Follows Closely Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) One question from me if you don't mind. :) You said both buildings are on their own 16x32 baseplate. Do they go together as 32x32 (Two 16 wide buildings), or 16x64 (Two normal length buildings but narrower)? Side by side with the townhouse on the left, pet shop on the right. They very much reminded me of the building style of BlueBard Edited March 17, 2011 by Follows Closely Quote
the-bricking-builder Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 thank you. how much minifigs are there, can you discripe them. is there something like a balcony or something else. does the painter have the same thing like in the GG. Quote
astra Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Slightly offtopic maybe, but this thread really reminds of the time when the first details where floating to the surface about the Grand Emporium. Some things are now known, sometimes remain a mystery... Everyone has its own ideas about how it looks like. Kind of nice actually Still I can't believe it will take until June before it's available... A sneak preview, so one store already has it, why should it take so long before it's released to the general public? Quote

I don't care for figs so I did not ever take notice. It is all about buildings for me, sorry. The painter was standing on the steps going up to the townhouse. As I mentioned the bay window is the centerpiece of the townhouse. The bottom of the bay had a clever combination of an upside down set of these. The pet shop has some dormers built with a few of these to form the roof line. The main focal point of the pet shop is a SNOT sign, similar to this. The sign is white with red letters, reading PETS. Unlike the GE and even the Fb, which I do like, but they seem a bit dull to me. These buildings are much more packed with detail and interesting colors. They seem more real to me than previous modular buildings. I suspect pictures to leak soon, as they are posted on LEGO intranet. Edited March 18, 2011 by Follows Closely Quote

The set was not displayed in the store, I got a back stage (storage room) pass Quote
CptMugwash Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Well, very interesting indeed, thanks for the info 'Follows Closely' June? Not too far away, I'm sure other new sets will keep me occupide till then Quote
TypoCorrecto Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Very nice details, can't wait for more detail up to the release of this set...It just shot to #1 on my wanted list... Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 No painter just uses a roller, a brush should be there as well (either there will be a collectable minifig of a house painter or a city set of a painters worktruck next year eh ?). Now if it's June release, they are leaving it a bit late for a release....if TLC keep draging there feet then they'll have less than two months till the actual date the item goes on sale. Could this be the set the Lego rep told me about saying it would be something I would like ? Anyway, guessing game will continue until pictures are finally release. Thank you 'Follows Closely' for the information you have provided so far, now a question from me - the painter does it come with a ladder, new bucket, (you say) roller and/or paint brush ? Does the dog look like the new police dog ? And could you see even a peep of interior in the town house and how many floors are in both buildings ? (This might be worth getting, as I'm planning a second and third floor rebuild of my Green Grocer...turning it in to a retail outlet of some description) Brick On ! Quote
ManitobaMoe Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 thanks for the info. i was really hoping for a bank but i am just so happy they are continuing Quote
wooootles Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I'm excited for this, very very excited. Moreso for the house than the pet shop. When I think of this as a 2-in-1 set, it's even better! Quote
Jasper Joppe Geers Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 -grin modus- Where's Grogall when you need 'm... Quote
David Thomsen Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I suspect pictures to leak soon, as they are posted on LEGO intranet. Oooooh... excellent. By the time I wake up tomorrow morning, I fully expect an abundance of pictures. Or maybe I'll just sit here all night and keep hitting refresh. Exciting? I love the idea of it being split into two buildings, and that the building are more CC/GG in appearance. This is sounding more exciting all the time. And just when I was beginning to wonder if I should stop collecting these to save money... Quote
thewatchman Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 hahah a painter? i bet we get like streaked colour as house is being painted, with painter on ladder. man this kit sounds amazing!! Quote

Unfortunately there are no streaked colors, which has a lot of potential. The painter is on the steps touching up the white trim around the door, no ladder, no bucket. prateek Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Awesome. I love the idea of two smaller houses. Quote

fred67 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Awesome. I love the idea of two smaller houses. Why? Why couldn't they just make two smaller sets? I always figured the point of modular was a big, detailed building for AFOLs. Quote
TheMagician Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Awesome. I love the idea of two smaller houses. I totally agree. First, as has been mentioned before, this makes the street look more natural with narrow and wide houses and not only huge buildings like the GE or FB. Secondly you can choose how you want to arrange them. I'm sure it'll look great as part of the whole modular series. Quote
David Thomsen Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Why? Why couldn't they just make two smaller sets? I always figured the point of modular was a big, detailed building for AFOLs. I'm wondering if the floors of the two buildings are interchangable. I don't think I've read anything to confirm this, but it seems logical. The problem with interchanging the floors of the Construction Site, the City Corner and the City House is that the buildings don't really co-ordinate that well, so it's usually best to leave them as they are. If the two buildings in 10218 are co-ordinated so that you can mix them up without creating a grotesque Frankenstein building, I think that's a good reason to have them together in one big set. Also, if part of the trim of one building remains unpainted... I wonder if there are extra bits so you can have the building fully painted if you want. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 It gets me scratching my head, if the painter is painting a tall building he has no ladder ? I don't think the floors will be interchangeable, but I could be wrong ! Man, do we need pictures or what ? Brick On ! Quote

I don't think I've read anything to confirm this, but it seems logical. The floors are not interchangeable, as the two buildings are very different. As I posted earlier, the townhouse has a bay window. The window spans all floors, including the first. ... Also, if part of the trim of one building remains unpainted... I wonder if there are extra bits so you can have the building fully painted if you want. I do not recall any unpainted trim. He is touching up the trim around the front door, no ladder needed. EDIT: typos as I posted from my phone. Edited March 18, 2011 by Follows Closely Quote
David Thomsen Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I do not recall any unpainted trim. He is touching up the trim around the front door, no ladder needed. Oh. I misunderstood... I don't paint houses very often so I confused 'touching up' with 'finishing up'. Quote
Zeya Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I don't know if anyone has mentioned, but as for the paintbrush, I would bet good money that it will be the same mold as the brush the new collectible minifigure artist uses: (Image from Whitefang's review.) This brush makes sense for painting trim, but it wouldn't make sense for painting a large flat surface such as a wall. You would use a wide brush or a roller for that. Quote

I wouldn't put too much money on that bet if I where you. It is defiantly a roller, not a brush. It may be brick build with one of these, but I think it is a new piece. EDIT: It may be this piece with something on the end. The roller looked smaller though. Edited March 18, 2011 by Follows Closely Quote
