But, if that's how the players want to play, there's nothing I can do about it.

Except for modkilling everyone who doesn't post at least 5 plays and/or mad theories per day.

Just giving an alternative way.

Good point Virgni.

I think the answer is quite simple. This is an all star game. In my first few games I didn't have any contact via pm. I had to ask everything in the daytime topic. Since this is all star there must be a lot of discussions going on via pm. But I have to admit it is a trend I've noticed too ever since werewolf...

Honestly, that is exactly what my notes say. Good call for sure. Which is why the games that mix up old and new will be the most entertaining for outsiders to read, I suppose.

I thought Werewolf had a fair amount of old and new. This one's just confusing as hell. Seems like Hogwarts to me. Items, not real roles. Unless I'm mistaken. In which case I'm even more confused as hell.

Zepher is right. This is a disturbing trend in the last couple of games. People said Werewolf's day threads were bad with having no info. This game barely has any posts in it. :sceptic: Not sure why that is. Nobody's performing any plays. Just a bunch of mafiawiki talk and then voting. :cry_sad: What happened to the old mafia days?

I too think that this is a little strange but we simply cannot blame anyone. The villagers want to help but don't want to bust themselves by opening there mouths and the scum are doing the same. Most people by this stage are in communication with each other privately and nobody can really come out with any information without dying the next night. :sceptic:

Mafia Games are starting to turn into PM's, they are centered around PMing and to be honest sometimes nobody has anything to share which makes it hard. Host's are also paying more attention to the behind the scenes work and so while the pictures are perfect and there are some really cool night actions, people just don't know what to do next and it takes a very special person to be able to figure out the scum. This is made especially hard if the investigator dies.

These items seem to take the form of roles in this game, whereas in Hogwarts the item's were not your role and just part of it. However something like an item based game will only work in Mafia in certain themed games which is why it is harder to implement. In my opinion a game with items is more successful because it is different and a part of the roles rather than the basic single roles.

What do you mean by that? If you're talking about voting for people who "seem scummy", then I think the answer also resides in the fact that this is an All-Star game. To avoid "playing in the discussion thread", I'll expand on this after the game has concluded. But if that's not what you mean, please do explain.

I also agree with badboy that it also has to do with PMing. EB mafia has grown a lot over the past few years, and its players have learned so much. The result is something transformed, so I don't think things will be the same again for EB mafia.

(Another thing is mafiawiki. I still haven't decided if it's a good thing or a bad thing for everyone to know all of the roles ever invented.)

I think I already clarified that I agree with badboy and I have a lot of theories about why the day threads are so dead and they've all mostly been confirmed but they can't be discussed until the game has concluded, of course. So there.

Everything's happening behind the scenes. That was, and is, the bulk of mafia games here. In the old days nobody knew what the hell to do, and accidently gave themselves away in the day threads, getting them killed. So they only talk to their trusted buddies.

And the new All-Stars/Mafia School thing is a huge impact.

I agree. Mafia School introduced fourteen people who will all (probably) be back to participate in games in the future, and some of them (me included) will be trying to get into as many as possible.

I don't see how you can feasibly make demands like that; it's not Hink's fault if the players aren't posting. In fact I've seen several players (who shall remain nameless) view the thread and not post. :sceptic:

Hinckley shares the same sentiments as me. Wasn't attacking him, or the players, just commenting the threads are slooowwwwww.

It's because we're boycotting Hinck for killing the Baker and his wife. How dare you

I chuckled. Rarely do at things over the internet. On a side note, where has Daxia been recently? I miss her. :cry_sad:

Even as a starter at these mafia games, I could very well relate to the 'PMing angle' of the game (and probably the most important lesson I've learned), since I spent most my time in Mafia School formulating strategies with my trusted allies privately. I understand the current 'deadness'/inactivity of the game thread since I've seen this on the later parts of the Mafia School (even how basic it is), especially when the Town have 'figured it out' already. I think the same is now happening with the Forest, it has come to a point where there are already a core group of Townies who trust each other and are just strategizing privately, and making public pronouncements might endanger their plans so they stick to PMs. That also goes the same for the Scums. It doesn't make for a good public entertainment, but that's what you get from having the best of the best mafia players playing together and against each other.

I just had a concept for a mafia game, but I think it will be a long time before I'm allowed to host again. Maybe I'll pass it along to someone else.

At any time hosts can choose to have a no PM game. It's their prerogative.

I tried to, in my game, restrict PMing.

I don't think it worked.

You have to be strict about it. Demand other players rat out offenders, with stated punishments. I think it's really hard to be strict in your first hosting duty. The second time, you're much less likely to tolerate rule breaks.

I think allowing PMs isn't even the core of the problem. The emphasis has shifted more and more away from the day thread towards night actions, which allows for easier coalition formation behind the scenes. Sure, the possibility of roles like framers, millers, and insane investigators somewhat counters this tendency, but still it could be another reason for the relatively uninformative day threads.

*stares some more at the day 9 thread*

I dont know its quite suspenseful on the viewers end. Not knowing really what's going on and then BAM! Convictions ahoy!

Without interfering the game, all I could said that PMs play an important pivotal point in this starry game of life especially when mistakes made are very costly at the expenses of the innocents.
