Blondie-Wan Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I've gotten Olivia's Invention Workshop and I love it, and I think the rest of the line is really nicely done as well; I intend to get a bunch of these sets (to the extent that my eternally starved wallet will allow, anyway). I hope this theme does really well for LEGO and brings huge numbers of fresh new enthusiasts to the hobby. Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Looking forward to your reviews! And yeah, I can't buy all the Friends sets no matter what so I'm trying to prioritize. And leave room for summer sets (though it seems to be a lot of boats and planes and fewer buildings!). And I want the Advent... but at $40-50 not sure THAT is going to happen! Time will tell. Nice! This year will be an expensive LEGO journey for me. Will be posting the review tomorrow! Quote
slovakiasteph Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Finally picked up the rest of the sets at the LEGO Store. It was a real pain in the wallet. I'm Friends crazy! I will be doing some reviews tomorrow, then on to building my Agent P! Yay, new review! It's been a little slow here lately. :) One thing I like about Friends is that there are several inexpensive sets I like; while I can pick up a $10 set while I'm grocery shopping, I can't do that with a $30 set. So, most fall within my price range. Quote

It will be on Olivia's Inventor set (forget the exact name). I will start with the smaller sets, then review the bigger sets. Quote
Sarah Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 The Inventor's Workshop is the first one I put together too! Is there a place to post sets in their native habitats even if they are not MOCs? In working with Olivia...she's smaller than I expected. Reminds me a lot of the dollhouse people when I was growing up. Or how I imagine they would feel in my hand if I handled them as a grownup anyway. Quote
Ricecracker Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Is there a place to post sets in their native habitats even if they are not MOCs? If it's a full review, please start a new topic in the Town forum. If it's just one or two pictures, feel free to post them in here. Quote
The_Box Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I'm not sure if people really noticed this or not but the placement of Friends sets in stores, like TRU and Target, is pretty ingenious. They are not in the actual Lego aisle but on an front/end cap on the aisle itself or have it's own display shelves, like the on pictured a few pages back. One of the managers at my TRU actually put the display near the entrance of the store so people notice the sets. Quote

In my Toys'R'Us, the sets were to the north left of the entrance, right before the clothes. Thankfully, some randomly placed LEGO sets led me there. Quote
Sid Sidious Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 No, the boombox in CM5 was just regular Lavender, which is lighter than Medium Lavender. Dark Azur (that is how all the official LEGO publications I've seen spell it, even though I prefer Azure since it's an actual word in the English language) did indeed appear in Alien Conquest and Spongebob Squarepants, so it's not brand-new to Friends, but I imagine it was probably designed for Friends initially and other themes just happened to use it first. I meant regular lavender, but I didn't have the catalog with me for reference. Quote
AndyC Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Having now got my hands on a few sets and had a bit of a play, I'm warming to the minidoll figures. There is a certain Lego-ness to them which is strangely appealing. I'd still have preferred minifigs, but I think these could well end up with at least as much of a cult following amongst AFOLs as Fabuland figs, possibly even more. Quote
Perry the Platypus Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Heard an interesting conversation over at the LEGO Store today while at work. "Mommy, I want the set with Stephanie in it!" "Honey, there are two sets with Stephanie in it. You shouldn't get two sets with the same figures in them." "Well, can I have all the sets?" "You only have 24 dollars on your gift card." "Well, I wan um'!" Edited January 8, 2012 by Perry the Platypus Quote

To diversify some. I don't really care much. Some of them are different variations of the same doll. Still, that little mother-daughter talk amused me. Quote

Sarah Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I'm too new to want to start a new topic so I'll just put this here. Where do promotional sets usually come out? Where should I be looking if I want the bagged Friends sets? Quote

Where should I be looking if I want the bagged Friends sets? Well, promotions, of course! LEGO will usually do special things, like spend $75 and get this! I'd expect the same for these. They might as well be raffles off at LEGO fan conventions or something. Quote
Aanchir Posted January 9, 2012 Posted January 9, 2012 I should also mention that the Friends "promotional" sets we've seen are all numbered 3####, and sets with those numbers often show up at various retailers, either in the checkout aisles or in the "seasonal" section of the store. Quote
peterab Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 (edited) I'm too new to want to start a new topic so I'll just put this here. Where do promotional sets usually come out? Where should I be looking if I want the bagged Friends sets? Promotional sets are marketed to companies and retailers who want to run a promotion with a LEGO set as an incentive. As such it varies widely from year to year, set to set and from region to region where they will be found. The most reliable way of getting them is from Bricklink, but because of their limited availability they command higher prices. Otherwise you just have to hope you'll be lucky and find them in your area. It may be that these sets are more widespread than other promotional sets since it's likely LEGO will be wanting to promote the Friends line themselves, but that's just guesswork. Corydoras Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 I've got an odd request... I'd like to see the Minifigures series III samurai with his armor removed, head replaced by a random female head and wearing the black ponytail hairpiece from 3187 Butterfly Beauty Shop. I'd be very grateful if someone could post a pic... Not sure if it fits here, but I guess it's ok since I'm particularly interested in the hairpiece. Quote

Corydoras Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Whoa, thanks a lot! How does the hairpiece sit on the head? Isn't it too high? Is it just me, or is there a weird gap between the forehead and the hair? Quote

Fugazi Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 As you may be aware of, the Lego Club has launched a new edition of its magazine, titled Lego Club Girls. Here are scans from the first issue -- there is some Friends specific material, but also features that can be found in the regular Lego Club magazine. Front page Welcome to Heartache Heartlake City Group photo A Friends Adventure! Forest Police Potter Sponge All-Girl Cool Creations! Games Creator And to cap it all, what else but the Lost Puppy game! All in all, a balanced content between 'regular' and Girl Lego themes. Was there a need for a separate Girl Magazine? Let's not open this can of worms! Quote
Darkdragon Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 That is actually pretty neat and a great idea. In the regular magazine it is usually boys (sometimes with mothers) in the photo section. It would have been really fun as a kid for me and my brother to get the same basic magazine in the mail each month but have it a little different like this. Quote
sharky Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 It's interesting that they show the Hogwarts Express and The Burrow yet I don't think either are available anymore at S@H. Quote
