Forgive me for being such a noob, but is Maersk blue a new color, that's never been produced before? How much different is it than medium/sky blue?

Thanks for the minifig review, CopMike. Hopefully there is more to come?

It was used on the previous version of the Maersk Container Ship. I think it was the first time it was used, considering the name "Maersk Blue"

No, because it's also been in every other Maresk exclusive ever, going all the way back to 1980.

actually according to LEGO guru gary istok, the first maersk model was a 1959-60 glued retail display followed by the 1974 set #1650 maersk line container ship

True, but I believe that the Regina Maersk used regular Bright Blue bricks, not Maersk Blue (Pastel Blue in Lego parlance). The Maersk colour was introduced in 1974 in the set you mentioned. Then I have been told there was a slight change in the colour during the mid 2000s, but since I don't own any Maersk sets myself I can't tell how important this change was. It may still be possible to tell apart 'original' and modern Maersk Blue hard hats!

PS: Maersk or not, I hate stickers.

Finally someone voiced it: Me too, I hate them; after a couple of years they are - well - not so nice anymore, and if they are larger than 1 brick high they render building any frenzy rather tough ...

Thorsten

Well there are solutions for that, although Maersk blue is also problematic for a sticker printer (at least with the technique that we use). We print the Maersk stickers with plain Cyan and that looks nice enough we think.
