harton Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Nice looking tower! I hope to see more! Those curves, it is so win! Quote
Michael S Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 A few more sample floor plans from the final product. It's all modeled in MLCAD and uses about 20 submodels to put it together. About 7000 parts are documented, tho the actual build is about 3x that since I tend to leave off most of the detail work when working in CAD, then that stuff gets added at build-time. The first tower is the Aria tower. It's got a relatively simple design. It's named the Aria after the same-named tower in Las Vegas which gave me a lot of the inspiration for a multi-tower interconnected casino structure. (Altho it looks nothing like the Vegas counterpart). The second tower is the Tower of Terrace. This is just one sample -- every floor is significantly different and it looks sort of like a vertical puzzle when all put together... It's a play on the Tower of Terror ride at Disney World... but then ties into the terraces that you find on every level. The third tower is the Infinity Tower, and is called that for two reasons. it's the building you see on page one of this thread. For one, it's the tallest thing I've ever built, at 12 stories. It almost reaches the ceiling. The second is because of the inclusion of water... with infinity pools on several levels where minifigs can soak and swim while gazing out upon glorious views of the water. The building itself is actually a giant waterfall, with water running from top to bottom, pooling at many of the setbacks. The base of course was the hardest to build. Here's a sample: It was a major challenge creating interior access, particularly at the lower levels. Several of the walls are completely detachable to facilitate getting at the inside. Photos still to come! Quote
gazumpty Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 I love what your doing here...a real inspiration for any budding city designers out there :D Quote
harton Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 You got some good ideas there. Those staires are really neat, I hope to see it soon. I just don't understand your monorail railway, is it going under the tower or is it just a weird effect of the rendering? Quote
Michael S Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 The monorail goes thru the Tower of Terrace and the Aria. My standard monorail elevation is 13 bricks... high enough for trains to pass under. This makes for 13, 23, and 33 heights of monorail. I build it in an 8-stud standard layout, so as long as I center any monorail track on an 8-stud baseplate (2 studs on either side) and at those heights, the tracks that go thru various buildings will always line up with each other. This is the best pic I have at the moment, showing a very early construction phase of the Tower of Terrace Monorail Station. And here's how it looked in MLCAD... Quote
tomdobs55 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Wow just wow the renderings must take as long as building in this metropolis you have Quote
harton Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Ok now I understand! I really see it now. Seems nice lookig to me, the red caution band is a nice touch. But I got a question, do your color plates in the main staires are ther for design or in the final product it will be white? I also want to make you a suggestion, would it be better to add some vegetation, such as flowers around the tree or especially at the edge of your waiting area (the green corner in your MLCAD). I'm just saying that because by attention to detail, if the goal is to make a realistic creation, adding flowers at this place would be interesting for the harmonization between other buildings and of course to put some life (adding colors)! We must also think of that poor maintenance minifigs have to do! Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 (edited) What a huge tower. Want more photos!! Edited December 12, 2012 by The Player Nº1 Quote
WideWiiLover Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 I don't want to appear stupid but, what are you using for your layouts? I know you use MLCAD for buildings, but what did you use for your above full town layout? Thanks! Quote
Electricsteam Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Absolutley amazing! I would love to build a big town like that Quote
