lightningtiger Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Something interesting I've noticed about this theme is that there is not a single set in the entire first wave that includes two or more of the main characters together. For a bunch of girls who are supposed to be such great friends, they don't seem to do things together at all. They either do things by themselves or with side characters, like the vet and waitress. Ah, but you miss the point....they are friend's....and you are mean't to buy them all and put it all together so friends stay altogether.....right ? Quote

lightningtiger Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I just thought of something, LDD....will future LDD upgrades include parts from Friend's ? Girls would want to use LDD too, be handy in the classroom....I wonder if teachers use LDD in class ? (But that's off topic though ) Quote
AndyC Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I just thought of something, LDD....will future LDD upgrades include parts from Friend's ? There's a parts upgrade due soon (to coincide with the removal of DbM Mode), hopefully some of the Friends parts, especially the figs, will find their way in then. Quote
Sarah Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I went to Toys R Us today to get the set with "Sarah" in it... I just had to have her even if it was the beauty salon. And it does have some fun things -- another hair, accessories to put in the hair, a haircut chair, and a purse! I really wanted a purse. They were SOLD OUT of the tree house! And well picked over on the other sets! I got one of only 2 hair salons It appears the little $6 sets do not have any people in them at all. Is this correct? I'm not thrilled with all the lipsticks. Any ideas of something else I can put in the window there instead? Quote
Vindicare Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) I just watched the summer wave video and saw a turquoise bike. Edited January 5, 2012 by Legocrazy81 Quote

Next, first question.....all sets have as far as I know at least one mini-doll in them....was it the ATV set ? Second question, You could choose to think outside of the box and change your beauty salon into something bigger.....a department store with a make-up counter in the front of it. Then getting hold of the new kitchenware sets in the cafe and house - you would have homewares and some black hand tools - a guy's tool department done....dam, I should give away all my ideas. If you want some inspiration check out some of my store creations for the last year or so....borrow what ideas you like 'Sarah'. Quote
slovakiasteph Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 It appears the little $6 sets do not have any people in them at all. Is this correct? Are you talking about sets like these: Andrea at the beach as $6 sets? From the pics, I was assuming they had a person in them... I read your introductory post earlier today... welcome! Quote

The sets Emma's Splash Pool and Stephanie's Outside Bakery do not have the separate box on the front saying what figures are inside, leading me to believe they may not have one! (Looking at the number of minidolls vs minifigs per price point, I think minidolls are more expensive for Lego to produce) I was already buying a set at the limits of my budget -- waiting until Jan 14th to get a smaller one when more of my Toys R Us rewards bucks become available to use! Tools! Good idea. I've got Olivia's workbench and can use those (I've got lots more Legos -- but they are all boxed up in deep storage in South Carolina; I'm in Texas. I was trying to decide which set to buy to make it work differently. IE what piece would fit in.) I want to get the house... but I'm not sure if that is going to happen :) Luckily you can get quite a few kitchenware stuff in smaller sets! Quote

Any ideas of something else I can put in the window there instead? People? No, most certainly not. But they do each include a mini-doll. Why else would they be pictured on the box. (If you want proof, there are reviews of those sets here in this forum.) Well, it is a beauty shop, so the number of things that can be displayed in the window are limited. Maybe you could display some of the other accessories like the hairbrushes, combs, hairdryer, sunglasses, and bows. If you don't have those, you could make perfume bottles out of translucent cones, cylinders, and studs to display there. dam, I should give away all my ideas. Yes, you should! Quote

Maybe in a small town so "One size fits all" I'm not sure the bows will fit. VERY interested to see if they do. If so, I'll have to see what I can collect for a friend who owns a bow-making business. Oky Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Because it has a big sign in the front that says so. Unless you're planning to remove the sign. Never mind, I forgot that there is already a bin for the combs/bows, and yeah, I don't think they would fit into the holes that the lipsticks are stuck in either. Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) Oh God. I'm going to the LEGO Store on Saturday to buy my first Friends sets. I wonder people will think about a grown man buying a stereotypically girly LEGO set. All I want is Medium Azure to make my Perry the Platypus! Edited January 5, 2012 by Perry the Platypus Quote
tiggerkiddo Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Ha, just buy them. They seemed pretty happy that the sets are selling pretty well already! At least this is what I've heard from the employees at my store. Quote

My son could care less. I do have about a hundred bucks from Christmas, so if I like one, I'll probably buy all of them. It would make for some good father-daughter bonding time. Echo Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) I got Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery, Olivia's Invention Workshop, and the Butterfly Beauty Shop today. Legoist Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Press release from today about LEGO Friends by TLG: and more : ... MORE DETAILS Visit www.LEGOFriends.com for an immersive brand experience including an avatar creator, mini-movies, games, video building tips, story extensions, contests, news, product details and an events calendar. I checked this site briefly and all I can say is... WOW. Seriously, I think TLG is doing a masterwork design of this theme, and the sets (which are good, as we can now see very clearly from the EB reviews) are only one part of it. There is so much conceptual work behind this theme, especially in the defining and designing the characters. I am not going to buy these sets for myself, since as an AFOL I'm interested in MOCing thus I mostly buy sets for parts (and I personally dislike pastel colours), but if my daughter wants these I'll be very happy to buy them for her. I sincerely hope the Friends theme succeeds beyond the best expectations, and wish it might even become permanent. Regarding the "feminist petitions"... check out the theme's website above and read the concept/decription of each of the 5 characters. That is in NO WAY sexist. The five girls are conceptualized as: - a scientist/engineer type - an animalist/veterinarian - a musician (presumably expanding to also actor later) - a particularly social type - a fashion lover The most "girly" of the bunch is the fashion lover except that she's not a dumb fashion-user or someone who just buys, but she is a fashion designer, someone who makes fashion. These first 5 models, in my humble opinion, are truly positive role models for girls. They are in no way dumb, they are in fact models of very active and potentially brilliant women, not passive sunbathers and shoppers! As such, I think the Lego Friends theme should be exposed by feminists as an example of a very much feminist kind of toy Quote
Sarah Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 (edited) Because it has a big sign in the front that says so. Unless you're planning to remove the sign. I'm pretty sure that is a sticker. And yeah, a sign is pretty easy to replace. Isn't that the point of Legos? Echo: OOOH! A ponytail. I LOVE it! Edited January 5, 2012 by Sarah Quote
SilvaShado Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I finally checked out the Friends in store and must say that I love the new pieces and colors. I love the butterfly, new flower molds and all the "tools." As much as I dislike the mini-dolls for not being compatible with normal minifigures, I'm sure I'll be buying these sets on sale for the parts. I am so happy with the new azure blue - especially with so many large plates in that color. I am 95% in love with these sets. If only they had been normal minifigures, I wouldn't be so torn about buying these. But that just saves me money. If I loved these completely, I'd want to buy one of each to keep as is and then buy extra copies for parts. This way, I can just focus on buying for parts. More money for Super Heroes and Ninjago. I believe the reason the small, $6 sets have no minifigure callout on the front of the box is just because the boxes are smaller and so they want to use the available space on the front to advertise the set itself, not the figures. They wouldn't include the figures on the box at all if they weren't included, at least not without a big and obvious "FIGURE NOT INCLUDED" disclaimer somewhere on the box. Besides, Eurobricks has had a Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery review, and it shows the set with figure, so I think that confirms there's no issue of TLG cutting corners in that price range. Quote

SpiderSpaceman Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Okay so I've got a question that's probably also been answered somewhere in here The heavily advertised "6 new colors" is confusing me. I've picked 3 small sets and that's got me 3 of the colors. The Aqua, the Dark Azure, and one of the lavenders. Then of course I've got the Medium Azure outta Alien Conquest and Spongebob. The others: the lighter lavender I think, and definitely the spring yellowish green - are these actually in anything? Because I'm getting pinks and purples and lots of fantastic colors that are relatively new to me, or welcome additions to meager collections. colors like the ol banana pudding yellow, the bright green, the magenta and the bright yellow orange. But I definitely can't find two lavenders or a trace of SYG (lots of lime though). So are these colors really around anywhere? Quote
