Well it may not be the most inspired but I wanted to do something different to Technic and my nieces Mars Mission collection made me wonder about a base on Mars. She has recently given up her collection but I will complete this anyway although it is going to be packed up for a while due to space (sorry) issues.

The base is being built in a crater for shelter from the hot sun and raging dust storms. It has a control building linked to an accomodation and research building, a garden unit and a communications tower. The power generators and oxygen storage tanks can also be seen.

Of course they need transport so as well as surface transport there is a shuttle craft. I liked the Star Wars Republic Attack Gunship so modified it for Mars.

The surface crawler has yet to be fitted with a crane boom and NXT functions.

This is good.

Very sterile looking, very crisp. I like it.

The vehicles you've made also look really good.

It's really big too, I'm always impressed by big bases, and this is no exception.

That's a lot of brand new looking white!

Weill done, impressive work.

Oh wow, gotta love that Mars Mission version of the RGS. You really did a great overall job on this Mars base, particularly the nice combination of the clean white surface with the trans-orange glass pieces. The colored effect of the interior shot is quite artistic too. Great job!

Thanks guys, when completed I expect it to cover 6 48x48 bases so quite a bit of work to be done yet, a lot more parts required especially tan slopes for the crater walls. The sharp colours of Mars Mission are very catching thats one of the things that made me want to do this, plus the potential for expansion, think RBR size spaceship maybe? As mentioned I want to try some nxt for the crawler so I am enjoying this project, a lot of variety possible within the scifi theme.

Very 2000:A space Odyssey,

I love it! The look is very nice, If you added more baseplates sometime then you could create more of the harse Mars environment.

I really like the futuristic style, lots of spare white pieces eh?

I'm a conformist!!

Thanks, parted out a couple of Taj Mahal sets which gave me a good quantity of white but still having to buy the special pieces, closed my store last year and put most of the stock into my own collection. I was planning on 6 baseplates but the hanger building I just designed on LDD will mean another couple. That wont be till I have moved later in the year.

I definitely did not put in that post "I'm a conformist!!"

Sorry for the bump but that freaked me out.

Hello!

A pleasure to look at! :classic: You've created the right feeling for this theme. The construction of the station with the large support pillars creates an excellent futuristic look. :classic:

Cheers,

This is an impressive WIP. I especially like the Modified gunship  Have you thought of building the Interplanetary Shuttle? it would be interesting what your impession of the mars shuttles will look like :classic:

The shuttle wont be this year, I am collecting parts for the hangar at present and have started the shuttle but wont be able to finish it for a bit, I think the tail end will look like this though

Nice back end. You might think about some things in the space between the cones and the ridge of the orange "tires", in that valley, if you understand where I'm talking about. Not sure what yet (small cones, trans orange cylinders, greebles, hoses, dunno) but that space looks too empty for my tastes.

Unfortunately I cant show what I intended to do as LDD wont let me put it there, but have to keep some surprises for the finished project anyway

that tank type one is awesome

Cheers, the plan is for that to be an NXT controlled engineering vehicle that can drive around without hitting things, just a simple program as I havent really done much NXT yet. There is a MM style tank in the scifi MOC index you might like then.

I felt the shuttle was lacking in colour a little so added a few coloured pieces to it as well as an undercarriage with wheels so it will be able to roll in and out of the hangar when built.

I also found the crawler was not going to be big enough for fitting the NXT components so I have had to change plan and fit power functions instead. It also needed more colour and details.

The engineers have finished for the day so have picked up their toolbox and heading back to base

Not a good pic of them in the cockpit with their displays, the controls are joysticks
