Hello folks,

A long time ago way back in 1984 my parents took my brother and I to the World Lego Show in Manchester, it was all about the beginning of life on earth as far as I can remember and we had a book with all the Dinosaur models in it, unfortunately I do not possess this book any more.

Any way my point is there was a display there quite large as far as I remember with all the classic space mini-figures and there was this little train thing going around a track this was in 1984 two years before the space monorail set was released in the U.K.

Was this the first monorail train or a prototype of it?

I'm not sure where I should of posted this Topic but I thought monorails are like trains so would come under this area.

I found this http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/jamesster/Space-Prototypes/42.bmp . not sure if its a MOC or prototype. It was listed on a separate page that described it as an early space prototype then I clicked on the link to brickshelf.

Here is the BS page that has the other 80's "prototypes" and some other more recent looking ships. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=448827 The older ones look like potential viable protos but, no definitive proof. Just that they look true to the era. Hope this helped. This got me curious

It's a confirmed prototype of "Seatron"... but it's not a prototype of the monorail system.

Hmm well thats all I could find without further details of what Gareth had seen in his book. I'd like to see this prototype

As the folder said, it's "From BrickJournal Issue 6". They explain a bit more there, but not much.

Thanks for the replies, that Sea Tron prototype did they ever release it or did it end up being the new 'Atlantis' sets?.

Looked on you tube just maybe thought it would of been on there, there is a small video of the World show in the Netherlands this shows a brief glimpse of the monorail thing, but compared to the Manchester World show it is less than half the size.

It under the name 'Lego World show 1984' I can't seem to be able to paste the link in this area, so just go on youtube and you should be able to see what I mean.

Sort of... in that it has more unique figs like the SeaTron would have had, but I think the time difference is too large to see it like that. Is this that video...?

Unfortunately it's a bit too blurry for me.

I can't identify any parts of the train/monorail/vehicel, nor the tracks they used.

Good spotting! Yeah, it does like like it could be one, but as you say it's too blurry to be sure.

Yes the space one that was it, in the Manchester display it was certainly a lot longer than the one in the video and it went all round the display and down onto the base of it (moon's surface) but still on a track, as far as I can remember .

But it is a bit too hard to see the track, it's a shame that there isn't more information from this period. It looks as if they more or less used the track from the Trains hence the rather large side to the track to disguise it and remove the use of the sleepers, still pretty cool space station hay .

Looks like they are using the old train track design. Would have loved to get some of the Seatron line. Some intriguing colour mixes.
