Posted March 2, 201114 yr I'd put this in the display thread, but there's some MOC's in this. Alright. So after buying a few OT ships, and then a few more, it ballooned into the idea of having a full display devoted to just the vehicles of the OT. And then, the OT in general. I put together a display in Paint and designed what I'd want the final design to be. The six OT planets would be framed posters. I figured there was enough fan art out there to find themed posters of the planets. The shelves would have the Lego sets according to the scene. Ships in italics mean I own them. Death Star Plans: Tantive IV Devastator Tatooine: Sandcrawler T-16 Skyhopper Landspeeder Imperial Landing Craft Battle of Yavin: X-Wing Y-Wing TIE Fighter (modified, color) TIE Advanced x1 Battle of Hoth: (moc battle, work in progress) Snowspeeder AT-AT Asteroid Field: TIE Bomber (modified, color) Slave-1 Millennium Falcon ('11 model) Tatooine: Jabba's Palace (future set) Jabba's Sail Barge Battle Of Endor, space: A-Wing B-Wing Home One TIE Interceptor (modified, color) Imperial Shuttle Battle Of Endor, ground: AT-ST 74-Z speeder bike Individual shelves: Death Star Death Star II Cloud City (future set) Executor (future set or MOC) The shelves were purchased at Home Depot. While white, black, and light orange were obtainable colors, I settled for an dirt brown for the Endor shelf which ended up working out just fine. The posters I found in one theme, but I hated the poster for Yavin IV. The Alderaan poster I ended up liking the best so I used that one instead. The wall wasn't long enough so I had to wrap it around to the adjoining walls. The Death Star was put in the center so the wall looks a little more balanced till I get more sets. Here's what I have so far: . Endor is done minus trees. The scene is the Empire about to ambush the rebels in the shield bunker, and the Ewoks getting ready to ambush the Empire. On the far left, Wicket is being chased by Scout troopers after stealing a speeder bike. Any suggestions so far? Let me know! I apologize for the below average pictures, when it's finished I'll get a better camera.
March 2, 201114 yr That is looking really REALLY nice. I'll have to do something like this with all y republic MOCs... Anyways, might I suggest some pictures of landscapes behind the Dios? If you use glossy photo paper it looks very nice. This would be most effective for the Blue hoth sky.

Some brickbuilt scenery would help as well; canyon walls and buildings for Tatooine, some Death Star paneling, asteroids, etc. If you're willing to use modified sets and MOCs, a few more custom ships would make this look nicer, simply because some sets, such as 6212 and the new Falcon are just so... ugly. Bruce Lowell's X-wing would work great, as would Flail's modified 4504 (because there should be instructions for both of those). Larry Lars's T-47 should also be fairly easy to replicate from pictures (guess you could PM siseon or something). 10198 looks ridiculous next to 6211; perhaps the mini model from 10030 would work better? The Home One playset also looks pretty out of place. Perhaps another X-wing or the Falcon? (Or even better, put in a couple of Legostein's mini capital ships - though you'll have to ask him first) Maybe another Star Destroyer on the asteroid field shelf (a midi-scale one could work.) It doesn't look like all the sets you described would fit on the prescribed shelves... The land dioramas look kind of busy compared to the other shelves.

Feel free to PM me as well if you want cutaway shots of the T-16 or T-47. Maybe another Star Destroyer on the asteroid field shelf (a midi-scale one could work.) ...and a MINI one to round out the selection. Forced-perspective could be a great tool when working with these small shelves.
March 2, 201114 yr This is a really great way of showing your collection. Great idea working with the posters.
March 2, 201114 yr Author That is looking really REALLY nice. I'll have to do something like this with all y republic MOCs... Anyways, might I suggest some pictures of landscapes behind the Dios? Some brickbuilt scenery would help as well; canyon walls and buildings for Tatooine, some Death Star paneling, asteroids, etc. I will be putting in scenery as I go but getting the other sets is still top priority. The Death Star will likely stay open to show off the rooms inside; the Death Star 2 will show off the paneling look. I may consider asteroids but I'm not planning on doing any space additions. I make modifications if it pains me to look at it, so far only the blue colors of the TIE sets needed changed IMO. I will likely modify the oversized cockpit of the Falcon as well. But I have to pick and choose my battles, I'm not working with unlimited money and wanting perfection would mean I'd have to mod every ship. And I'd still be disappointed after because I'd never get perfection. Maybe another Star Destroyer on the asteroid field shelf (a midi-scale one could work.) Not repeating. Other than the money to do so, there'd be X-Wings and Falcon's everywhere. I want each shelf to be completely unique. 10198 looks ridiculous next to 6211; perhaps the mini model from 10030 would work better? Another instance where I have to pick and choose. If I did that, well, the snowspeeders aren't to scale with the AT-AT...and the AT_ST isn't to scale with the speeder bikes....it'd just never end. Besides, the display is more about showing off the TLG sets than it is building my own. I'm just trying to group them together or add some scenery so they can all work together to create the display instead of a mismatch of sets on shelves. It doesn't look like all the sets you described would fit on the prescribed shelves... Which won't fit? Note that I haven't put up the two small shelves that go under the Alderaan and Endor posters yet. The land dioramas look kind of busy compared to the other shelves. The land dioramas are a chance to show off the minifigs so they will be pretty busy. The space shelves could never be MOC'd even remotely accurately with such limited space so they're just ships on stands to show off the vehicles from the scene, not so much the scene itself. Since I'm thrown away space accuracy, I can show off the Death Star II battle plan scene and its unique minifigs than just having the A-Wing on a stand. Thanks for the advice so far everyone! Sorry to disappoint about scale and ship accuracy, but I have to draw the line somewhere. This is still Phase 1 though, so each shelf can and will look better as I add things to it.
March 2, 201114 yr Great job!!! I'm not a huge MOD/MOCer, and can appreciate wanting to feature only the Lego sets. Can't imagine anyone being disappointed to have such an impressive display.
March 2, 201114 yr I am jealous! That is very nice, you have used lots of money for that collection! Good work!
March 2, 201114 yr Those posters look Rad, do you have big versions? I also love these posters. Edited March 2, 201114 yr by simonjedi
March 3, 201114 yr Those posters look Rad, do you have big versions? I also love these posters. Yes, it's a great collection/display and the posters work wonderfully. I'm a little jealous there's no way I'd be allowed to do anything like this at our house. You can see more of the posters here. You might be able to find hi-res versions by goggling the artists name. There's also some nice ones at starwars.com
