Hoboman Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Capt. Bluebeard, I just read your post and want to make sure; you know this thread is not a trade thread, right? It is a "Who wants this for free" thread. By posting those pictures you are offering those, for free, to someone. Is that what you ment to do? Hoboman

foolio93 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 In addition to the things mentioned above, I'm adding: X 6 (dark gray), and x 14 (white). I'll take a few of those white pieces and a few axles too.
chuckie8646 Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Capt. Bluebeard, If your not worried about trading. Id love those mummies please I think they are sooo cool Thank you Charlie
fred67 Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 (edited) I think we need to redo this thread... The idea that someone starts by giving, but then it can only flow from giver to the next giver to the next giver doesn't really work. Frankly, while there's been a few things I'm interested in, I'm mainly into giving stuff I know I will not find useful. But with all my additions, and all the giving that's been going on, it's hard to know what's left. If we could do something like the CMF trading thread for PIF (pay it forward), or just call it "for free," where people can have a single post with what they have to offer, and handle requests strictly through PM, it might end up being a lot cleaner. No replies in the thread, no second posts for any members... just keep editing your own post. For now, I'm going to clean out my previous posts and put what I have left here. --FOR FREE:------------------------------------------------------------------- Shipping: I may or may not ask receiver to pay shipping via paypal, depending on how much I'm sending. Please PM me if you are interested! Pictures link to larger pictures or BL catalog. Duplo, The Promo Duplos are not available. x 2 Jack Stone Pilot X 6 (dark gray) (EDIT: 2 left) bricks and plates with axles (or pins, really). x 14 (white) --Pending:-------------------------------------------------------------------- None. --Given to date:-------------------------------------------------------------- , Akro Mills small drawer separators, 4 helicopter sleds. chuckie8646 Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 (edited) Hey everybody, I just received in the mail to day some really cool helicopter skids that I got off of this thread. I was really pleased with them and i also really think this is a good idea for a thread because so many people have things they are not using. So I have an addition. Up for whoever wants it is a sealed City street sweeper guy set 5611. I think its a pretty nifty little set and really completes a lego city or town. I have attached a picture from google but it is sealed. To make it easier for shipping I would like to open it and fold box flat as so to make for cheaper shipping options but if you prefer it sealed we can talk. Please PM me if you are interested. Thanks Charlie Edited August 21, 2011 by chuckie8646
chuckie8646 Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 The set has been claimed. hope this thread continues Charlie

fred67 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 (edited) To people who want the free stuff... it is not unreasonable to ask for shipping and packaging costs. Sometimes I have sent stuff for free, completely on my dime, but sometimes if it requires a new package that I don't have (like a padded envelope) and I don't have old stamps to use (in the U.S. this means stamps before "first class forever," where the 'value' of the stamp was less than first class mail... I had a lot of these and used them to ship to people for free, but now I don't have any more), then it kind of bothers me when someone asks for something then cancels because they don't want to pay a couple of bucks for shipping and a new padded envelope, after I've taken the time to separate out those items and weigh and calculate shipping. It's not like I'm making a profit, let alone getting anything out of it at all (to date I have not even asked for anything from anyone else, period). Not only are you getting pieces for free, but my time and effort to send it... is it really that much to ask that you pay for shipping and packaging materials? EDIT: I'd like to mention that, in the case that made me write this, with the amount I was asking for I was still not recouping my shipping expense + the cost of the padded envelope. It's very annoying. Edited August 29, 2011 by fred67
Donut Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Fred has brought up a really good point. I hate to be the one who says this and I often avoid controversial topics, but this just doesn't sit well with me. I feel that the good intention of this thread has been misused and taken advantage of by a few individuals. The purpose of this thread: The idea is someone posts parts/kits/figures they do not want, someone else claims them. That person would then in turn post something of theirs. (cycle repeats) There is more joy in giving than hoarding things we do not use. I think this is a fun and innovative way to share our love for the brick. But if you cheat the system, it is not fun for the others who have donated their time and effort. By accepting someone's "free stuff", you have made a commitment to give back. So shame on you (you know who you are) for taking advantage of someone else's good will. I know you're a better person than that.

I agree. Do we need a mods backing, or should we just go ahead with a new thread?
Hoboman Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 As someone who has given away items and not taken anything back, I want to say I am unsure this thread has failed. I do not know all of your experiances but mine has been posative. The folks who asked for my stuff were a mix. So I hope that we do nto loose that feeling I got by trying to formalize some kind of trackng system etc. Just wanted to add my .02 into the mix.

WhiteFang Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 So I hope that we do not loose that feeling I got by trying to formalize some kind of tracking system etc. Guys, I have been following this for quite awhile. Neither do I want to make this a formal approach nor closing this initiative for good, since nothing good and positive spirit came out of it eventually. I understands the concern but there are times where people take advantage of it knowingly or unknowingly. I will also think about this, to see what I can to streamline this, similar to the TCMP.
