Yeah, you can make $100 after like 2 or 3 days of work at almost any job (like 20 hours of actual labor?), it's not much really, especially if it gives your kid something better to do than torture bugs or be a cannibal or tag walls in the neighborhood.

I like how the possibilities for little Timmy's alternative activities are two relatively harmless activities (all things considered), and cannibalism.

100 freaking bucks for a year?????????? Is this for sure or unknown?

If it's for sure, there's no way i'm paying that much. That's more then double the cost of Brickmaster. unless i'm mistaken, the Brickmaster subscription was only about 40 bucks.

To me, Brickmaster was nearly perfect but it just needed 2 small corrections. 1) worldwide would be nice. I live in the us, but there are a bunch of people on the Lego site that want it outside of the us and 2) I do believe that there really should of been some sort of option to choose from a list the themes you like and you'd get sent from the list. I am not interested in star wars or bionacle but that was what i got mostly the second year I had the subscription. Well, i should say second and last year due to issues with sets.

Did Brickmaster send you 1,000+ pieces and building tutorials? No.

I haven't seen that much of this yet, but as far as parts per dollar goes, it's a good value. It just doesn't interest me.

*looks around for DS*

There wasn't that many pieces or hints, but at least it was a reasonable price. 100 bucks is to much to spend for MBA. Brickmaster was about 6.66 for each delivery. if 100 is the price, that's about 16.66 per deliver. That's 2.5 times more compared to the old.

And now i'm off to find out where my DSi XL walked off to.

No, MBA is in two installments, which is $50 per delivery. But they're sending you 500+ pieces. Which is still a good value.

*walks in w/ DSi XL*

yea, but isn't 2 installments of 50 bucks each still 100 dollars? No matter how you slice it, a hundred bucks is a hundred bucks.

And no matter how you slice it, 1,000+ pieces for $100 is still a good deal.

But anyways, it's up to you whether to buy it, and personally I don't really want it either since I don't want to deal with a program that'll teach me what I probably already know.

It sounds rather cheesy; though that is to be expected to a certain degree being this is going to be made for kids.

As to whether or not MBA will be a good value for your money I think we'll have to reserve judgement until we actually see some good pictures of what parts are included. If 200 of the parts are just technic pins, with the rest being very basic parts then the $100 dollars would be to much. On the other hand it could turn out that they contain excellent parts hence maintaining a good value for your money.

I look forward to learning more about the program.

...And then you have to consider that for some people (like myself), the magazine itself would have a certain inherent value. Even if it's probably geared towards kids, an AFOL could probably still learn some new things from it (just as you can learn new things about the set design process from the kid-oriented LEGO Creator Designer's Desk).

Consider the price of a non-LEGO monthly magazine subscription. For example, Nintendo Power magazine subscriptions are US$20. Of course, that's a monthly rather than a bi-monthly subscription, so we'll say it's $10 for six issues. And it's around 90-100 pages per issue, so six issues is somewhere between 500 and 600 pages total-- not a far cry from what Master Builder Academy offers.

Thus, it's not really 1000 bricks for $100 dollars, but more like 1000 bricks for around $90 dollars-- an even better deal. Now, naturally, I can't vouch for the quality of the magazine content until I've seen it. That's why I'm thinking I may just get one subscription to share with my twin brother, rather than a separate subscription for each of us (which is what we had been doing with Brickmaster).

Also, the parts probably won't just be basic parts. If the green jet pictured in the LEGO Club news article is indeed one of the sets, it has various specialized pieces, including the new windscreen piece from the Imperial V-Wing Starfighter set. And then, beyond that, it never hurts to have a good supply of basic parts, especially if they're in less-frequent colors like bright yellowish green (lime).

eh, still seems like a rip off on the price. yea 10 per piece is a good bargin, but some on Lego.com see a truthfully great price to be 7 or 8 cents per piece. And if it is $100 dollars, it still sounds like a rip-off. Who knows what the tips could be.

Yea, maybe it'll be good tips but what if it's just nothing more then tips you can get for FREE of the net or if it's nothing but common knowledge?

Even my mother sees this price is a being a rip-off.

Is this all still hypothetical as the first post in this thread seems to imply? Or are there new details released about the MBA? I'm confused as to why people are talking about 1000 bricks for $100 and such...

Well, the poll is would u pay 100 bucks for it.

Why they're saying "1000 bricks for $100" is arguing that it is a "Good deal" b/c it works out to a dime a brick.

I see it as a lousy deal. The price is 2.5 time higher then brickmaster. I'd rather have a low, afforadable price for a yearly lego subscription.

Well, the way I'm reading the first post the part about 1000+ bricks doesn't seem hypothetical at all. I have no idea whether the cost is hypothetical, but from my point of view it doesn't seem unreasonable. It might be a little excessive for most parents to get their kids on a whim, but I can see a subscription making a great Christmas or birthday gift.

Also, I have a question, MinifigFreak2010. Is your mother an AFOL? Because people who aren't LEGO fans themselves sometimes have a hard time looking beyond cost and looking at inherent value. As far as I'm concerned, I loved Brickmaster magazine, even if a lot of it was just a lot of childish product placement. I certainly expect this to be every bit as valuable from my personal perspective.

She's not a builder but she does like watching me build sets sometimes. However, she does see the price as ridicilous.

I'm hoping more for sure will be known during the march/april Lego club magizine shipment. I really want to join back up esp since this membership looks more into sets of a certain object then themes.

The reason why I quit brickmaster after 2 years was b/c the 2nd year i was in it had mostly star wars/bionacle.

You talking the magazine content or the sets? There were only two BIONICLE Brickmaster sets (at least, only two after they started making "Brickmaster exclusives"), and there was only one per year: one in 2008 and one in 2009.

I myself liked the Star Wars Brickmaster sets because whether or not you like Star Wars, they were a great source of useful and diverse gray pieces. The BIONICLE Brickmaster sets were pretty useless, though. Unless you were already a BIONICLE fan with a decent-sized collection, most of the pieces weren't very useful. And even from a BIONICLE fan's perspective, the first one was still ugly as sin (although the second one was fairly decent).

I meant that I heard that more info about MBA will be revealed in the March/april issue. On the lego site, I found this when I entered a code on lego:

"ATTENTION ALL LEGO® BUILDERS! In 2011, the LEGO Club is launching an all-new program dedicated to making YOU an even better LEGO builder than ever before!

By joining the LEGO Master Builder Academy (MBA for short), you’ll be able to find out the secret tips and building techniques of the real LEGO Master Builders who create the official LEGO sets and super-models.

LEGO MBA members will receive special designer handbooks in the mail that include behind-the-scenes information and inspiration straight from the Master Builders, all-new model building instructions, and (of course!) the bricks you’ll need to build them. Each kit and handbook spotlight a fan-favorite LEGO building theme, including spaceships, robots, cars, planes, creatures and more!

The LEGO Master Builders will show you how to go beyond the instructions in designing and building your own original LEGO creations. You’ll also be able to improve your building skills and creativity as you advance through skill levels on the all-new LEGO Master Builder Academy website.

And did we mention the exclusive collectible LEGO MBA Minifigures, color-coded to your latest building level and complete with buildable accessories for each themed handbook?

The LEGO Master Builder Academy is launching in 2011. Look for more information coming soon in the March-April issue of LEGO Club Magazine!"

Check the last line. That was what i'm talking about.

Im completely up for this. I'm a sucker for exclusive minifigs, so that alone is enough to get me to buy this. But the exclusive sets is just the icing on the cake.

I just have to hope this is available in the UK. :sweet:

The LEGO® Master Builder Academy is Coming!

Hey out there, LEGO Club and LEGO BrickMaster members! Here at The LEGO Group, we’re busy getting ready to launch something new that we think you’ll really like: the LEGO Master Builder Academy!

The mission of the LEGO Master Builder Academy program is simple: “Take Your Building to the Next Level”. And what do we mean by that? We want to help you use the expertise and official techniques of the real LEGO Master Builders to discover how to create better, stronger and cooler-looking models that you design all by yourself!

LEGO MBA will be a multi-level LEGO training experience. You know how in martial arts like karate, there are different colored belts that signify a level of achievement and rank? LEGO MBA will be like that too, with multiple levels of achievement. Each level has its own special color, but instead of a belt, you’ll receive a new exclusive MBA Minifigure in the color of the latest building skill level that you’ve achieved!

The first year of the LEGO MBA program features two skill levels – green Level 1 and yellow Level 2 – with more to come later on. You’ll master each level through exclusive LEGO MBA building kits and technique-filled Design Handbooks, three per level, each including pieces and instructions dedicated to a famous theme like space, robots, cars and more.

You’ll be able to find additional challenges and building ideas on the LEGO MBA website, along with skill tests to level up your building even more. As you meet and beat each challenge, your friends and family will be amazed at how much your building skills and creativity have advanced!

So what do you say? Want to take your LEGO building to the next level? Get ready, because the all-new LEGO Master Builder Academy launches this June in the US with plans to expand to other markets next year!

The LEGO Master Builder Academy (LEGO MBA for short) is a series of sets, guidebooks and online experiences engineered to teach fans 8+ to become better and more creative builders. Learn how to create your own sets using the world around you as inspiration, just like the LEGO Master Builders do.

LEGO MBA begins in June, and preorders begin May 1st. Purchase the first set in LEGO Stores or through LEGO Shop At Home. Subscribe to receive 5 more LEGO Master Builder Academy kits this year.

Watch for updates at the new LEGO Club site. Club code: LEGOMBA

A copy of the email sent to former Brickmaster subscribers is posted here.

No suprise there. The search function doesn't work properly. I've tried hunting for topics and I come up empty and/or with a ton of stuff that is NOT related to what I need.

And is there any word on how much it'll cost?

Posted

I really hope that the price is unoffical. That is way to much for a lot of people. For me, the 40 buck on the BM thing was about the max i'm willing to go. I don't have that kind of money... Well, I do, but I'm trying to save up my money incase nintendo releases a 3dsXL. plus 100 is way to much for 1 year. 2 years MAYBE, 1 NO.

I'm going email lego now.

Didn't you already ask this question in the other topic? Anyways, it's gonna be $100/year.

Yes, and just gave the same rant all over again in this topic when there is already a link to the old topic. :hmpf_bad:
