Real headlights/taillights for 12V

Hey everybody

Wouldn't it be nice if your train lights actually changed from white to red when the train reverses direction?

No biggie with LEDs. These things are direction-sensitive, so I just built them into a 2x2 brick.

Just replace the regular 12V lightbrick with these ones and you're good to go

LED's need resistors that are suitable for the voltage they are supplied with unless fed with the very few volts they need. 12 volt and 5 volt LED's just have a suitable resistor built in so they operate on those voltages. all that is needed is a stock bicolour white /red led ( available from specialist normal model railway electronics suppliers ) and the appropriate resistor fitted inline. but a good job by the OP, come on LEGO, fingers out....

I'm just an 'oldie' that doesn't know zip about 9V, RC and/or PF trains.

My brick is made with the 'eighties' system in mind. Using the 1x6 brick and light prisms. Take a look at my third picture. If that'll fit into your train somehow, you're all set. My brick will work on 9V as well. Slightly less bright, of course, since 9V is less juice then 12V.
