I'm out on this one. Tried, but I think there is some guy with infinite bucks there who just in some insane bid. I predict $310 final value. Sigh. Gyl

Gyl hm... some one who's willing to spend 231 dollars has got to be a guy with infinite bucks as well! :-P I did see a boxed one on ebay just the other day for a lot less... but you're after MISB? outch! you're just asking for it! :-P
Hobbes Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Some people say this is the best Lego castle ever made, although I personally don't agree (raised baseplate is the problem). I agree - with you, that is ;-) Although I think it might look better on a unraised baseplates. I personally like the three castles that IMHO defined Classic Castle: 6080, 6074, and 6073 (in this order). But then, that's just me... About the price: no comment... :-|

I know what you mean. I like it because my brother got the castle when we were kids (and he still has it) and it was the only one we grew up with. But with additional sets (like the blacksmith and the like) you could make quite a decent castle. As a stand-alone set it was kinda weird, that's true...

Getting pretty worn down, but my bank account is doing all right. Don't I deserve a reward? WIFE's REPLY: "Don't I deserve a reward for putting up with you? Don't the kids deserve to eat?" <excuse 2> I've bought almost no 2006 Lego this year. I would rather get this set than a Batcave and an ISD any time. WIFE's REPLY: "WTF is an ISD?. ANyway, the 2006 Armani lineup is quite good!" <excuse 3> It was late at night when I bid. I was tired. Not thinking clearly. I thought I was bidding $23.10 :-D WIFE's REPLY: "It's called 'bid retraction' darling. Look it up on eBay help. Then get some professsional help. Oh, and I just saw a really nice Armani purse on eBay...." MY RIPOSTE: "Hey, there's sleep disorder like that, when people do stuff they are not aware of. A man killed his wife a few years ago, and was acquitted on the basis that it was a sleep disorder, like sleep walking. Surely buying a classic MISB Lego set is not as bad as killing your wife?" I can't think of a castle set that is harder to find MISB than this one - maybe 6085/6080 if you look at bricklink, but I have seen both MISB on eBay a few times in the last year . Never seen 6086 before. And the box for 6086 is much nicer than for 6080 and 6085. This is the kind of Lego set that is bought for for MISB display only..... NOT as a parts back 8-
Jipay Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 that was close. I'm amazed by the people who are willing to pay this price for a toy.
natelite Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 that was close. I'm amazed by the people who are willing to pay this price for a toy. well, there are lots of american millionaires created by that tech bubble back in 1990-2000. those who got out early of course. those who hung around for a little too long got burned badly. lots of people pay top dollars for what is essentially a piece of crap. just check out some of the sotheby's auctions. :-P things like antique furniture, smelly old newspaper or comic books, etc. who knows? maybe in 50 years time, classic lego can be consider an art and may sell for more than $10,000? then the buyer would be known as a genious! like MJ and his purchase of beatle's song rights. he bought it for less than $40m, but the copyright is now priced at close to $400m.

Jipay Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 well I don't see the point. Lego bricks are lego bricks. Buying a 320$ misb set just for the pleasure of opening the box (or even worst, just to let the box closed) seems weird ! He could have built 2 for that price by using bricklink :-/ BUt that's his money :-D

If I could get this, it would sit in my home office, in all its MISB beauty, with that big beautiful picture shining like a beacon of glory. Every month or two I would dust it off, make sure it was not being shined upon by any direct sunlight, and maybe changed its position again. And yes, about 1-2 years from now it woudl go into the vault for a while. But I would know it was there! ANYONE GOTTA PROBLEM WID DAT! *sing* HUH?
