It all depends on the price for me really. It's more complex and better looking than the equivalent container truck (8052), hauler (8264)and cherry picker (8294). But then I'm not sure if you can compare it to these as the flatbed has (weirdly) 1115 pieces, and presumably it's more expensive.

If this set has an MSRP of less tham 90$ I would call it a good set.

I have ordered it today at the german section of the lego shop at home for 89,99€ and the service Truck for 39,99€.

I purchased and built this today. Works really well and only took about 5 hours. The functions work well and it looks good. I hope to do some mods on it soon.

anyone able to try and modify the "bed" to go lower and at a smaller angle to the floor. like perhaps the red lever to go 180 degrees? hope it makes sense.

got the kit 3 days ago, built the a model in 5 and a bit hours then last night spent an hour stripping it and built model b, prefer a so going to start again

it should be possible with some bigger modifications of the frame. but what dou you want to do with it?

i think itll be easier to put a rc car on it :)

This was my third Technic after my 20 year dark age and to be honest it a great looking model. I've experienced some problems with the flatbed, it gets stuck and I have to move it by hand in order to work again...I have not given it much time as I would like to but I'm sure this weekend I'll be able to sort it out without problems.

I finally have this truck, along with the bucket truck. I have to say that it is actually very impressive, even if it is slightly smaller than I was expecting (for some reason)

It was quite a nice build, although it was difficult to figure out what the functions actually did until the whole model was complete.

The two functions are pretty good, but both do something I didn't expect at all!

The first one, which is the tipping bed, tilts, and moves back as expected, but due to some funky construction, the rear wheels raise so that the back of the truck's structure touches the ground. I suppose this is so that the bed can touch the ground at a slightly shallower angle. I definitely didn't expect it any way (but then, I haven't actually watched any videos about it.

the second function is the wheel holders (not sure what they are actually called). They go in and out, but thanks to the interesting gearing, the end unfolds automatically. If you stop just before the end, it is flat against the ground, but if you continue a little bit longer, it raises up.

The unmotorised function, the winch is a bit weird. the locking mechanism doesn't really work, and it could have been designed better.

The truck itself looks amazing! I quite like the use of standard LEGO pieces on the front, and the panels really finish it off.

Regarding the wheels, something I would like is a wheel the same dimensions as the ones found in the bucket truck, except in the same style of the ones on the flatbed truck. With one at the front, and double at the back, I think it would look even better.

Overall, a really good set, even if it was a tiny bit on the expensive side.

Next up, the Unimog! I can't wait!

Just finished building This set and it is a great model,works very well,looks stunning and was not too easy of a build ether :)

This was the fourth model I bought after I got back to LEGO. It has grown on me because I did not liked it at first, for some rare reason the tipping of the bed does not smoothly, it appears to get stuck somewhere. I have checked it and it gets stuck on the wheel lift mechanism and I have no idea how o fix it, anyone else had this situation?

I picked up this set a few months ago. Not bad at all! I was pleasantly surprised when I figured out that the rear "suspension" lowers when the bed slides back. Clever feature.

Any instructions for that mod with the rear tailgate?

I have made a quick drawing of the tail gate,you will need to use your initiative in order to fix it to the truck.

Rear lift fork - I rebuilt this several times. I followed the instructions for orientating axles, but found I needed to rotate + remesh some gears to get the correct performance.

Disassembly of cab to remove batteries - meh. I don't like that on the 8285 truck either. Other sets do it very nicely, e.g to 8043 B model.

Braking effect on winch (using friction pin) would improve playability - similar to rescue helicopter B model.

I couldn't agree more. i got this set for Christmas and built it the first day. i have to say that i have no complaints.

shows it's nimble driving capabilities. He wrote on the LUGPol Forum (in the original Polish and in this English translation):

"The idea was born to him while watching the relationship of the Dakar Rally. My intention was to build a remote-controlled truck unit Iveco resembling Team de Rooy:

I like that , looks like it needs larger wheels.

Looks pretty cool but they need to hijack an 8264 for some flat yellow panels for the top.

The height of the body looks to low down. It could do with being a bit higher, for more ground clearance.
