimed at kids but they didn't perform that well (apart from the ships, which did as well as Pirate ships usually do), so this time they are aiming squarely for the AFOL audience by releasing a single UCS ship. They're not going to release smaller sets because they know the market probably isn't there for them. Quote
Roebuck Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 If it is a ghost ship it seems likely that it is aimed at kids, there are plenty of spoiled kids who are likely to get a $ 200 set in the world.. If it looks like a realistic ship it is more likely aimed at adults. Maybe Lego do not have room on the shelfs now for a complete wave, remember even "fantastic beasts" only got dimensions sets and I believe HP sets have been traditional bestsellers?! Quote
GoldenNinja3000 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 If pictures come out today, I'm assuming it'll be a 12 pm-ish release. 6 hours ago, Roebuck said: If it is a ghost ship it seems likely that it is aimed at kids, there are plenty of spoiled kids who are likely to get a $ 200 set in the world.. I don't know why they didn't make a full line for Pirates, but I'm happy with that decision and just one huge ship. I think not doing a full line for Fantastic Beasts was a huge mistake, but that's not a discussion that belongs here. I think the only thing a full Pirates line would've been better for is getting every character in the movie, but hopefully the ship will deliver on that too. Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Not having a full line is a missed opportunity.Hell they don't even have to make a full line, just a small wave with 3 or 4 sets.Such a waste really. Any way you guys think we'll finally see the ship today? Quote

It was not mentioned in the press release, but that might be for a suprise reveal. Either it'll be NYTF or released in official images online. I'm personally expecting the official images route as i'm unsure if they would want to risk revealing the set in-person where it'd be more easy to see any potential flaws in the design. Quote

Melvin Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I am really sick of waiting, I can't wait any longer. Quote

Captain Pirate Man Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 It looks kinda small in the pic, the masts I mean. Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) Better shot...https://www.instagram.com/p/BQpy97ejXyp/ So it seems that there are no shooting cannons, only brick built ones...also ship is not standing on ground, its kinda "floating" by sitting on trans clear holders/stands... Overal it looks lika a scaled down model ... Edited February 18, 2017 by Blazej_Holen Quote
Legoman123 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I need to see better images of it, but from first impressions I'm kind of disappointed. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Looks fantastic, love it Too bad we can't make out most of the minifigs, the only one clearly visible is Salazars first mate (?), yk the one with the eyepatch Quote
Pulp Detective Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 (edited) I presume Lego is gonna put out an official press release for the set right? That's what they do with sets like these.I hope so because I really wanna see those minifigs. The overall ship looks pretty good and it is the Silent Mary as many speculated. Edited February 18, 2017 by LOTR34 Quote
Scarilian Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 We have official images in the other topic :3 Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Pitty that there is many colors on it... Black, brown, gray, light gray...no cabin, no proper gun deck... :/ Quote
deskp Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 The good news is the minifigures have not cannibalized possible future sets. Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Yep, and also acording to the official pic we will get at least 4 ghost crew including Armando Salazar :) Quote
dyntar Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 I've seen a few pictures of this ship. It looks great but none of the pics show the zombie shark. Isnt that supposed to be in this set? Quote
gedren_y Posted February 19, 2017 Posted February 19, 2017 (edited) Some speculation on the zombie shark, since it isn't official that it is in the SM set, maybe it will be a Shop @ Home polybag. Edited February 19, 2017 by gedren_y Quote

That would be an interesting polybag wouldn't it! I was hoping to get some clarification from the people who said that the Shark was coming out in a POTC set. It is quite possibly they were taking about another POTC set. Quote
