enrgie Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Those windows on the bicycle shop work very well. It looks the part. Quote
Roger Rabbit Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Thanks Roger Rabbit , I too am very excited for it to progress. Soon it will be completed (that's if I can't think of anything else to put in it) What's gonna happen when they release more modular sets then?? Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted June 3, 2011 Author Posted June 3, 2011 What's gonna happen when they release more modular sets then?? Not sure. But I do have a plan in the back of my head. I can either move the pets shop and the apartment down the sides so they are next to the railway tracks and next to the GE and CC then that will leave me room for a modular to go into there place. Or I could move some other buildings like the City House underneath so I can have a long stretch of buildings Quote
PecataD Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Your city is great.. keep it to enlarge! I like it.I hope that my become so large. Quote

These buildings fit each other in size and structure. And you still have some open spots around. Alternatively, you could move the hill to the beach, where you have planned the light house to be. Then the light house could move further out the coast line. That would give you even more space for buildings in the city. By the way, it looks really good with the ice cream parlor on top of the hill Quote

The only building I have planned to go underneath is the police station which at the moment is sitting all by it's self on the carpet collecting dust So I want to try and get that into the layout as soon as possible. I'll consider moving the cinema, Pizzera, bank and house underneath. i'm thinking pf having a more residential area underneath. What do you think? originally I did want the hill next to the beach as that would be the most sensible place to put it, But after may times of reorganising and trying to get it to fit in, I couldn't find a place which was right for it? Anyway still no sign of that order so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow which happens to be my birthday so that would be abit weird More updates on there way Quote
HighFlyer Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 (edited) I've heard this and was wondering if there was any truth in it. I recently got back into Lego and am treating myself when my exams are over and I've moved house (where I get a converted loft, where I hope to build many a lego set ), and I don't know which one to go for as I really don't wanna miss out on the Grand Emporium.. I went into London to buy the city Marina a couple of days ago, and even the likes of Emerald Night and Medieval Market Village were in stock. However, the only exclusive not in stock was the Grand Emporium... EDIT: Sorry screwed up the reply to a quote . Anyway, awesome city "TYB", but I hate to see some great sets not being shown on the table, especially the police station Edited June 4, 2011 by Zorbas Quote fixed ;) Quote
Zorbas Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Your layout is forming very nicely TYB, nice mixture of official sets and MOCs. I too agree that the addition of more minifigs and vehicles will make your city look more busy and more "alive" and the only thing I would consider changing is the square with the small fountain park. Although that it looks great where it is, that particular square looks a bit empty. Why not add some more trees or even shorten the fountain and place a small shop or a small snack bar next to the fountain? Happy birthday btw and keep the expansion going! Quote

Hopefully they will be in the city soon so everybody can see them Your layout is forming very nicely TYB, nice mixture of official sets and MOCs. Thank you Zorbas, The park area is my main concern at the moment. I've been adding more flowers and trees to it and over the past couple of days which will hopefully make it look better. I've used the tree which came with the Log cabin on the corner of the park and that really makes a difference, I'll get pictures up tomorrow. A small snack shop sounds a great Idea, theres already an ice-cream stand there so I'll make something a lot different. Quote

Though it's a shame to divide the city in a upper and lower part, it seems to be necessary with the sets waiting to be included in the city. And it would be nice to see the police station back in town, instead of collecting dust. And I think more residential areas would be great. It's a shame the hill doesn't fit in at the beach, it would have been perfect there. Quote

I didn't get the Lego order on my birthday so it might turn up on Monday (6th), and if it doesn't I might actually go crazy Anyway, I'm having the table measured again so I can have the boards to go on the bottom made. It's going to be difficult to get them all in so I'm having them made in sections. I hope everything goes to plan Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted June 5, 2011 Author Posted June 5, 2011 This is just what I've done to the city lately while waiting for the order to arrive - I've added another bench to the left side of the park, a small tree in the corner and some more flowers. I also plan to add a small food stall in the bottom left corner The tree I added in the corner really looks nice I've swapped the FB and the GG. I think it looks alot better from the front and the back which you will see further down. The FB looks better next to the GE I've made the roofs alot more lively buy putting the BBQ and the umbrella back on the GG. on the FB roof you can see the crew enjoying there break in the sun A closer view of the GG rooftop C & C welcome Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Very nice update and more to look forward to, this is going to be one really good city Quote
Roger Rabbit Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Good improvements, I just noticed that if the fire brigade need to leave out the back door, they'll be hit by a train though!! And I was just wondering, where did you get that awesome wind turbine..?? Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Excellent improvements 'TYB', nice classic town style park with pond....keep those changes comming and Brick On 'TYB' ! Quote
Fuzzylegobricks Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Very nice changes! The gates of the FB make the track a exciting spot. Quote
HighFlyer Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I wish I had a lego city like that! Loving the updates, especially the pond. Where did you get the transparent blue water plate for the pond?? Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Thank you for the kind comments Good improvements, I just noticed that if the fire brigade need to leave out the back door, they'll be hit by a train though!! And I was just wondering, where did you get that awesome wind turbine..?? . I got the wind turbine from S@H (It's not available anymore but I'm sure if you want it it's probably still available at some stores) Wow! Could you add a block of flats in? A block of flats would be interesting in the city but I'm really lacking windows and doors at the moment. I'll have a go at building one sometime in the future when I have more pieces and time to build bigger MOC's I wish I had a lego city like that! Loving the updates, especially the pond. Where did you get the transparent blue water plate for the pond?? The transparent plate was from the 10184 town plan or the 10216 bakery. Sadly the order hasn't arrived so hopefully they WILL actually arrive soon and if they don't I'll just continue to add more and more things to the city Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Small update without any pictures (I'll have them up tomorrow for you). Finally I removed the Switch track from behind the FB and replaced it with some flex track which has plates on to keep it straight. It looks a lot better and gives more room behind the modulars. Still no sign of the sets and I'm beginning to get a bit frustrated with the order . With a bit of luck it will arrive tomorrow. And I really hope it does because I've spent the last couple of days just sitting there looking at my city wondering what else I can add to help improve it, but with out those new sets I think that's impossible. Quote
Piranha Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 looks good and wow those sets are taking a long time Quote
Vindicare Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Dude...TYB, nothing yet? Or is your absence my answer, and you're off frantically putting piece upon piece and setting them in your city for the long awaited update? I hope so! Quote
The Yellow Brick Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 Layout Okay here's the moment you've been waiting for.... The sets have finally arrived . I spent yesterday afternoon building them all and it took me at least 5 hours to build them all. - As you can see there have been some changes to the beach and I'll go into more detail later. you can also see the pet shop sandwiched between the CC and the GG The back of the building looks great and the train track also looks alot better Now onto the beach - I've made alot of changes to it but there is a good reason why, When marina was in it's origonal planned place it just didn't look right. The lighthouse and the Marina are very different in size and it didn't look right when they were placed together. Thats why I have moved the marina to the other side (you might notice aswell that I have mirrored it to make it fit in. That's all for now so if you have any questions about these changes don't hesitate to ask Quote

Thank you iDave, I've enjoyed seeing it grow into a great city and I've just been looking at some photos which shows my first city I ever built. I must say it doesn't look as good as this one . I will be posting a picture of the lighthouse lit up in the dark. it really looks very nice. Quote
