The April Lego Store Calendar states that "new elements from the official Series 1 minifigures would be available at the Lego store through the build a mini program' April Store Calendar

According to a store employee, this will include torsos, legs, heads, hats and hair but no accessories.

I'm actually excited about this because it will be a good way to get exactly what you want without having to use a bar-code system or dot-code system, especially for army builders.

So what do you think? Will TLC release other series into the build a mini bin? Or is it just series 1 because it was sold out so quickly?

That's really good news, as I missed a few s1 figures. However, I have no LEGO stores near me :cry_sad: ! LEGO, you really need to make a branch in Scotland!

I really do not think that all the parts will be there, I would guess it's going to be from the least popular minifigs.

I am thinking that even though you may not have a LEGO store near you, it will brink down the brinklink prices by a small amount.

I'm guessing it'll just be random pieces of all the minifigs. Wouldn't it substantially lower the value of the rarer first series (for those who invested largely in them) if even one of the minifigs was made widely available? default_look.gif

agreed cant lego make a store on the england scotland border. I am not able to go to birmingham whenever i like

Interesting... I'll be going home for spring break, and there's a LEGO store only about an hour away, so I might end up making a trip up there to check this out. Not sure what parts would be useful for minifigures, of course... some people might use it to complete a collection of Series 1, but my brothers and I got a full collection as a Christmas gift, so I'm interested for the parts in particular.

I'm sure a lot of people would be trying to get those laser guns if not for the fact that they'll be a lot more common after the release of Alien Conquest. The laser beams themselves, if those are available, might still be desirable, but who knows what parts will be available? We'll have to check it out as a community before we can be sure.

Also, does anyone here remember what Build-A-Mini costs here in the US? It's one of the few LEGO store products you can't look up online (I don't think), since you can't exactly purchase something online that has to be done in-store.

I believe the cost is $10 for three figures, so that is why I don't think the Bricklink price will come down by too much as the price for a lot of the series figures via bricklink are in the $3-4 dollar range. Although it will help with some of the more valued figures.

Personally I'm very excited about this. I largely missed out on the first series, and personally, I'm glad Lego is doing this. No longer will people who missed these figures have to pay ridiculous prices to buy them.

So much for the whole; "Once this series is concluded, these molds will never be seen again."

Interesting.

This could mean that series' 2 through 5 could also eventually make their way into the Build-A-Mini bins. While it's not exactly a cost-effective way of gathering figs, it could be a great opportunity to grab hair pieces and other accessories which are for the most part, quite rare. Here's hoping for some Caveman beards and clubs.

Thank goodness that there's a LEGO store opening in Toronto around the same time  .

I may be wrong (glad to be proved so), but I highly doubt TLG will release every single piece from CMF Series 1 in the Build A Fig bins so that complete Series 1 CMF can be built. Most likely there will be headgear and accessories available, not torso, heads and legs.

I wouldn't mind getting more reddish brown caveman clubs (looks like dark brown caveman clubs are coming in Series 5) and caveman hair/beards. As previously noted, I would be excited about getting more ray-guns, but Alien Conquest is taking care of that.

also, you could construct all zombies/mexican wrestlers/dummies and still get a choice of hair and accessory on top. if you just want skater hair, or caveman hair, or the robot helmet, syringes or clown horns - you get figs that need no accessorizing and great accessories to boot.

I like this, I'm guessing that Series 2 will also be put into the Build A Fig but not later series, since it was Series 1 and 2 that had wonky distribution, whereas the later series have many more produced.

Did they ever say that? Cuz as has been pointed out, some of the molds have already been used again elsewhere.

Yes, they did. But- like you said- they obviously didn't stick with that statment. Which is fine by me- there's a lot of good molds there, it would be a shame for them all to go to waste.

This would be good news for me, as I missed series one completely, except for the fact that I live in Australia.

Oh well, buying stuff online in a few years for me it is...

Mmmh, the april store calendar for Germany's Lego stores isn't available yet, so I couldn't check, whether or not this is being an international thing. I got a tingle in my gut somehow, hearing that the US weren't exactly well stocked on S1, that this is going to be statewise exclusively...

Although I'd hope TLC pours some goodness into it's BAM-trays here in Europe. I'd love that!

Different note: Are US store calendars out that early every month?

Be well all!

Cutty

I have to wonder why they're doing this. Originally, wasn't the Build-a-'Fig meant to sell off pieces that they had extras of? The way they're going about this, announcing it in the calendars, doesn't make it sound like they're just getting rid of some extra S1 parts.

That being said, I'm all for this and I hope to be able to pick up some of the many S1 'figs I missed out on. :sweet:

Different note: Are US store calendars out that early every month?

Yeah. They're out around a month before, and by the time the month of the calendar actually comes, there are no more calendars left. So if you go to pick up a calendar, chances are if they have any it'll be for the next month.

Oh, once they do the same with series two, I have no doubt the Spartan's parts won't last just two days in the stores. :hmpf_bad:

Do they produce the series 1 parts new or are they using old non-sold parts?

Good to know that Series 1 is making another return to the stores. :sweet:

Meanwhile, this belongs to BSTF.

I just knew LEGO was going to some how find a way to relrealese all the figs. I just couldnt figure out how. Thumbs up LEGO  . You found the PERFECT exuse for rereleasing them.

I haven't seen the original place this claim was made, but I don't think LEGO's promise was ever that they'd stop using the molds entirely. That would imply even that future minifig series would not use the same molds, which would be just stupid. I'm pretty sure the promise, if anything, was that the elements (as in, mold, color, and print considered as one entity) would not be reused elsewhere. Yes, it seems that LEGO has gone back on their word on this, because the newscaster in Alien Conquest seems to use the same microphone as the Pop Star (black with a silver treatment on the top). But I think people are misinterpreting the original promise, and thus making a far bigger deal of LEGO's equivocating on this point than needs to be made.

Very true Aanchir, very true. I dont recall LEGO making any "promise" but there is no proof LEGO will not use those new molds (accsesorys, hats)in other themes. Doing that would discrase other Minifigures. I think that LEGO HAS to make an element be used at least more than once (Bionicle/HeroFactory being accesption for they do not use the stud system). For example- In Home One Calamari (Star Wars set), a new mold was made for the calamari dudes. The head was used again in Greviouses Starfighter. A peice using the stud system HAS to be used more than once. You think this may not be true like the Plo Koon head but even though it wa used for the same purposes(maybe even torso) it was used in the first Shuttle set or what, then in his own StarFighter. So this should be the same with LEGO Minifigures. We shall see more of these peices else where. As long as the element is used twise, it is allowed. Color/printing doesnt affect this deal in any way (Happened with Squid man head).

Staying on topic...

LEGO will add "elements" from Series 1 minifigures to the BAM. At no point does it say what those exact "elements" will be. At no point does it say that LEGO is rereleasing Series 1 minifigures either. Everyone needs to read what is written and not just make things up. This is exactly how rumors are spread.

I think it is most likely that the elements added will be the same as the ones in the CM1. Else they wouldn't use CM1 for the advertisement.

We do not know which actual elements, I doubt they will include all the new parts from CM1, but I bet that most of the new accessories will be available. As for torsos, heads and legs, that is unlikely - It would reduce the value of the CM1 figs as collectibles.

I wonder if TLG will do this for every series, wait a year since their release and then make some of the series' elements available as exclusives.

I hope this means the spaceman's gun is being mass produced and will be really easy to get at bl.
