Brickdoctor Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) Actually, It has always been Darth Vader and clones. No, there was the blue eclipse design that had no characters and the classic one that was TPM-based. (I'm still waiting for a stormtrooper one though) There's a Stormie on the 10th Anniversary design.EDIT: Just realized you're talking about one featuring the Stormie front and center. Silverface Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Ok, thanks! But why Darth Maul is in so important role in those boxes, I don't think he's that important person! Quote
Matiam92 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Ok, thanks! But why Darth Maul is in so important role in those boxes, I don't think he's that important person! Hello... he was the first Sith the Jedi saw for like 1000 years... He is a very important character IMO Quote

He is a very important character IMO Yes, I understand that, but I still don't think he's that important character that you should put his face to every single new box! And by the way the Jedi had seen Palapatine, but they just didn't know he's a Jedi Edited March 1, 2011 by Silverface Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Yes, I understand that, but I still don't think he's that important character that you should put his face to every single new box! He's one of the two leading antagonists for one sixth of the whole saga and the movie that is to be released next. That's pretty important. A story without an antagonist is just plain boring. Imagine Ep. 1 without any lightsaber battles. Quote

nex Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 That looks sweet. Might mean he really is alive (in the Nightsisters trilogy.) Quote
The Legonater Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Actualy- Maul is very important. Like Doc said, he's the main antagonist in the movie. Plus he's the most competant one tracking down the Orb. Quote
Silverface Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 (edited) Death doesn't lessen his importance. Is Darth Vader not an important character in Jedi? I didn't mean that. I meant Maul is only on the first one, of course Vader is an important character he's maybe the most important. Maul is not, Maul is a character in star wars because Lucas had to invent a person like that, but it could be easily changed, Vader couldn't Edited March 1, 2011 by Silverface Quote
CommanderFox Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Not bad! I wonder if TLG will do that clear front as well, it would be pretty cool for awhile. I can see this is going to be the new rumor topic for 2012. Its already moving at light speed. CF Quote
Praiter Yed Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I have to agree with Silverface here. IMO Maul is merely a rent-a-baddie thrown in for the Jedi's money-shot at the end of TPM. He may well be the first Sith the Jedi have encountered in millennia, it doesn't change the fact that Star Wars is about Anakin Skywalker's fall from grace . I don't really see Maul as being iconic enough for box-art but ultimately I'm more concerned about what's in the box than what's on the front. Quote

Eh, I agree that he's not the most important character, but he does have a rather extensive back story and as far as the upcoming release is concerned, he is pretty important. You guys should read Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter. Great book. I don't really see Maul as being iconic enough for box-art but ultimately I'm more concerned about what's in the box than what's on the front. Same here. Of course, I too would rather have an OT character to drool over on my boxes, but what I'm saying here is that the choice makes sense. Quote

Yeah the choice makes sense-a B1 is just PT, Obi appears in I-IV, Anikan is all saga, padme is PT, out of all the TPM main characters-Maul is the most iconic to TPM, next to Qui-Gon IMO. Quote

Sadder that he's one of the most revered characters BECAUSE he didn't appear long enough for Lucas to ruin him. Quote

I've only just read that the 3D movies are being released annually . In which case, I have to agree - Maul makes sense. But now that poses the question... Quote
brickbuilder Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Seriously guys? Do you really want box art with young Anikan on it? Darth Maul is a great choice for TPM, probably the best. The only other choice I can imagine is Qui-gon. Maybe Obi-wan. And I agree with CommanderFox, this is already looking like a 2012 rumour topic Edited March 2, 2011 by brickbuilder Quote
Tamamono Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Nice new box art! I think this confirms more PM LEGO in 2012... Thanks for the news grogall and KimT! Quote
Ritz Brick Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 If there was a box with Anakin on it, I'd faint (in the bad way). When I hear "Phantom Menace" or "Episode 1" I automatically think of Maul. Maul being red really contrasts nicely against the blue and white. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Nice new box art! I think this confirms more PM LEGO in 2012... Thanks for the news grogall and KimT! Not really. This is just box art for all SW licensed products by various manufacturers. (don't get me wrong, I expect we'll see Ep. 1 sets, but this is no guarantee on its own) Quote
DarthR2-D2 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Hello... he was the first Sith the Jedi saw for like 1000 years... He is a very important character IMO Nobody knew his name except for Sidious the the Trade Federation. The Jedi called him "that one Sith Lord that Obi-Wan killed" Quote

Praiter Yed Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Well, does they really have to be from the first episode, if there would be Anakin from the second or third episode, that wouldn't be so bad? The box art coincides with the 3D release of TMP in 2012. 2013 will probably see the 3D release of ATOC (depending on the success of TPM), when we will no-doubt see new box graphics representing Episode II. Although I hate to use the term in relation to Darth Maul, he is probably the most 'iconic' character in Episode I therefore he gets the mug-shot. Quote
