As an example, the two Winter Village sets aren't that expensive, although a really good deal (parts/price ratio). But most of them have a significantly higher price point than the largest sets that are sold through retail outlets (Technic and Trains aside perhaps). What really sets them apart is the use of advanced building techniques though. Therefore, they also usually have a higher recommended age compared to other sets in the theme.

Okay, thank you. Now all I need to do is think of a clever building technique...

Wow =) I'll try to take part), I have a little question: is taken into account the fact whether the model should be similar to a set that would be even able to produce, or just be an enormous diorama?

This is because of possible competition issues, as I have seen here many Great Works)

It should be a D2C set like LEGO might produce it if they would make one for these themes. But that still leaves you quite a lot of room to play with the size as the existing D2C sets range from medium size to big. Most D2C are in the range of 50 Euro to 160 Euro, but there are some going up to 250 Euro and even 450 Euro. It should give options to people with not so enormous collections.

This sounds like an awesome contest, so I'm definitely going to join in on the fun! Will be my first too (got here via Brothers Brick) so I'm kind of exited about it. Thanks for clearing up the D2C bit in the thread comments; it's totally clear now :)

Good luck everyone!

Simulation if you like to call it that way. The aim is to make a MOC just like you think LEGO would do if they'd make a D2C set for one of these 3 action themes.

For example, an intricate modular building with flick-fire missiles.

Sounds like an amazing contest! Maybe EB could build the models and sell them from LDD for a profit?

Probably won't take part as my MOCs are CRAP, but hopefully should see some cool creations from, IMO, some of the best themes.

This might be a dumb question, but you can't do pairs of the themes or all three? Like Ninjago/Atlantis?

No, you can't for this contest. The entry needs to be one of those 3 themes.

Are we allowed to do "multi-up" images? or do they have to be a single shot per pic...and I'm guessing I can Photo Shop box art style?

Cheers in advance

Single shot per picture and no photo shop box art style for the six picture that are posted in the entry thread.

I want all contestants to have an equal chance in the votes based on their entry and not on their photo editing skills.

I didn't realize that I could have multiple entries. I guess I should have made my Royal Adventurer's Society of London's building my first entry. Pays to read the rules! Can't wait to make an entry into the contest.

Can I design the box too?

If you would like to, it might add to the visual appeal to your entry. :classic:

May I ask for a clarification on the above, to what point are we allowed or not to edit the pictures, background editing, design the box art? Thanks!

Oh, didn't remember that reply from Erdbeereis. Indeed, it''s confusing in light of my response.

Let me try to clear things up:

When voting I'd like people to compare apples to apples as much as possible, so you can touch up the picture by playing around with it for improving contrast, brighter/darker, clean up the background, etc. Only thing that I'd don't want is that someone goes all the way to make it look like a LEGO box (box art style) because a number of contestants will not have such skills giving their entry a possible disadvantage during voting. I'm referring only to the 6 pictures which you post in your entry thread, you can still link to Flickr for more pictures and there you can do whatever you want. Hope this clarifies and sorry for any confusion.

Now that is definitely the challenge here, if I understand well we need to restrain ourselves to a minimum parts so it looks like an actual set and not like a user MOC. (need to be sure before I start putting to much parts :P)

Yes, LEGO sets would always be limited to a certain size, however, the Eifel Tower, Taj Mahal and London Bridge (all D2C sets) were not really that small. It doesn't necessarily need to be big as there are also a lot of examples of smaller sized D2C sets.

without forgetting limited bricks, LEGO wouldn't tile an entire floor like a user would do, they would leave open studs (ex: the London Bridge a user would have tiled the water if he had the parts)

I'm curious about the judging criteria. Will the entries be judged on the basis of conformity to the style of the official Lego DtC sets? Or will they be judged as MOCs entered into a contest by AFOLs?

A good MOC by an AFOL has nearly no chance of becoming an official Lego set, DtC or otherwise. So, the criteria for judging will greatly impact the stategy of the MOCing...

I think I can answer this for you with this :)

Judging will take place by a public vote (trying to manipulate the vote in any way will get you disqualified)
