Posted March 8, 201113 yr Ok, I've been looking for Lego Star Trek creations, but I found none. I know, Star Wars are popular, but Star Trek is also a classic. I've also seen Doctor Who, but no Star Trek. Why?! Now, if I'm wrong, please direct me to the Star Trek topic(s). If not, this could be a topic where you could put your Star Trek creations. (I myself am working on the Delta Flyer)
March 8, 201113 yr Star Trek isn't very popular for LEGO Moccing. I believe it's mostly due to scale. The ST universe doesn't have a lot of small vehicles or environments that suit minifigs. If you don't build to minifig scale, even to "pretend" minifig scale (like the official Star Wars sets - Death Star playset) then it's not as relevant. You can build to any scale you see fit. Legostein http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showuser=1505 has a really awesome collection of microscale ST stuff, so you can look there. Otherwise, I have seen some ST stuff here, so I'd try searching again. Edited March 8, 201113 yr by TheWarden
March 8, 201113 yr Sadly, Star Wars seems to overshadow Star Trek. although for the Number Four Raffle, I worked in a Star Trek reference. http://mocpages.com/moc.php/254153 enjoy! I have ideas for some cool Star Trek MOCS, but my lack of funding is a hindrance.
March 8, 201113 yr I think one of thep principle problems with making ST MOCs is the fact that almost every federation ship and a lot of alien ships are just plain spindly. Any large scale Enterprise MOC would be a nightmare to support. It seems to be a bit more poplular with the mini builders, because it's a lot easier to capture those unstable shapes in a very tiny scale. Even I've made some little Enterprise models. But yeah, I think the main reason is that it would just be so difficult.
March 9, 201113 yr There are lots of creations on this site: www.brickcommander.com, located in the Micro Space section. Most of it has been done in CAD, with instructions provided to several models as well. He also does lots of Mechwarrior models Has anyone heard of this guy before? Is he a member on here?
March 13, 201113 yr It's very difficult to capture the shape of Star Trek ships because they all (or at least the Federation ones) are smooth and have very gentle slopes. This is not well suited for Lego. Stacking bricks doesn't capture the shape right, and going SNOT often captures the shape in one dimension but not the other. I think the best representation is a paneled look, which is very seldom done because it is hard to pull off and is often quite unstable. The USS Voyager seen here is probably the best representation of Star Trek ships in Lego that I've seen so far, and I hope more people go with a paneled approach in the future. Link
March 14, 201113 yr I know that I've seen some really cool large-scale Trek ships around the Web, including a D7 battle cruiser and some Romulan warbirds, but I never bothered to bookmark them since chances are slim that I'll ever have enough bricks for that kind of MOCing. These were not the mini-scale ships that are pretty popular, they looked to be at least a thousand pieces each. You don't see much Trek on Eurobricks, though. I guess it's mostly due to the popularity of the minifig scale and the fact that Trek doesn't have a lot of cool one-man fighter-sized ships. One of these days I'm gonna dismantle my Midi Star Destroyer and try to make a Midi Klingon battle cruiser. I love Klingon ships! Edited March 14, 201113 yr by Gryphon Ink
March 14, 201113 yr Star Trek is for Nerds. Says the man with a half dozen Master Replica Lightsabers on display in his office I think as everyone above has stated, its more about the stability and minifig scale that has stopped Star Trek from being popular in Lego. If you are succsessful I would love to see some MOC's. Good Luck and "May the force be with you" or if you prefer in your nerd terms "live long and prosper"
March 14, 201113 yr This is pretty weird as a first post, but here goes. :) I'm currently working on a Star Trek MOC: the USS Reliant from The Wrath of Khan. I can definitely confirm what's posted above regarding difficulties. Star Trek (at least Starfleet) ships use a lot of round shapes which are very hard to capture, especially at a small scale. I had to go up to SHIP size to get the saucer part as accurate as I wanted. My saucer is 88 studs wide. I have a technic frame and working to get different parts as light as possible, but I still have a nagging fear in the back of my mind that everything is going to collapse under its own weight when I put it all together. The lack of minifigures and small sized fighters definitely limit the things you can MOC. I doubt Star Wars would be as popular to MOC if there hadn't been official minifigures though. Don't get me wrong, it would still be popular, but the official sets make a huge difference.
March 14, 201113 yr I've been working on a minifigure scale USS Enterprise, link. Sometime in the future I want to rebuild it with more technic to hold it up so it won't smash apart. I've also seen this awesome Bird of prey moc in LDD on flickr. LegoGalactus
March 14, 201113 yr I'm a ST-fan. I used it as an inspiration for some of my hoverbikes, 'Marauder' for instance has similarities with the Borg and the Klingons. I'm still thinking about building a Runabout, but as of yet I never got to it.
March 15, 201113 yr Ok, I've been looking for Lego Star Trek creations, but I found none. ... Now, if I'm wrong, please direct me to the Star Trek topic(s). If you use the search feature (with keys words trek, vulcan, federation, etc.) you will be able to find some topics.
March 15, 201113 yr I prefer the STAR TREAK series more than Star wars too....really more great modela of ships and ideas for me
March 16, 201113 yr I'm actually in shock to find no Trek themed stuff. That's almost unbelievable. Isn't there a Lego-equivalent to Rule 34?
March 17, 201113 yr I'm actually in shock to find no Trek themed stuff. That's almost unbelievable. Isn't there a Lego-equivalent to Rule 34? There is actually ST-lego; http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=5614&st=0&p=87776&hl=klingon&fromsearch=1entry87776 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=34734&st=0&p=606131&hl=klingon&fromsearch=1entry606131 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=43524&st=0&p=764861&hl=klingon&fromsearch=1entry764861 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40525&st=0&p=731001&hl=klingon&fromsearch=1entry731001 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41038&hl=klingon&st=0 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=47865&st=0&p=840644&hl=klingon&fromsearch=1entry840644 You should all learn to use the 'search' function, it's not an violation of protocol...
March 18, 201113 yr Author Thank you all, especially -zenn, for the useful links. Now I got some new ideas. I actually used the search engine, however I was too lazy to do a more thorough search. I was also looking on some other pages (I tried a bit harder ) and I found an interesting runabout.
March 20, 201113 yr Yes i've been linked with Star Trek and Legos! This is also a thread of pics on Flik-R that has a lot of Star Trek lego creations: Link
March 31, 201113 yr Oh my, I built a Danube class runabout yeaaars ago on minifig scale. But as far as I remember it was not quite what you call quality work. Anyway, found some models in the web that I think have not been mentioned in this thread. Please correct me if I'm wrong: Slipperybrick.com Edited March 31, 201113 yr by Horry
February 7, 201213 yr Suprised there isn't much more Start Trek stuff scaled up to sizes like the large millenium Falcon. Even more suprised the Death Star II hasn't been turned into a Borg sphere! (just don't think there's the right colour green in my lego collection)!
