The silence was pierced by two gunshots ringing out, hitting Inspector Liebenston / Dragonator in the chest.

img_0498.jpg

"Someone call a medic!" Chief Fields says.

Elsewhere, another gunshot rings out, hitting Captain Harding / CaptJohnPaul

img_0499.jpg

"Agh!" he says.

He falls into Frankie's arms, and quickly whispers something into his ear. He then falls out of his arms, as Frankie rushes to catch him. He slams into the ground, a sickening crunch is heard.

img_0500.jpg

Frankie begins to cry, but quickly regains his composure as a tough crewman. Meanwhile, the National Guard have arrived with a stretcher for Inspector Liebenston.

img_0501.jpg

"It's a good thing he was wearing this vest." one of the medics comment.

They lead him away. Chief Fields notices something in the boxes of money, a note.

"We must have missed this before." he says.

It says: "For Councilman Ackerson, thanks for your support in the town council." A few eyes move to Councilman Ackerson.

"Where should we go now?" Mayor Bradford asks.

Rules:

(Borrowed partly from Dragonator’s Mystery Manor)

1. There are 18 participants. If you commit to the game you are committing to contributing to the story and sticking with it to the end. I am trusting you all not to drop out halfway through, as that is never any fun.

2. You must search for clues. This means that an action must be specified. For example, you wish to search a room for hidden objects. The following is an example of how not to go about this:

"I wish to look for suspicious or hidden objects in this room".

Instead, you must be able to specify what you want to do. For example:

"I would like to open the drawers of the cabinet."

It is not required for you to specify exactly what you are doing and what you are looking for, but a generalized statement will not find you anything. Act like a detective and you will be fine.

3. This game is meant to be fun, so enjoy yourselves!

4. Please be patient with me between chapters, I will try to put up the chapter topics as quickly as possible, but, this might not be so all the time.

5. Please try to avoid editing your posts, as it can lead to suspicion against you. Just consider what you want to say before you say it, and you'll be fine.

6. Please remember that this is the early 1950’s. No iPods, digital cameras, cell phones, printers, computers, fax machines, or otherwise. No events past the current date either, or else people will view you as insane.

7. I won’t keep you in a certain room if you don’t want me too. You’ll always have the option of backtracking or researching the same place.

8. The host is usually always right. If you think I’ve made an error, then please discuss this in the discussion thread or feel free to PM me.

9. Failure to follow these rules will result in a warning. A second failure will result in the death of your character.

10. Remember that although a chapter has ended, that doesn’t mean that the day has concluded, and night actions can be used.

10b. There are also chapter actions. Those of you with chapter actions have the ability to use them at the end of each chapter.

11. No Metagaming please. Also, don’t base suspicions on how the person looks.

Rules may be added or deleted as the game goes on based on game play.

12. This is the 1950’s, the middle of the Cold War. You’re under constant worry of potential nuclear Armageddon, so act like it. The Communists are your enemies in this game, don’t forget that. Also, anytime historical facts from the 1950’s are brought in is a big plus.

We probably should finish investigating the residences, there's still the Jenkins house and mine on the list.

Frankie, you heard Ted's last words, did he suspect anyone? Did he see something before he died?

I'm thinking that someone is trying to frame Councilman Ackerson, he's one of the few people here we know we can trust. Commies spreading their lies and trying to confuse us.

I have to wonder whether we'll ever learn the allegiance of the people dead over the last few days. :look:

Right, so it would appear that both our Vigilante and their night killer struck last night. But who attacked who? Did the vigilante attack Ted, or was it the other way around?

I agree with my friend Alan about the note. I'm pretty sure that the Councilman is on our side, and that note is trying to pull us off track.

When will we know the allegiances of the killed people?

And I vote we go to Alan's house, then mine. His house is next door, so we'd just have to pop into his house and a short walk to my house.

Well Ralph, if we do have a Vigilante then I would guess that he tried to kill Investigator Liebenston, maybe because he found his inactivity suspicious. Attacking Ted Harding was quite inappropriate, especially when we knew that he couldn't have been the one sneaking in the unoccupied apartment in Dieter's building. That seems to me more like a communist trying to shoot down the people we may start to trust.

While I have no way of knowing for certain, it would seem plausible that the vigilante attacked Matt Liebenston. Captain Ted hasn't been here for very long, but has been helpful in the short time we was with us.

Matt, on the other hand, has done very little to help this town find the commies. I have a feeling the vigilante saw this as a sign that Matt was a communist himself. As I have said before, though, I think it is more that Matt had no idea what he was doing. I doubt he actually was a communist. Though we won't know the answer to that for another week. :hmpf:

I look forward to seeing what Will has to say about this note. It could be a red herring. It's curious that we didn't find the note when we first searched the boxes. :hmpf_bad:

Yes, it's my belief that the vigilante attacked Matt. He hasn't really been much of a help anyways wrapped up in Werewolf mafia, so I suppose it's no big loss.

But now I'm anxious to hear from Councilman Ackerson. I'm pretty sure it's just a trick, but I'd like to hear it from him.

The boxes of money appear to have been moved here recently, so I doubt it's got anything to do with Mayor Lance Freeston and the old corruption business. That was four years ago, I thought the corruption was a thing of the past in Alabatha.

I think the note was also meant to incriminate Mayor Bradford, because who else would have access to so much council money and would want to thank Will Ackerson for support in the town council?

Is the note found in the box handwritten? If it is, I would like to ask Mayor Bradford to copy by hand the text of the note so that we can compare his handwriting to the one of the note.

Is it possible there are two vigilantes now after the empowerin' from General Stanley? Neither of 'em used knives and it seemed to me that the commie killer used knives. It also bothers me that the inspector was shot twice. Could two killers have gotten him?

If anyone wants to talk in private, I'll be thinkin' this over for a while.

Are we ever going to know the allegiance of our fallen neighbors?

Posted

From past experience, I would like to vouch with confidence that Ackerman is not a pinko. Maybe he's corrupt, maybe he was set up, but he's not a commie.

If commies only use knives, then there may be three vigilantes... which is almost as scary as having three commies amongst us. I'm afraid this whole situation is getting out of hand.

But perhaps someone has new information to share after using their new powers? Remember that if we have strong enough suspicions we can always vote to throw someone in the brig.

Hmm, I hadn't even thought of that possibility. Of course I'll comply and give a handwriting sample.

Perhaps everyone else in our group should do the same. Maybe we can check the sample against other notes we have found.

Poor Captain Harding, those damned commies seem to have killed him...or a second vigilante? The General had announced some more people would get night actons. :sceptic:

I'm wondering if the investigator will survive, he wasn't of much help, but as many said, he didn't seem to be a commie.

And I also think Ackerson is being framed, he seemed to me to be one of the most trustworthy ones.

Posted

Well, I can say for a fact that our vigilante attacked Matt. What did the Captain say to you Frankie? And I do believe the Councilman is being framed, where shall we go next?

Posted

Can't say I'm really saddened to see the Captain go; after he accused my with and children. Can't say I want him dead, just not around.

I think the communists got to the Captain, and a vigilante got to the Inspector; several of us have been suspicious of him for some time, due to his apparent lack of investigating. Although it's not outside the realms of possibility for a second investigator to have tried to take him out; his accusation against my son was quite radical.

I'm not sure if the notes in anyway relates to Ackerson being a communist, and even if the bribe is real, I doubt it's commie; in the movies it's always things like the Mafia that bribe council officials to look the other way. I imagine the commies treat for corruption would've just been letting him live at the end.

Posted

I'm very much certain Matt is a townie, unless he's the communist leader and wears a bulletproof vest.

I was reading a book called Eurodina the other day. One of the godfathers had a bulletproof vest provided by a certain person. Then again, it's also possible he's a townie with invincibility. Nevertheless, I think a lot of people were thinking about voting either of them, so we can figure out who was voting to lynch them, as to gain clues.

Bribery, Mr. Ackerson? Tut tut.

I'm just wondering, there was word of gold in the boxes? Why gold? I'm not very experienced in bribing people, but if I would do, or if I would act like if I would bribe somebody, I wouldn't use gold, but bills or something else.

I would like to examine the content of the boxes more carefully, to learn which other kinds of money are in it (e.g. coins, bills, stocks, estates etc.), if the gold is put in there as bullions, which currency the other content is, if the gold or anything else is marked somehow, the ratio between the different methods of payment and an estimation of the total value.

If I'm don't have the knowledge to figure those things out, I'd like to ask someone else to do. :sweet:

I would like to explain the note as best I can, and see if I know anything about it.

"I'm sorry, but I can't even explain that note." Ackerson says.

The note is indeed handwritten.

"Soon." Captain Garrison says.

Hmm, I hadn't even thought of that possibility. Of course I'll comply and give a handwriting sample.

Perhaps everyone else in our group should do the same. Maybe we can check the sample against other notes we have found.

Mayor Bradford's handwriting doesn't match the one from the note. If you want everyone in the group to do so, you'll need to have each of them say so.

There's U.S. Currency, coins, and gold bars. There's also a few jewels and other jewelry. The gold is unmarked. A rough estimation puts the total somewhere at six hundred thousand dollars.

Id like to give a sample of my handwriting as well, although I think we should be able to determine if it's a man's or a woman's handwriting. At least I'd like to try so.

Posted

Sure, I don't mind comparing my handwriting to the one on the note.

I wish to copy out the note.

In the meantime, shall we choose a target for our next visit? It's getting late.

Posted

I'll give a sample of my handwritin', too.

Will the Inspector be back today? As far as him wearin' a vest, I don't think that proves anythin' about his loyalty.

I'm still convinced that we have at least two vigilantes and that we did not see the commies strike.

Could this gold and money come from what we found in the attic of the town hall? Also I would like to ask General Stanley how many other investigations Matt has done and if any of them were successful. And I'd like to check something with the mayor.
